I think for a normal kid thiswould be great. The way that it teaches you how to write is great with the fun pictures and arrows. My son has moderate to severe ADHD so some of the letters are very frustrating for him and he has cried a couple times, but he has powered through it. I highly recommend this book to teach your youngsters how to write.

This is a great tool to use with children who are just learning or struggle with learning to write. We used this with my daughter and now are using it with our two youngest boys. One of my sons has a problem with hand eye coordination and doesn't write very well, but with this book it looks like we will be able to turn that around. In just a few weeks we have noticed an improvement in his writing style as well as retention. With my other son, he is just learning to write and this is helping him catch on quicker than I Imagined. The books are made of good quality and can stand up to use by young children. This is a great tool!

My daughter is turning four and she can write independently most letters and numbers with some challenges at certain, particularly lower case, letters. I bought this book because I noticed that she writes letters however she wants, not following the proper order, even though the final product looks fine and maybe even much better than other kids in her class. I think she has good pen control already and knows how each letter is but just needs a system to learn the proper way to “write” letters instead of just “draw” letters. We have just used a few pages but I have seen improvements. I do think this book fits exactly this purpose. Letters are broken into groups based on how they are written, not just in alphabetical order, and it teaches how to write them properly in a rectangle space. I would imagine that you will need more practice space, maybe a separate lined book, if your kid just started learning writing. I would think at that stage kids need a lot more repetitive practicing than the space it provides.

In the beginning I was hesitant to use his book. However, we have now finished it and my 5 year olds handwriting and confidence has improved so much. We didn’t use the chalk board since she already knew most letters. That being said I have started teaching my 3 year old how to write some letters and the chalkboard has been helpfu!

My kindergartner loves this book! We’d done a lot of tracing practice before this, and the book really helps her form letters independently — withou tears! 😊 It teaches really brilliant tips like the “frog jump capitals” and the “magic c” that help children develop habits for writing certain common letter shapes. It smoothly transitions into writing words and small sentences too — and numbers. Handwriting was NOT coming easily for our little homeschool until we got this book, and it makes a huge difference!

My 6 year old son likes this workbook. He completed this workbook at his school, and was excited to learn how to write. The workbook has spaces for multiple tries on uppercase, lowercase letters along with numbers. The workbook he brought how showed us his improvement as he learned to write, so I decided to get another one for him to work on over the summer to help keep him going into the first grade. There wasn't any pictures of what the workbook actually looks like inside so I attached a few images so others might gauge what the Handwritting Without Tears method is.

We're using in homeschool PreK for my son. He knew all of his capital letters going in, but I needed a book to guide us through the lowercase letters and numbers. I really like the teaching method -- mastering one letter eases your child into others. We use handwriting paper (buy separately on Amazon) to do additional practice. Highly recommend for PreK or K!

Best handwriting program out there. As a mom of seven, that homeschools, I have tried a lot of things.

We use this book where I tutor (nationally known center). I bought it for my 5 year old granddaughter because I know how good it is. It starts with an activity to get children used to making lines they will later use in forming letters. The proper way to hold a pencil is also illustrated. Lessons give practice for each letter of the alphabet, both lower and upper case. Eventually, it adds phrases, sentences, punctuation marks; and finishes with numbers. I highly recommend.

This is definitely a brand I can stand by! Over the summer, my girls used their products to improve their handwriting and skills and it truly did the trick. My oldest gets compliments on how great her handwriting is and how far she has come with her writing! My youngest has used the book before this one to start and come to find out they use it in her school too!
