Great set. You get more than what you are paying for.
Excellent offering. Typical Xacto-quality handles, which means good quality, and the wooden box has been great. The tools and blades are set in a flimsy plastic holder which sucks, but given that this kind of thing is for careful precision work, the normal slow patience one practices when using these kinds of things makes it kinda irrelevant. You get the blades you see in the picture, but only one of each kind...which is actually plenty for the price of this set and the quality. I haven't tried, but I think you could fit at least one more blade of each type in each of the storage slots. Maybe two more, IDK. I've used mine extensively since I bought it and haven't regretted it. Had and used Xacto products for most of my life and will continue to do so based on the quality I still see.

Great All-in-One Starter kit!
Great X-acto knife kit! Extra blade holder is magnetic which holds them securely. All around needs a little bit of love before you first use it. The wooden box is made of partical board with wood laminate on the outsides. It's pretty difficult to get a box made out of solid wood these days for the price you pay. To keep it looking great for years to come, I've applied boiled linseed oil to the outside and inside. The plastic molds which hold al the components and a little flimsy so I suggest they should modified. On my my plastic molds, I've filled the top completely with resin and let it dry/harden. (Note: make sure resin is plastic safe) On the bottom mold I've first filled it with a silicon, so that the tools can be removed and placed back. Then I filled with with resin as well. After everything was dry/hardened, I glued in the plastic molds permanently. The magnetic strip in the top tray, if it should ever come off, can be easily glued back. That is if it no longer sticks to the plastic. After completing my modifications to the box, it now has a descent weight and should last a lifetime! *Pros - Solid construction - Multiple blades - Ease-of-use *Cons - Partical board box - Flimsy plastic molds - Blade holders must have the correct blade to sit in the bottom tray

Great value and great box
This is a fantastic little set for the price! The two metal tools are well-made and have a good weight in the hand. X-ACTO is practically a household name, and they make quality blades and tools. However, the large "C" handle has a very cheap feeling red plastic handle. I was a little disappointed when I picked it up. However, it's not like this is a hammer that will be put to a lot of physical abuse. Even though it feels a bit shoddy, it seems to put together well. It should hold up, and the lightness can of course be a benefit. The wide variety of blades are great. I didn't realize it before ordering, but rather than being held into the plastic molded part of the case by friction they're held by a magnetic strip! This is a good thing, because the plastic into which they're set is pretty flimsy. It's a step above what you'd get in a tray of cookies, but it's by no means robust. In fact, as I'm writing this review I opened the box to give it another look. The magnetic strip had fallen out of the plastic carrier (bringing the blades with it). It'll take a couple of dabs of glue to set it back in there. So no big deal, but it's just an unfortunate bit of shoddiness. I gladly would have spent a couple of bucks more for better plastic inserts. The case itself is marvelous on an item at this price point. It's very lightweight, but sturdy. The metal latch has a satisfying closing action, and it's perfectly set where it will open and close effortlessly, but there's no play at all in the lid when it's secured. I saw another review that stated their box was MDF with a vaneer. Mine is plywood and has finger jointed corners on both the base and lid. While the pictures on here show the box to be a caramel (?) color with perhaps a finish on it, my box is a very light birch and is unfinished. The pictures also show a brass-colored latchset, whereas mine looks like nickel. I don't mind the discrepancies because I prefer the appearance of the one I received. But your mileage may vary of course. Overall this is a 5-star item. It's a great value, despite my gripe with the cheap plastics. I've seen X-ACTO "A" handle knives sans extra blades being sold in stores for a third the cost of this kit. You can't beat 3 handles, 13 blades, and a sweet box for just over sixteen bucks (at this time).

