Perfect for a birthday present!

My girls love to use their imaginations. I love toys that help them do so. The Melissa & Doug Birthday Party Cake definitely did not disappoint. They love sitting down at their play table while serving up cake and having a birthday party with their dolls. This set is great quality and looks brand new even though we've had it now for a few months. I love buying this as a gift when it's my kids' friend's birthday. It's always a big hit, and I get thank you's from the parents too. I'd highly recommend this product. It's well worth it. My girls are 3 and 6, so it's for a wide range in ages too!

Loved by every kid that comes over

This is a great product. We bought this along with the Kid Kraft real looking play kitchen and some plastic play food. This is the item my kids (and every single neighbor kid that comes over) gravitates toward. Some kids like the little candy and decoration pieces, some like to serve it up with the pie server, and some like to play with the candles and sing happy birthday to every one in the room. Regardless, it is one of the few toys that doesn't get a rotation of being stored in the closet for a while because it gets played with daily.

Enduring toy that fosters imaginative play

My daughter is on the cusp of her fourth birthday. She received this set when she turned two. I have been surprised at how much she has enjoyed this and how much use she got out of it. It went largely ignored the first year or so she had it, then one day she got it out and has played with it nearly every day sense. My daughter loves to decorate the cake; serve pieces to me, my husband, and her friends; she even seems perfectly enamored with putting it all back together for storage! I have seen a lot of imaginative play from her with this toy. Of course she puts on little birthday parties with it, but she has also come up with some really innovative uses for the various pieces. I would say that based on my daughter's experience, 3-4 is the perfect age for this set. I have given it as a gift and will continue to give it in the future. It's just that fun and adorable!

My daughter plays with this everyday!!!

When I ordered this I thought she might enjoy it since it was a birthday gift for her 3rd bday. To my surprise, she plays with this toy 1st out of the tons of other toys she has. She constantly wants to make me "cake". It's safe to say this is her favorite toy by a mile! A lot of the smaller pieces have been lost in the couch from time to time and some of the paint has worn off those smaller pieces, but geez, this little girl plays with this cake everyday!! The only negative might be that the corners of this wood box are pretty sharp, the paint is wearing and the velcro is getting debris in it. However, when it's played with everyday, wear is to be expected. When this one wears out, I will purchase her another one. Who knew for $15 she would be so happy with this toy! My daughter LOVES this!

This Toy Takes the Cake!

It really does! The kids (I do childcare) love cutting the cake, putting it back together, decorating it with the durable wood circles (velcro-backed), and--their favorite--adding candles to blow out. Every day is my birthday with this toy as at least one child serves it to meach each day! Melissa & Doug...I can't say we haven't loved every toy we've purchased from their line, and we have at least 15. This one is no exception. For the low price we paid for it (during Amazon's M&D sale last year), I'm amazed at what you get (everything but the kitchen sink) and how many hours of dramatic play our boys and childcare kids have gotten out of it, all without even the slightest hint of wear on the durable wood toys. This set makes a wonderful gift, too, especially for a child's birthday. If you want play food for your child's kitchen, don't waste money on the cheap plastic stuff that likely contains PVC and BPA. Instead, invest in this (amazingly) inexpensive set and I promise your kids (and you) will be delighted by it for years to come.

Great product.

Daughter absolutely loves it, she loves to customize the cake with all the accessories. Melissa and Doug have always had great quality products for a good price and this is no exception. We have quite a few melissa and doug products (around 30) and i have never had a complaint on any of them.

High quality and easy for toddlers to use

I bought this for my two and a half year old twin nieces. They love it and so do I! I bought birthday plates from a dollar store to go with this and they have had a ball. Wood is so much better for sets like this than plastic. The items are durable, colorful, and arrived quickly. I do wish there were a snap-on lid for the storage box to help keep pieces from getting lost.

great for pretend play

I got this for my 3 year old grand daughter who is very into birthdays- singing happy birthday, blowing out candles, cake, etc. She loves this toy and plays with it a lot. She loves decorating the cake, candles , cutting and serving cake. And it all goes back in the storage box when she is done. Great for pretend play.

Grandkids love them

We have grandkids ages 5 to 8 years old, both boys and girls. They love to play with these sets. They all have the high tech toys but when they come to our house they want to play with these. It's great to see them using their imagination and making up stories to go with what they are playing with. The quality is great and very durable.

Too cute love it

So cute. 5yo and 18mo were always playing birthday party so this was perfect. Others mentioned the candles not standing up, but if you put them on real good they do. 5yo has no issues getting them to stand up. The cute decorations are a little small for my 18mo since he puts everything in his mouth but it’s easy to keep them up and away
