- Ultra Sharp Made in USA blades: Microplane uses photo-etched technology to make ultra sharp grating blades right here in America! BPA free plastic handle.
- Zest Citrus: The blade is designed with a specific tooth set that takes the flavorful rind directly off the citrus fruit, while leaving behind the bitter white pith. Zest adds flavor to vinaigrettes, stir fries, salads, and baked goods!
- Grate Cheese: Grate parmesan into fluffy mounds that melt quickly and look beautiful when treating yourself of family to rustic bowls of pasta. Sprinkle fresh parmesan over eggs, salads, or any dish for a burst of flavor.
- Surgical Grade Stainless Steel: this material stays rust-free and maintains sharpness over time. True stainless steel is magnetic, so this item can be hung on your magnetic knife strip.
- Dishwasher Safe: The tool is easy to clean, simply rinse immediately after use. Use a kitchen brush on the underside of the blade to clean out tough to reach particles. The zester/grater can also be placed in the dishwasher.

Every kitchen needs this tool- makes life so much simpler.
Every kitchen should have one of these- misplaced my other one so replaced it and still works like a dream. I use mine to grate nutmeg and for all citrus zesting. Do not recommend automatic dishwashing- I believe the dishwasher will dull the blades. Just a quick rinse and wipe backwards on the blades and let it dry- I also keep the blade guard on mine when not it use so I do not rasp my hands while reaching for another tool. I use it at least 5 times a week and expect it to last forever.

Awesome for heels and calluses. Everything else is for sissies.
Awesome for heels. I'm not joking. This thing has never seen the inside of my kitchen. I keep it in the bathroom. It saves my heels from calluses and dry skin during summer. I've tried everything for my poor war torn feet and this is the only thing that works. I live in a city, and easily walk a good couple of cement laden miles every day. I teach, so I'm on my feet a good 6-8 hours every day. Pedegg? Ha. That's for sissies. Pumice stone? Child's play. This is the real deal.

An absolute must for zesting, no more difficult aternate methods. Would recommend
This works so much better than using a potato or fruit peeler to zest lemon. My wife and I use Blue Aprons meal service where they deliver the different items you need for making recipes they select each week. Just about once a week we have to zest something, usually a lemon or a lime. We have tried many different methods with the tools we had at home already but everything was a pain. This was perfect and she was smiling like a kid on their birthday when she used it. It also comes with a nice reusable plastic cover to protecting the cutting part of the tool when its in the drawer. I would highly recommend buying this if you need to zest something, just save the trouble or trying other methods. We have not used it for grating as we have another tool we use for that but I am confident it would work as well. The other tool just has a nice storage bin.

No other fine grater should ever be made or bought
I use my microplane at least once a day. It is insanely sharp, cleans in seconds, very durable (can take a lot of force against it--see update below), and is THE tool for zesting and grating anything at a pretty fine level. These last for years, I've never seen them bent unless someone tried to do so, and they are always very even in their grating. One note: don't use this for any cheese unless its very cold and you want it to become string-thin. If at all warm, the cheese will basically reclump since it has been grated so fine and had so much friction applied to it from the fine microplane. UPDATE 1/28/14 I've now had my microplane for a year and a half, and the blade is just as sharp as when I first received it. Really--it is incredibly well made. The handle has also not given out at all but is still firmly attached to the blade and has excellent grip. I use it 5 times a week on average I would say. The only thing that gave out was the plastic cover. A few days I found a crack on one side which quickly ran down the entirety of it, splitting it in two. I only ever handwash the grater and cover, so I was a little disappointed that it broke. But I called microplane customer service (very short hold time, very nice representatives) and with no questions asked had a replacement sent out free of any charge within minutes. I didn't expect any less from microplane, but great to know that they take care of their customers :) My one minor gripe with this zester that has come out over the past 18 months of use: the end doesn't have any kind of rubber cap, so if you use the microplane by leaning the end against a cutting board and holding it at a 35 or 45 degree angle to it, it wont slip (the two end corners are so sharp that they hold onto the wood), but it does etch little cuts/grooves into the board that are deeper than I like. Of course cutting boards are meant for being used and not artworks, but still--I don't want them to get roughed up from grating of all things. This is really a minor problem, and if you grate by pressing the grater horizontally above whatever bowl you're grating into, you won't have this problem (though in that case it can slip back and forth if it is a metal or glass bowl, and if its plastic or wood you may experience the same cutting into the material from the edges that I described from the end.) All in all, this brings my experience of the microplane down to 4.8 stars--something like that does not change how delightfully effective the blade is, and how easy it is to clean (always be hand!).