Fantastic little set
I see alot of negative reviews about this on a few points, namely that the box is poorly constructed, the blades are oily/damaged on arrival, they dont stay in the box or arrive all over the box. The box itself is nicely constructed in my opinion at least, it is laminated, very smooth and pleasant to look at. The blades do come with a slight layer of oil, this is to protect the blades and keep them from rusting. And its a good thing, it took like 1 minute to get a paper towel and wipe down all of the blades really quick. The blades stay in their little plastic housings within the box, the black housings themselves come wrapped in heatshrink so theyre not going anywhere, and when you remove the heatshrink you can shake the housing with the blades in it all you want, the bottom ones are clipped in by pressure, and the top ones are held down by a decently strong magnet. The plastic housings themselves also fit very snugly inside the box and the top one does not drop down or move at all when the box is closed.

Very nice way to keep and manage blades
I love it. The magnet in the box that retains the blades would not stay, and needed to be re-adhered to the box, but the quality of the product and organization are very nice. I wish I could take a half star off for the poorly affixed magnet, but I gave five stars because having all the blades and handles neatly organized is helpful and appreciated. No more rummaging around in a drawer of loose blades risking cuts from elusive strips of sharpened steel. Nicely done, Xacto.

Good quality and assortment.
So this product is what I would expect from the X-ACTO brand. Good quality, sharp blades and sturdy tools. The box is real wood and tough. It does help in keeping everything in a safe place. My only complaint and it's a small one but when you open the case, on the lid there is a magnetic strip that holds all the extra blades. Well that strip fell off the first day and needed to be glued back on. Not a huge deal but it got frustrating opening it and every time the blades are just scattered around the box. Overall a great product and I would purchase again.

Cricuit & Silhouette must have
If you just got a Cricuit or Silhouette and have never used one. There are weeding tools galore. Here you go. Here’s your set. You don’t need a million expensive hooks that they sell. You learn as you go what you need and don’t. So before you break the bank. Let me save you some money. If you already have bought the weeding tool set. Still buy this. Thank me later. You’ll go back and fourth and then you’ll end up using this.

Excellent set!
This is truly an excellent set and a great value but several of the blades are not marked at all. Also, the back of the package (not the box, but the package the whole thing comes in) is just a tiny bit misleading. Let me see if I can explain this. On the back, there is an illustration explaining what each blade and handle does. As you can see in the product photo, there is a blade attached to each handle. On the back, it tells you what blades those are on each handle (which are #1, #2 and #5 blades). To the right of that, there is a list of the additional blades in the top portion of the product photo. There it lists the #2 blade again, but not #1 nor #5. At first glance, this makes you think that there are two #2 blades to be found, but instead there are two #11 blades, which it doesn't mention at all. That's a minor thing, but for newbs may be slightly confusing. One thing I wish it had, was a "map" insert of what each blade is. You know, kind of like what a box of Valentine's Day chocolates has, that describes what each chocolate is. If the blade and knife holders had been white, it would have been easy to simply write it somewhere, but it's black. Only paint can be used on black. I ended up writing the blade number on the wood on the inside of the box, along the edge, just below each blade and to the left of the knives. I used a fine point Sharpie. The box is fantastic! It's wood and quite durable looking. It has a closure that is way tight. It took me a few tries to get it to close fully. That bad boy is NOT going to open accidentally... EVER. lol! All in all I'm very pleased with it and expect them to last for many years.

Excellent service. Quick ship. Excellent product.
Not as good a quality as the one I remember having as a younger man. Still a necessity for the home model builder. Or as my wife steals them for her scrap booking as she says the set works well and she needs her own set. Guess we will be buying another one soon. Only reason I deducted a point is because I remember the handles having a heavier knurl to them and having a better balance. Otherwise you can't go wrong with this set.

Xacto X5282 Basic Knife Set
PERFECT for crafts, including the MOST DELICATE fabrics. Better than a seam ripper for satins and laces. The box it comes in makes it safe and handy to store, too. I love this very handy product and will use it for years to come. I have continued to use this and the knives hold up very, very well and are perfect for close work, like ripping seams in very delicate fabrics where a seam ripper would probably wreck it. I am happy with this versatile set of tools, packaged in its nice wooden box with a secure clasp.
