Okay. I'm a teacher and this is the first year I've ever had a pencil sharpener last all year. The secret? Tell students that colored pencils may not be sharpened in this sharpener. I secretly did it myself but only 10 at a time and always finishing with s regular pencil, in the hopes it would "clean" the blades. Important: I've had this sharpener in years past, and it has quit mid-year, even after cautioning children about colored pencil sharpening rules, etc.

It was back to school time about a month ago and with two kids starting 1st grade, it was a busy time to shop and prepare school supplies. Other than labeling, one other task of significance was sharpening 40+ pencils (regular #2 lead pencils and in some cases color pencils). In the past, I'd use the electric pencil sharpener in the office, but with less and less pencil use in the digital age, even the one we had in the office was a weak and low volume one that started choking after the 4th pencil in a row. Did some research and really wanted to get one with the helical cutter (just like the ones in the old heavy duty manual hand crank ones) that would last a while. Decided on this model and it is awesome. Shredded through the 40+ pencils in no time at all. The only issue is that we don't have a place to put this full time, as it is not small, so we store it until we need to sharpen more than a few pencils.

I never thought I could fall in love with a pencil sharpener, but I have... First of all, it's quite a bit larger than I was expecting and has a nice amount of weight to it. The sharpener has a good size container for shavings. I like that you can turn the dial for different size pencils. Also, it can plug into the wall instead of only using batteries, which I love! It works very, very quickly and smoothly and makes a very sharp tip. I wasn't sure that I wanted to spend much on a pencil sharpener, but as soon as I tried this thing out I realized that the investment was so worth it! I will be using this daily so if I have any issues(so far none) I will write about it. I draw and color with many different types of pencils so this has truly made my whole year! Once you go electric, you never go back! For the longest time I have been sharpening pencils with a manual pencil sharpener, FOR YEARS!!! I sharpened 15 pencils in the time it takes me to sharpen ONE pencil manually... I love it!

Several years ago, I'd purchased a Bostitch sharpener for $25 at a local office supply store. It was seldom used so I expected it to last for many years. Then, I started sharpening pencils for my Operation Christmas Child shoe boxes. And it just wasn't up to the task at all. I eventually managed to slowly sharpen over 125 pencils over several days before that sharpener would barely function at all. That's when I ordered the X-ACTO for just about the same price. It has effortlessly sharpened about 250 more pencils, and I'd say it took maybe 4 seconds/pencil. It's a great pencil sharpener, and it's much larger than my old one. It has suction cups on the bottom that keep it from moving as you sharpen. The only downside is that it shreds part of the coating on decorative pencils. Fortunately, my Bostitch could still shave off the shreds, even though it can no longer sharpen a new pencil. The X-ACTO did fine on the regular, yellow pencils. Check out the pix to see how it handled the regular pencil, how it handled decorative pencils, and how the decorative pencils looked after trimming with the old sharpener.

My daughter is in 1st grade and I've asked her teacher how I can help make her life easier, and she requested that I sharpen some pencils for her, as its time consuming and she hates doing it. I happily agreed, and was shocked when the first gallon sized zip lock bag of 100 pencils came home. My electric pencil sharpener couldn't cut it, so I borrowed one from a friend who is a former teacher. A few weeks later, another bag of pencils came home with my daughter. I bought an electric pencil sharpener at Target. It was garbage... didn't even make it through the first 20. I knew I wanted something that plugged in rather than took batteries, and I needed it to have a very large holder for the shavings, so I wasn't dumping constantly. I asked around, looked at reviews, and chose this one - and I am so glad I did! It sharpens each pencil perfectly, and virgin pencils only take a few seconds. The blades retract and stop sharpening once the pencil is sharp, so you're not wasting pencils or having to remove it to see if its done. The bin is plenty large enough to do very large batches at a time, and so far I've had no issues with overheating, which was a concern. The different sized pencil holes came in handy as I was sharpening normal sized pencils as well as a few of the thicker beginner ticonderoga pencils. A nice added bonus that I didn't realize until I was ready to move it - is that it was stuck to my kitchen counter! It has several suction cups on the bottom of it so it will stay wherever you put it rather than sliding all around, which I thought was a nice touch. This may be overkill if you only sharpen pencils occasionally -- but for me, doing 100 or more in one sitting every few weeks -- this is a dream!