Buy this on it's own or in tandem with the Chef'n FreshForce Citrus Juicer.
So easy to use, to clean. A must have. Your lemon peels will never again go to waste because it was a bother to drag out the standard grater, or peeling and chopping. With this microplane, not only is it easy to judge just how much zest to use, the zest itself is more flavorful due to the proper consistency. Of course, it's also useful for things like nutmeg, etc. The foods you are preparing will surely be enhanced with one or two easy swipes of lemon (for zest). A great compliment to the other must have: Chef'n FreshForce Citrus Juicer (also available via Amazon). ... I've purchased this combo as a gift for fellow cooks and they've loved it.

It Really IS All That!
For years, I've wondered why anyone bought a zester. I mean, I've got a box grater for zesting citrus, so why store another single-purpose utensil? So when I had to make a recipe that called for zest in terms of 1/2 a cup, and knowing how long it takes me to grate up 1 Tb on my box grater, I decided to take the plunge. And boy oh BOY, am I ever glad I did! Comparing a box grater to this is like comparing a golf cart to a Ferrari! This is super sharp, so no need to even apply pressure. Just rake it over the surface of the lemon/orange/lime/grapefruit and it removes fine, tiny strips. Knowing that, if you need finer zest, adding an additional few pulses in your food processor will do the trick. I have a small processor that I use exclusively for spices, and it worked perfectly. Since the recipe was sweet, I added a couple Tb of the sugar called for in the recipe in the processor, which kept the zest from sticking to the blades. Worked like a charm. The cutters on this puppy are super sharp, and for that reason, it comes with a guard in which to store it in your gadget drawer to protect fingers from cuts. Clean up is a breeze if you keep an old, sanitized toothbrush by your sink. I had a quarter of a lemon that I used for juice, and thought as I too often do, "Darn! I wish I had zested that lemon first before I cut it." Not wanting to let it go to waste, however, I took the zester to that puny, squeezed quarter. The microplane worked like magic! Try doing THAT with your box grater. I was able to retrieve the zest in a ziplock baggie, which I stored in the fridge for later use. Don't know what I've done for the last 50 years of cooking without this gadget. I've wasted a lot of time and incurred skinned knuckles, that's what.

Satisfied, results were as expected.
I bought this in February 2015 and forgot about it. I finally used it today and I am satisfied. I have huge graters (you know those with four sides) and I'm not happy with the bulkiness of those items. This thin microplane doesn't take up much needed kitchen workspace and is sharp enough to do the job. It doesn't strain your hand while trying to hold it in place when zesting, unlike those huge ones. Tried it with lemon and onions. You just need a quick swipe with a thin spatula/ bread knife to take the zest out of this gadget and into your bowl.

A few minutes = a pile of fluffy zest!
After many years of making lemon bars, this is by FAR the best tool I've ever used for the job. I love that it seems to shave instead of tear the rind. It was nearly effortless getting the zest off of 8 lemons - I mean it was almost fun! Of course that means it's sharp. I did manage to scuff my hand lightly. No damage, but if I had to use harder pressure because the tool wasn't efficient I would've likely hurt myself. I checked for the patent number and found it on the blade before opening the package. It's the real thing. Amazing zester/grater! Would make a great gift for anyone who loves making things in the kitchen from scratch. I don't know why it took me so long.. I'll never use another one.

You won't regret this purchase
One of the best kitchen tools I ever purchased. I used to try to use a grater to "zest" citrus fruits. I would grate my fingers and knuckles during the process and I wouldn't get much zest as so much of it got stuck in the grater. I held off buying a zester forever thinking "well just how often do I zest anyway." After one particularly painful knuckle grating/"zesting" experience, I got on Amazon and bought the microplane zester. What the heck took me so long?? I love this thing so much I try to incorporate more zesting into my cooking. Seriously it's like "how can I incorporate zest into this dish?" It's amazing! Easy to use, easy to clean. Lots of zest, even from small lemons. And the microplane design makes it "safe" to use... And you don't get any pith (that bitter white part). Oh microplane zester I'm sorry I resisted you for so long.

Great for Parmesan and zest.
Great for Parmesan and zest. I use this a lot, after a few years it is still rust free, unlike my other grater. I use a lot of lemon zest, this works well for that; the trick is to rub the lemon diagonally across the surface so you don't get long strands of zest. This allows you to get just the zest without any of the bitter pith. Cleaning just requires running it under the faucet, maybe a wipe with a sponge.
