I hate drilling holes in my boat, so I do not anymore since discovering 3M 5200. Keeping in mind that it is intended to bond permanently, I make sure that I have my mounting locations right the first time. I've used 5200 to mount King Starboard backing plates for my VHF antenna, RADAR dome, autopilot pump, and all of the electronic modules that controls each of them. I have not had to drill a single hole to attach any of these Starboard backing plates. This quick curing 5200 is very east to work with initially, but set up in about 24 hours. I've always been able to use the backing plates after allowing this product to cure over night. It helps on cooler days to place a bit of heat on the bonding surfaces, which speeds the curing process. I typically use a small space heater or heat lamp to warm these surfaces to around 90℉ (do not use if there are explosive fumes present).

My go-to marine adhesive! Great for everything. I 5200 marine plexi to my boat for almost everything, then screw into that, so I don't put holes in my boat! I'll dap it into the corners if I think I may want to remove it someday, so I can slide a razor in there, Otherwise, apply more heavily, and it's on there virtually forever it seems. Can get tacky fast, so I always use goggles!!! If a little stream hits your eye, you're in TROUBLE! Thanks God I was wearing goggles myself! This is true with any adhesive though, but this does get stringy/semi-hard fast. Store the opened tube with the cap on tight, in a ziplock bag, and in a cool place, and it may last a week or so, but not too much longer, so it's god to have all your 5200 projects lined-up and hit them all at once. This also eases prep and donning protective wear. Wear gloves also! This is IMPOSSIBLE To get off, except with rubbing alcohol--that's the ticket! for clean-up of excess and on you. A MUST to have a bottle and rag ready. Touchy for delicate stuff, but great. I keep a caulking tube of it and plexi and wood ready for sailing emergencies.

Man is this stuff great! I've used it to repair leaky boots, waders, decoys and glue new soles to some old waders. Best stuff I've ever used, by far. Not sure why other reviewers complain about only being able to use it immediately after opening. I've used mine on multiple jobs, over months, and replacing the cap securely seems to do the trick.

Bought this adhesive because I wanted to mount my depthfinder sonar on the back of my aluminum skiff without drilling holes. I purchased a small piece of starboard, sanded and washed the aluminum area where it would be attached, and used a hand saw to make shallow 1/4" deep score marks on the piece of starboard. Then liberally applied the 3m 5220 to the scored side of the starboard and firmly pressed to the prepped transom. While holding in place, I wiped excess adhesive with damp sponge and used masking tape to hold in place overnight. Removed the tape the next day. The good thing about using staboard is i can move or replace the sonar bracket if i need to without drilling holes in the transom. Its been about two years with weekly use in saltwater and it hasn't budged, solid as a rock. In fact, I just did the same thing on my gheenoe transom. Great adhesive!

3m 5200 sealants have been the “go to” adhesive/sealants for marine applications for decades. They now make several variations to the original “blue” tube general purpose 5200. You can not go wrong with this stuff........even below the waterline.

This is the best marine sealer/adhesive. Despite what the instructions say, it does cure under water. I use this stuff on all my through hull fittings and just about everywhere else I need to seal out water. It does contain a solvent to help it adhere, so be careful using it on certain plastics. Fiberglass is fine, but some plastic port hole covers will get damaged by this stuff and prematurely fail. Usually the part you buy will say to use only silicone if the plastic will be damaged.

Tenatious, tough, and waterproof. Great stuff! Worked well on a steel, rubber, plastic component glue prpject. Fyi, rubber should be roughed up a little.

I gave this a chance because of the excellent reviews. The project is an aged and leaky aluminum boat. It worked great. There's still a tiny bit of water getting in, but I won't blame that on 5220. It is far more likely I just haven't found the pinhole leak yet. As for the 5220, it cures out in a day or two and it stays put. It is waterproof. It might be nice to have an entire boat made of this stuff. What I would say is to be sure--very sure--you wear disposable gloves while using this stuff. On my order, neither the back of the package nor the tube itself said anything about using gloves. The applicator is pretty much a joke and you will probably be applying this by directly applying it to what you need, possibly with assistance of a finger. If you try to use this and you don't use gloves you almost certainly WILL get this on you. It's sticky and permanent, you don't want it on your skin. This is an excellent product, and it is good that Amazon offered it, because I looked at local hardware stores (chains) and couldn't find it.

Amazing stuff! I used it to fix a leaking windshield washer pump! I know the stuff says to use it within 24 hours after opening but if you refrigerate it, it lasts for months I'm sorry for the people who received it already cured. Must have a tiny puncture or been stored in heat.

I used this to fix a leaking through hull drain plug fitting on my boat which came loose after years of tightening and loosening the brass drain plug. Once it cured the fitting is rock solid permanent fix. Really tough stuff! It seems to have made an extremely strong bond between the fiberglas hull and the brass fitting.
