AWESOME!
Bought this to end a can opener nightmare at home. Been dealing with crappy, halfa** can openers for a while now and this thing is awesome! LOVE that the blade is removable to clean! The lighter regular cans, it holds on its own and automatically stops after can is open and even has a magnet that holds on to the top for you! VERY convenient! Haven't had a problem at all so far after a few weeks. UPDATE 10/05/2017 Still working great! Clean the blade about once a week with a moist napkin and blade is still like new. LOVE this can opener!!!! ANOTHER UPDATE 1/20/19 STILL works great! Gets used every day in my home and still opening up any can we challenge it with. This has been the best can opener I've owned. One of those lil' things you're really glad got bought for the home.

Opens cans great. Quiet. Inexpensive. Holds lids well.
Like a lot of people, our old electric can-opener is one we've had literally forever, 25 years or more, probably got it when we got married. It was noisy, gross, and recently, began grinding gears and having issues opening cans. After looking at many reviews and options, we chose this model. Typically I will buy "middle to more expensive" when purchasing appliances and other things I intend to keep for years or decades. However, after looking at reviews at all price-points, the more expensive models didn't seem to have better reviews, nor have additional features I wanted or needed, so I chose this model. We use this daily to open dog food and people food. It's very quiet. The lid holder grabs and holds the lid every time. It's easy to align cans for opening (we have only tried standard-sized soup style cans), and doesn't seem to get messy when removing cans and lids like our old unit. We've had it about two months as of this review. Highly recommended and definitely a good buy for the money.

Exactly what I was looking for.
This can opener is exactly what I have been looking for. I needed a replacement for my 10+ year old can opener. After reading reviews, I settled on this one. I am pleased with my choice. It is not overly loud when it opens the cans. For most standard size cans I can leave the can and walk away while it does its thing. When I open an oversized can of sauce, I put my hand underneath just in case, but it even handles those cans well. For the price, this is a great little can opener.

Workhorse can opener with an acquired technique
I have used this can opener before and know how difficult it can be to use, but once you get the hang of it it's a wonderful can opener. I was sick and tired of using manual can openers that would only last a few months. This can opener is a work horse. You can open very small to very large cans without trouble. The best way I can advise a person to use the can opener is to make sure the can's rim is flush with the can opener BEFORE placing the handle down to open the can. I make a lot of red chili and open several cans at a time and this can opener will hold a regular sized can and NOT tip over while I dump the opened can into the pot, however over-sized cans will tip the can opener over resulting in a mess. My grandmother has this can opener and I was able to try it before I bought it and would recommend this as the best can opener for the money. It does upon occasion peel little pieces of a can's label off, but has worked like a charm since I have had it. I believe it will last for years, if not I will update the review ;)

Works as expected
I've tried this with a few different sized cans (from traditional to costco canned chicken) and this can opener works with all of them no problem. The magnet is strong so the lid will not drop to the counter and make a mess, and the can locks in well to avoid the same issue. Haven't tried the knife sharpener in the back, but I didn't buy it for that (didn't even know it came with one!) I haven't had it very long, but so far so good. If issues arise with repeated use I will update the review accordingly. Edit: Checking in almost 2 years later to say this thing is still working like the day I got it. No complaints!

To be honest I bought this opener for 2 reasons...I needed a new one...and its red color matched in my kitchen. But while I don't use it a lot, I have to say I am happy with this opener...it works much better than the one I had before...the magnet actually sticks to the lids of the cans I'm opening, which was a problem with the one it replaced...and so far I have had no trouble getting it to "lock onto" the cans and begin the opening process...another issue I had with the old one...that one sometimes took multiple tries before it would grip the can I wanted to open.

So far, so good...
Opens cans slick as a whistle... I have neuropathy in my hands due to taking chemo 8 months last year, so was crossing my fingers I could work this electric can opener way better then I could the hand twist can opener which I couldn't use at all. So far so good. The description says you don't have to hold under the can, but with the weakness and numbness in my fingers and hands I still place my hand about an inch under the can just in case. Because if for any reason the can slipped off, I'd never be able to catch it before it hit the floor. The distance between the bottom of the magnet holder and the countertop is almost 7". But I wouldn't try to open a can more than 6" tall. A regular can of vegetables it's slightly more than 4" tall. I haven't used the knife sharpener but when I do, and I use the opener longer, I'll write another review.

Opens cans like a warm knife slices butter.
This is the best can opener i ever used. Seriously. When i was living with my mom she had a nice automatic can opener hanging from her kitchen cabinet that was pretty impressive for its time. She had it for many years and it worked great. After i moved out she gave me a countertop automatic can opener as a gift. Bless my mom, she was trying to help but this thing was a pain to use. It wouldn't grip the can unless you were at just the right angle. And when it finally gripped, it wouldn't pierce the can. You'd have to use enough force to pierce it and hope it still grips afterwards. It would take about 15 minutes just to open small cans. After a dozen or so uses we just bought cheap hand openers as we don't eat canned food too often. Over a year later i got fed up with the cheap can openers. One of them was bending itself before it would puncture a can. So i looked into this hamilton beach. Almost everyone rated it high and the price was right so i took the plunge. I just used it for the first time and now i just want to sit here and open cans. It was the most pleasant can opening experience I've ever had. This thing is surprisingly quiet. You just hear a soft pleasant hum. Usually with can openers you can feel the puncture when you push down the lever. When i pushed the lever on the hamilton beach it was almost like pushing it into a cushion. Without any assistance or grinding noise the can rotated around smoothly and stopped immediately when it had reach the end of the cut. As an iphone owner i swear this could be an apple product (pre-steve jobs death). It just feels like a polished quality product (BUT WITHOUT THE CRAZY PROFIT MARGINS). I never thought i would be this happy about a can opener. I think i will be buying more canned goods now that i know opening a can isnt going to be a fight with a can opener.

I LOVE how smooth this can opener is
We were in desperate need of a new electric can opener...but until I got this new Hamilton Beach opener, I didn't know HOW badly we needed a new one. I LOVE how smooth this can opener is. It's so simple to use and opens all canned products so easily. I haven't used the knife sharpener yet, but plan to do so in the future. I like that this feature is added on...it's just a nice little bonus to an already very nice high quality electric can opener.
