I love this-- and so does my 5 year old grandson. In playing around with it I was afraid it was going to be too complicated for him to figure out how to make it work, but he was amazing with it after just a few days...including "patting" it down with the bucket to level off his load in the dump truck! Lots of fun, and the fact that he can move it from dirt pile to dirt pile makes it even better. Friends have one that is cemented into the sand box and can just swivel around the box, this one works better for our situation because his piles are in various places on the farm, depending on what is going on. He used it to help his dad level out a load of gravel screenings to prepare the approach to a new barn door. Very cool..this picture shows him "practicing" in the little swimming pool--it even holds water!

Lots of fun for my kids! Excellent quality, Do not be tempted to buy something cheaper

Buy this one above the others! METAL! STURDY!! The seat (only plastic part) is that really ridiculous thick plastic that playgrounds are made of. We all sit on this digger. It gets dragged all around the yard by my kids. It gets extremely rough treatment and it withstands everything. I was planning on buying the other brands I've seen on here but THANKFULLY I chose this one. Definitely go with this one.

Kid loves it! Easy assembly. Only downside is that it's mobile so the holes in the yard aren't limited to the radius of the arm

Great fun for a 4 year old who immediately announced "I have my own digger! I can get hired at a construction site". A little difficult to use where soil is hard, but a great sturdy toy. Bought this rather than a wheeled version so his digging area would be limited, but easy enough to move (by him) a few feet. Sturdy toy, good seat.

My little farmer boys are super tough on everything they touch. I've had this at least a year now, and it's stayed out in the sandbox the entire time. My children (up to about age 8) still play on it and it's never broken and still works. They aren't exactly gentle. I wish we'd had one sooner.

>Got this as a birthday present for my truck and construction equipment obsessed three year old son. HE LOVED IT. >Solid metal (seat is plastic though). A bit awkward to assemble but only because you have one section where all the elements come together and it takes some dang amazing coordination to hold all the washers and nuts in place while you thread the bolt through it. Otherwise it takes no time to put together. >Weirdly there were no holes in the bottom of the seat to put the screws through to secure to the overall contraption, so have something handy that will help you carve holes through hard plastic. >If you have hardwood floors, don't let your kid use this on them. My son opened this gift at his party inside and we put it together (inside), and he started going to town...on the hardwoods. Luckily we also have a carpet and moved it quickly to that and all was well until we could take it outside the next day. In the meantime, he scooped up toys ;) >He's scooped toys, gravel, mud, loose sand, leaves, you name it. Since it's solid metal, it boils down to the ability and strength of the kid as to what they can scoop up - the scoop itself can dig through just about anything. >Didn't take him too long to figure it out either. I would say about 20 minutes of floundering and he had the moves down. He's also able to drag it to wherever he wants to dig since it's not too heavy, though it is awkward to pick up as the arm moves easily. >Absolutely worth every penny and I've already sent this link to several friends who thought it was the coolest thing ever and wanted it for their kids. Buy it already.

It took a while to figure out how to assemble the arm, and it doesn't seem like it's really designed the best in that respect, but it does work, and it's very sturdy. I wouldn't be surprised if it can hold a good bit more than the weight limit, but of course it's best to not test that. I'm sure they left ample headroom just to be safe. I only put one of the four screws in the seat, which is more than enough to hold it on (almost don't need any) and will make it easier to take off and put on if needed for putting in the car. I didn't get the wheels, since they're more expensive, not really necessary, and I think some reviews said they weren't very good, and while one of my nephews would still try to move it around, picking it up and walking while standing over it, it's probably for the best, since it kept him relatively stationary, instead of having him roll it all over the place, swinging the arm around and breaking stuff. Just be sure to keep the cardboard on the digger until you take it outside, otherwise you're likely to get damaged floors and/or furniture.

I don't write reviews often but we have had this for 2 days and my boys (3 and 5) woke up at 6:30am, ate breakfast and got dressed and hustled outside on a gloomy rainy mid February morning in Seattle to play with this. They normally fight over whose turn it is, but instead they have been taking turns and playing like civil humans for an hour already. Best toy ever, bought a second one already so they don't have to share because there's only so long siblings can go before someone throws down.

Replace the screw and bolt with a locking bolt so it won't loosen and fall off. After doing that, this has been the best toy I've ever bought! We put it in our wagon and take it to the neighborhood park to dig in the wood chips. Then we bring it home and dig in the sand box! We've had it for 3 months now and my son plays with it everyday.
