such good little grills
such good little grills, love it. So well sealed that you can shut the vents and reuse charcoal about 4 times with this.

It's a Weber! How can you go wrong?
At a cost of around $35 for a grill that will pretty much last a lifetime, there's not much negative to say. Easy to assemble, materials and coating are top notch. I use it as a companion to my pellet smoker for searing and cooking up burgers , sausage, and dogs. It's a great portable grill. The only negative is I wouldn't mind having a detachable tray to catch spent coal ashes. Highly recommended, never the less. A must-have for anyone that needs a portable, reliable, well built charcoal grill.

Get it
I put this together yesterday and it took less than 10 minutes-- super light-weight, great polish, compact and ready for summer! I live in an apartment so I was looking for something smaller that I can take outside and sit in the grass/ grill or something at the beach, it really is perfect! I'd recommend :)

The 1980s Mercedes-Benz of grills...stout, straightforward and unkillable
I bought this to take on camping trips and for quick charcoal-grilled goodness at home. It's a pretty straightforward grill, there's nothing much to it. Didn't even think to review something like a table top charcoal grill. However, after being abused and neglected yet still being ready than ever for the next camping season, I just had to write a short commendation on this little guy. You see, I didn't take the time to clean it and worse yet, it was left behind OUT IN THE ELEMENTS on the back 40 of a friend's property for over eight months...rain, mud, snow, freezing temperatures. I thought, no big deal, I had lost it out there and was going to buy another one, yet my buddy said he found it laying on its side not far from the cabin. Not expecting good results, I took it home, cleaned it up and it was gleaming! Not a speck of rust on the porcelain kettle at all. Not a single imperfection on the finish. No oxidation, nothing. All the oxidized guck came right off. Looked like new. The grate, coated in guck from all the summer and fall grilling, shined right up. Not a speck of rust on that either. Being that I didn't treat this poor guy too well, I didn't expect it to clean up so well after being left up in the woods for several months and never cleaned before that point. Obviously Weber uses higher quality materials and finishes. That is why you can find their older grills everywhere loooong after the cheap department store specials have rusted away or fallen apart, not unlike the way my $700 gas grill did in less than three seasons (which was not a Weber). That grill, on the other hand, was babied and stowed away in my garage, yet that couldn't last a full two years without a rusted firebox. Way before the rust appeared, I noticed that the finish on the firebox was like a thin glaze. It would literally make audible cracking sounds when flexed and when fasteners were tightened during assembly. Black flecks confirmed this. Hmmm...wonder why it was so quick to rust? The Weber kettle is an icon, sort of like how a KitchenAid stand mixer is an icon. Both are stout, sturdy and straightforward pieces that last and last. Since I am left with no choice but to kick my expensive yet crappy gas grill to the curb (no longer under warranty), I just bought the bigger version of this, the original full size kettle. Didn't want to drop hundreds of dollars on another gas grill since most of them have rusting problems. Sure, charcoal isn't convenient as turning a knob and it sure is smoky but the taste is better and a Weber will last forever with its heavy duty finish and better quality materials and workmanship.

Near perfect small grill
Just what I was looking for-small enough to be easily portable but still be able to grill a whole chicken or a rack of ribs. I have done both with excellent results. Sturdy construction, ease of cleaning and economical use of charcoal added benefits. Highly recommended.

Much hotter cooking if you remove the top!
I've had this great grill for about 3 years now.... works perfect! WAY better than a cheaper imitation grill. The one thing that was bugging me about it is that I couldn't keep the coals super hot.... now I know to open both vents all the way... and if it is still not enough heat or the heat is dying... just take off the top and it will get super hot with an open top air flow! Hope this helps someone.

Perfect for hurricane season!
With Hurricane Florence approaching we needed a backup cooking method so I searched and liked the reviews for this small charcoal grill- it arrived just in time and we’ve been using it every day since, several times a day. It was easy to put together (even in the dark with a flashlight) and took less than 10 minutes. It is sturdy enough to boil a medium sized pot of water on it and large enough to cook hot dogs around the edge while the macaroni cooked. Everything is operational and I was surprised that it wasn’t blown away at some points. We even used it with heavy cast iron skillets to make biscuits and cook sausage and eggs. I think this is the perfect size for a small family, camping, tailgating, or for when you don’t have power (thanks, Hurricane Florence). I’m highly satisfied and I hope it lasts a long time. Will update if it doesn’t.

Small + High Quality
Love the small size of this grill. The price point is excellent, and would work perfect on the back porch of an apartment. I use it as a table top grill in my backyard and couldn't be happier.

and it was great. When I took a look at it this ...
I bought a Smokey Joe the summer after I moved into my house, and that was 1999. I used that little grill through the summer of 2015, and it was great. When I took a look at it this spring, I knew it was time for a new SJ, but I was concerned that it wouldn't be like the original. Ordered it from Amazon, free shipping, here in two days, ten minutes to put it together, and it is actually better than my original. It's a little bigger, the grates are more substantial, and it seems sturdier. If you don't want to fire up your big grill to cook a pound of burgers and dogs, this is perfect. If you don't have a lot of room to barbecue, this is perfect. And, if you want the flavor of barbecue without the expense of a propane grill, well, you get the idea.

You can’t go wrong with this one!
I have to be honest I had my doubts but it’s amazing. Perfect size it’s not that tall (and I wasn’t expecting it to be) but it’s perfect! I’m a huge fan of Baseball and getting to the stadium a few hours and be able to cook with this Weber grill it’s just amazing!