I brought the X-Acto School Pro Heavy Duty Electric Pencil Sharpener to go in my 3rd grade classroom. This is not the first pencil sharpener I have bought this year. In fact, it is the third! The first two broke with in a few weeks from the wear and tear of 40 9-year-olds jabbing at them all day long. But this one has proven its worth! Occasionally a plastic pencil wrapping gets caught around part of the inner mechanics of the sharpener, but it is easy to remove, and starts right back up. The pencil shavings reservoir is rather large. I can go all day without emptying it. And with 40 kids and a countless number of pencils coming in and out of my room all day, that's impressive. It even has a safety feature that stops the sharpener from working if the pencil shavings reservoir is not in place or not in at all. This has been a great asset. Little fingers like to explore and investigate. I have had to change out the rotating mechanics once, but i believe this was because a student stuck the metal end of a pencil into it. Even so, changing the parts out were quick, easy, and relatively inexpensive. I probably could have contacted the company, since there is a warranty, but I didn't remember about it until later.

Since I started homeschooling 6 years ago, I have bought a lot of things. School supplies, books, curriculum, art stuffs... and this. THIS is the best thing I've ever bought. I have bought electric pencil sharpeners, battery operated sharpeners, and the multitude of small ones that get lost in a day or two... But this is hands down the best sharpener we've ever had. It even has a small triangular hole that fits the ticonderoga triangular pencils. Best. Ever. Go buy it. Thank me later.

Your quest for the perfect pencil sharpener is over! Buy this pencil sharpener and you too can be the envy of your team. And before you ask, yes, it's better than that "quiet" manual one. As a seventh grade math teacher this pencil sharpener gets used all the time. I've had it for a few months now and it still going strong. I did have a conversation with all of my students about how gentle they should be with it, and I originally band the sharpening of colored pencils as a precautionary measure, but it also seems to take the colored pencils like a champ! All my colleagues are very impressed and want one for themselves.

I don't even know where to begin as I tell you about this fantastic sharpener. I wasn't expecting too terribly much, as the price is substantially lower than many other sharpeners that claim to be heavy duty. But I read the reviews which seemed overwhelmingly positive and took a chance. Oh my! It's really incredible! I use it for my favorite graphite pencil, the Dixon Ticonderoga, a variety of colored pencils including Crayola, Prismacolor, Irojiten and Hero, and some specialty things like Faber-Castell Art Grip Aquarelle and Derwent Inktense. Each one of these pencils sharpened beautifully to a long, sharp point. I read some reviews that complained about this- but there is a fix for that. As you can see, there is a dial for different sized pencil barrels. I like the standard one- there is a faint circle on the dial to show you which that is, and I get a fairly long point. But if you use the setting to the left, a bit smaller, the point will be slightly shorter. The fit seems a little tight, but in this sharpener, you don't twirl or turn the pencil. You just slide it in and the sharpeners do all the work. There are some suction cups on the bottom but they don't stick to my laminate shelf, so I just make sure there's something behind the sharpener to keep it from moving and all I have to do is insert the pencil and wait for it to stop. The sharpener knows when to stop, and won't oversharpen! I have sharpened over 150 pencils with no trouble, no breakage. The worse that has happened is that a tiny bit of the sharp tip might break off on the first use, but that is the worst and once that happens there has been no more trouble. And I almost forgot to tell you the other amazing thing- even when sharpening a brand-new pencil, you lose only a speck of length. That's right. No more will you lose a quarter to half-inch every time you sharpen your pencil. I'm not sure how it works but it seems that it knows just where the tip is and sharpens to that point, if that makes any sense. Oh, one small tip (no pun intended), if you sharpen a lot of colored pencils, especially oil-based ones, you are going to want to sharpen some graphite pencils in between to keep the blades clean. Anyway, I hope you love this sharpener as much as I do. I'm tempted to buy another just to tuck away, but my last electric sharpener lasted over 25 years, and I'm no spring chicken, if you get my point.

Okay, I am a teacher on a budget and I am so upset I spent $10 more on my School Smart electric pencil sharpener two years ago. This sharpener is AMAZING! And cheaper?! The sound is a LOT quieter and the shavings bin is a lot bigger and STURDIER!! It sharpens the pencils to a point without eating them. Im in love with this sharpener! Like others have said, this pencil sharpener is ideal for bulk sharpening pencils. I sharpen about 40 a day and it works great! I'm in love with it!
