I'm pretty impressed with this thing. I bought it for one purpose, so can only speak to that. When we established our property to build our house in a rural area, we had to have water lines and cable lines threaded through some trees. That was between 6 & 10 years ago. When we did it, I was forward thinking (I thought) and marked the lines with Survey Marking Whiskers. But over time, dirt, grass, leaves, mulch, and pine straw buried them, and any that were not buried suffered from the ultraviolet sunlight making the plastic tops of the whiskers brittle, and thus the tops disintegrated. Gradually, I found, I could no longer tell where my lines were. Today - after one or two little practice sessions, I went out with the Bounty Hunter TK4 and found ALL of my markers. I was hoping it would (and apparently did) find the large nail that was remaining below the surface, 4 to 10" below the surface. There is no way I could have located those lines without a metal detector. Other detectors may have found them; may have found them better. All I can say is - this did exactly what I needed it to do and so paid for itself in a few hours use! Anything else I do with it is gravy. Hopefully it will be useful in other ways and fun as well. In searching the last leg of water lines I got a ping where I was surprised to find one. So I switched to discrimination mode ... Got a LOW pitched buzz. Manual says ... nickel or GOLD! I'll dig in that place later. Who knows - it might MORE than pay for itself! LOL! Also, FYI, I found the one survey iron rod for a property corner that was close to where I was working that was hammered beneath ground level in a ditch. (I knew roughly where it was). A few more technical items: It is lightweight; easy to handle. It is easy to operate; the manual is clear. I'm a first time metal detector user & I feel fairly competent with it already for basic use. Pretty easy to put together, though I'm a little concerned about, as some mentioned, the lower stem to search coil intersection is plastic, with a knurled knob. If the parts are easily replaceable, no problem. Otherwise, might be a weak link that sinks the entire ship. I'm not a treasure hunter (yet) so this may not contain all the stuff you guys would be interested in, but I had read some questions that asked about the kind of interests I had with locating survey rods, etc., so decided to do a review from this perspective.

Absolutely love this device. I bought it as a gift for my father to use while he was in a beach house in Florida for the winter. While visiting we used it quite a bit and actually found a lot of metal (see pic). Overall nothing of value, but it was a first time ever user, so finding anything was fun, plus there is definitely a learning curve. Pros -This device is very easy to use -Found metal at least 18" below the surface in sand so it seems accurate -Very light weight and adjustable -Not expensive and fairly well made for the price -Battery is still working after many hours of use Cons -Requires a few simple tweaks to avoid false positives First Time User Experience It took a couple of trips walking the beach over a few hours to get used to how it works and how to optimally configure and use it. First trip out we had a lot of false positives and it was slightly frustrating. But after some time it became easier and easier to find things. We did not find anything of value but did find many metal items as small as a pull tab ring off a can buried 4" in sand. Tips -If you accidentally touch the ground while sweeping back and forth, even very lightly, it will often emit a false positive tone. You will get the feel of when this happens. -If sand or dirt gets on the top of metal detector end piece that you sweep over the ground it will often give a lot more false positives. -If you are just starting out, don't expect to find gold and especially don't configure it for just gold/silver. You'll get frustrated fast. -If you are a first timer i'd recommend the following settings: 1 - Set sensitivity (left side knob) to the 3 o'clock position. Any higher and false positives are common. Lower you may miss things. 2 - Set the toggle switch on the right to center (all metal) so that you can learn how to use it. 3 - Set the disc/notch switch to the 12 o'clock position.

Nice metal detector, Lightweight, handle extends to fit your size, can easily set the angle of the coil, and the set up is easy and fast. I purchased this for my first metal detector just to start out and i have to say i like it a lot....it was very easy to put together and set up ..I used it the other day for the first time at a local park and i found several coins and i had fun doing it. . For the price you cant beat what you get...If i really get into it i will upgrade but i will always keep this one....going to pick up some earphones for it and i'm good to go ! Do yourself a favor , if your thinking about it just pull the trigger you won't regret it this is a very nice metal detector. Packaging could have been better but that has nothing to do with the performance of the machine.

