The colors in this set are bright and great to color frosting with. The toothpick method it recommends was too frustrating though. Not to mention a waste of toothpicks, since it tells you to use a new toothpick everytime you want to add a dot of color. Umm, no thanks. So what I did was I used a baby medicine syringe to suck some up and just dropped in as many drops as I needed and squirted the rest back into the jar. Easy and simple!

This dye was the star of my first specialty cake making experience. I used it to dye the fondant black, light brown and dark brown. I used it to dye my frosting yellow. It goes a long way. Use a toothpick and gradually add a little color to your fondant and knead the color in, adding a little at a time until you reach the desired color. The frosting, oh... i was able to achieve this golden, beautiful yellow and it looked fantastic. No odor and absolutely tasteless. I am so excited to make more cakes so I can experiment more with the colors, mixing and making them lighter and darker. This set has endless possibilities and will last me a long while too!

I'm a food blogger and I love this product! Colors are true, and you only need a little to get a really strong and vibrant color of the batter or icing. They don't leave any aftertaste, and I've tested all colors separately (by making colorful cookies). They work great in frosting as well as fondant! Buying them on amazon is a great deal. I love the variety of colors. It a really great value for money! I will continue to reorder this product. I'm attaching photos of my blue Zebra Cake (I used Teal & Black colors)

I've taken to making cupcakes and cookies and making icing letters on them... you know, an "H" on one cookie, "A" on another, and so forth, and arrange the cookies or cupcakes to spell out HAPPY BIRTHDAY or whatever the occasion might be. I prefer bold, rich colors, like jewel tone colors, so these gel colors fit the bill to get the bold color without watering down my icing. Only takes a few toothpicks of color to get what I'm looking for, so each 1/2 ounce color is going to go a long way. A good buy, all around. I will never go back to regular liquid food coloring! Also, I know others have stated this but I'll say it again, the black color is good but you have to start with a chocolate icing, not a white icing. **Update** I found another use for these Wilton colors by making colored sugar. I've used it with granulated sugar and with sparkling sugar (bigger crystals) and it works great either way, but the sparkling sugar is more, well, "sparkly" which I like since I use the colored sugar to decorate cakes and cookies with. Put the sugar into a Ziploc bag, take the tip of a butter knife to get some color on it, then wipe the color off the knife on the inside of the bag. (Does that make sense?) Zip up the bag, then mash the sugar around with the color until evenly distributed. The color will come off the side of the plastic bag just fine and blend in with the sugar. Then spread the sugar out on a plate or a sheet of foil to dry for a few hours. Voila!

I tried to make some colored sugar cookies with regular food coloring and they tasted AWFUL. The coloring completely ruined the flavor. So, I started hunting around and found this box set. I had never used gel colors before, but from my research they seemed good. They were better than expected!! Very vibrant colors with using the smallest amount. Except for the red. I had to use the entire container to get a really true red. But that is to be expected. And you can find a six pack of just the red gel coloring to replace what you use, so it’s all good. Would HIGHLY recommend these to any baker!!

I love this brand. Always get a good color! Though if you are not familiar and are seeking a deep red or other color, note you may need to use the entire container of that color or add some other dark color in as well.

Got these to color royal icing for cookies, as grocery store food coloring liquid drops weren't vibrant enough, and using too much watered down the icing. Great range of colors and very vibrant, but of course, if you use too much, you start to get the artificial taste of the coloring coming through. Only thing is I would have like a different packaging for the coloring. The little pots make it cumbersome to add coloring to my icings. I have to use a toothpick or chopstick to gradually add the coloring. It would have been nice if it was in a tube of some sort, or something like that.

I am happy with this set. I'm using it for something other than icing so if you're using it for icing, this review may not apply. I am using it to permanently dye yarn. So far, this has worked perfectly. Nice bold colors and I've only needed a teeny amount for each batch. I stuck a fork in the little tub and only used that little amount of what was stuck to the fork and it colored a decent amount of yarn. It won't work with synthetic yarns. Containers are sealed well, no leakage in package, I received a different set and several tubes leaked out into box. You can see the vibrant colors I obtained with a few of the dyes, I use this yarn for custom dolls that I make, so for all you yarnies out there like me, these gels work great for dyeing wool yarn lol!!!!

After I run around with Amazon (the package came damaged and there was one missing but Amazon came through and I got a second set okay) I finally got to use this product. It was just as expected. Wilton products are pretty reliable. I have only used two colors (green and red) and they worked as expected. I have yet to find a deep green but by searching on line I have discovered that I can combine two of these colors and possibly make the color I am looking for. One more thing.... the price is low because these are not the standard size of Wilton food coloring that you find at Walmart. These are small containers but if you only use them once in awhile they are just the size you need.

The first time I used these to color icing I used -WAY- too much and had to start over... You really only need the tiniest amount to get to the color you're after. These colors are vibrant and really get the job done. I would say that if you make the mistake of tasting them straight you will be unpleasantly surprised, but as I said, you only need a tiny drop to do what you want them to do. Also if you taste them straight you're likely going to dye your tongue purple or whatever... just don't do it. Other than making silly rookie mistakes, these are great. I may not ever need to buy more food color since these are so potent, but if I do I'll definitely be buying these again.
