we have given this as a birthday gift several times; kids always love it, I see them using the instruments years later. we get a good laugh at the look of horror on the parents' faces when they realize their child has been given a noise making toy without batteries so they can't turn it off! Best music set around

This is, by far, my favorite musical instrument set on the market. My son received one for his 1st birthday (yes, under the recommended age). The only instrument that I didn't let him use was the triangle but now that he's turned 2 I've let him use it and he loves it!! The instruments are well constructed and quite durable. They have survived a year of being thrown over stairs, banging on the floor and chewed on. I would totally recommend this set to anyone. In fact, I purchased this for a friend's child.

Excellent and Durable Instruments

Bought thus for my 3yo... he loved it immediately and started handing instruments to everybody at pur Christmas party and then we all sang and played our instruments for him so he could learn what they did. Then he traded them all for us and we would sing and play some more. He LOVED it. What I love about this set is they instruments are so well made...made of real metal and wood and very durable. The triangle has a lovely sound....it is an honest to goodness REAL triangle instrument, so I know we will have this set of instruments in our family for years to come!

Great Product

Great set for toddlers! We've had this for about 2 months now and each instrument is still in great condition and still makes pretty musical sounds. My toddler plays with it almost everyday. They are the perfect size for little hands-it is easy for my little one to hold AND play on her own. My only complaint is the wooden crate it comes in has little pieces of wood that stick out and have pierced my skin a couple of times so be careful. Other than that, the actual instruments are made of great sturdy quality, (they don't feel cheap) and they are great fun and easy to use/play. Measurements: Tambourine-6' diameter, Maracas, Clacker, & Tone Block-8" length, Cymbals-3.25" diameter, Triangle stick-6"length, Triangle 6"x5.5"

FABULOUS quality for the price especially!

Got these for my toddler granddaughter. She has lots of toys, and I am so happy to report that these are her all-time favorite toys! She walks around with at least one of them in her hands all the time. And we also got her a new trike that has a “truck” which she constantly puts these instruments in. Although it does bother her a little that the triangle doesn’t quite fit. It’s hilarious to watch her try to make it do it. And when she has the triangle in her hand, she always has the wind and the other hand – – she knows they go together! Got these for my toddler granddaughter. Can't go wrong with this band in a box - foster a love of music early!!

Love, love, love this. Music is something every child should have the chance to make, and the variety of instruments in this band in a box lets toddlers have so much fun. My grandson was playing the triangle and single jingle bells and what a wonderful memory was made as he explored his budding talent! For those who think "oh no, another noise maker" and "send it to grandma", the instruments really do no make super loud tones. There are many other kids toys with audio that are far more obnoxious! This was great money spent.

Highly recommended set! A set (or more) would be wonderful ...

We gave this set to our 2-year old for Christmas, and she loves them. She plays them most while I and her siblings play piano. Her older siblings (ages 6, 8, 10), play with percussion instruments almost as much as she does. While the racket can grate on adult nerves after awhile, the learning that develops with their use is worth the exercise in patience. Our toddler refers to the instruments as "my music", and her ability to keep a steady rhythm has grown exponentially. Highly recommended set! A set (or more) would be wonderful for a preschool or day care setting, with all the scientifically researched and documented benefits of music education. As a private music instructor myself, I am thrilled with these instruments.

My one year old loves these! She is just starting to understand how to use them properly. The Moroccans are her favorite part of the entire bundle! It is for ages 3 and up but the only piece I had to put up from her was the metal rod used with the triangle. I was afraid she would fall with it while it was in her mouth. I do supervise her while she plays with these as well. I would not give them to a younger child and leave them unattended with them.

Quality and Fun Gift Idea

My daughter suggested a "music set" as a Christmas gift idea for my 2 1/2 year old grandson. This set caught my eye immediately due to the colorful variety of instruments and handy storage tray. The fact that it is a Melissa and Doug product sealed the deal. The gift has been a huge hit with both my 2 1/2 year old grandson and his 5 year old brother ;-}. My daughter is VERY happy and pleased with their reaction as well and the quality of this gift.

Music lessons for babies @ home solved

This is a fabulous toy for a child that loves music and to be part of it. Our 12 month old has been using it for the last three months. With supervision. Why pay for music classes for babies when this is just as good & for fraction of cost? My only complaint is that the castanets don't make a proper sound.