Worked like a charm to find lost wedding ring $1000. value so paid for itself. Was in tall thick St Augustine, knew general area and I tried all the tricks flashlight at night, cutting the grass real low and using a fine rake but no luck. After wasting many hours decided to get a metal detector ( its happened before and was lost for over a year even after renting a detector the dog found it and had it with her outside toys) she is a tracking dog so makes sense that she smelled me on it. Please go online and learn how to use it because I was about to give up until I went on Youtube and took some "lessons" found it in less than 5 minutes after "learning proper technique". Look forward to going treasure hunting now.

Only last weekend, my necklace broke while I was out clearing a raw lot in Okeechobee and I lost a diamond pendant that belonged to my great grandma. I searched for hours and hours, but couldn’t find it anywhere. I was absolutely sick over it and decided to order this metal detector to help me try and find it. Honestly, I thought it was gone forever, but after searching for only two hours (on the recommended jewelry settings in the manual), I found my pendant under a pile of leaves and twigs. Obviously, I recommend this product 150% and can’t thank Bounty Hunter enough. I also included pics of my search area and where I ended up finding it. I wish I could give this metal detector 20 stars, because that’s what it deserves.

This metal detector I purchased is a direct result of watching "The Curse of Oak Island." I think I might have caught treasure fever from watching that show, I suspect I amore susceptible to Oak Island Treasure Fever as compared to other peoples sine I was born and raised in gorgeous Nova Scotia. Anyways, we live in the desert where there is oodles of space that could be hiding treasures.....what's under that rock? That sand? That pile of dead cactus? I DID NOT KNOW, because alas I had no treasure stick with which to find treasures. And by treasures I mean metallic objects of great historical and significant value...like bottle caps, shell casings and nails. Rusty nails...yeah. MY rusty nails now. I seriously love this unit, for the price it seems a bit like magic...being able to wave it around over the ground and find hidden metal...I don't actually need to find ancient coins from treasure hiding peoples, just finding a nickel or a QUARTER woo to the hooo, is plenty satisfying. Plus there's the whole being out in sunshine, fresh air, beautiful views plus a bit of exercise. I did find a cool old shell casing which led me down a fascinating internet rabbit hole where I discovered a whole world of people who collect shell casings, who knew? I do now. I attached some pics of the stuff I found, perhaps not worth a lot (yet) but it was quite exciting each time the metal detector gave me the beep that meant metal. It's very easy to use. I think it would make a unique gift for people too. I am keeping this in mind for future gifts for people we know.

Awesome metal detector! I have found over 50 coins with this metal detector in my first 3 days including a 1911 barber dime. It Works as described, very good quality metal detector for the price.I also recommend going to you tube under tracker 4 to see a demenstation on how to use it I recieved my order in just 3 days Thanks Amazon..

Got it just a couple of hours ago, read the instructions, inserted batteries and went outside to indiscriminately find anything available in the yard. Worked great! Found aluminum, nails, a staple, head of an old artist's brush, drink can tab, a penny, a lot line marker.... I look forward to fine-tuning it for specific searches. For anyone worried about how long it is, it came in 3 sections (coil, coil stem, upper handle with attached control box) in a 28.25" box. Well-packaged for safe shipping.

Had it about a week. I live at the beach and have only used it in sand so far. Works well. Found about $1 in change, a rifle bullet, matchbox cars, lighters, flashlights, bolts and of course...1700 beer bottle caps. Discriminator works well. Still learning the settings. I like to use the “all metals” setting and then discriminate once I find metal. Not sure about claims that it detects up to 8 inches. At least not in sand. As far as I can tell, the depth range seems to be about 4 or 5 inches unless the object is really large , such as a soda can. Doesn’t work well in wet sand. Continuously goes off the closer you are to water. But hey, for beginners, at this price , it does the job. You won’t be disappointed. Just practice using the discriminator settings by following the instructions. Or you’ll be digging up nails and pop tabs all day. 👍👍👍

Used this to find my property corners, successfully. When I was trying to find one of the corners I found a screw from 1990's that was about 4 inches in the ground (at first I thought it was a power line interference (power line does affect it a bit). Then when I started to get frustrated I trusted that it would work when I needed it to and I adjusted the sensitivities and the next metal object that I found was the property corner. Later found a bunch of roofing nails and other construction debris that contractors through out in the yard. Works as advertised. Is light weight... seems to be made cheap, but the components work great. Would recommend. My only con is that: The connector for headphones is the larger 3.5mm? jack...(Its not the standard plug that goes into cell phones and ipads or kindles etc). You may need to buy an adapter unless you just happen to have the larger interface for your audio products.
