Great for preschoolers!

This was a gift for my daughter's 2nd birthday. She's had it about a year now, and it still gets regular (almost-daily) use. My father-in-law put it together, since we had the party at their house, but he said it was quick and easy. I like that it is double-sided, as she does have other siblings who like to do art with her occasionally. We don't use the chalkboard much, she prefers the dry-erase and the paper. The dry-erase board comes clean fairly easily, but I tend to use a washcloth and a spritz of water or windex when it needs a thorough cleaning. Most of the clips have broken by now, but it's not a huge issue. I have small tin buckets that fit in the little cup holder spaces, and we use them for crayons and colored pencils. The easel is sturdy and perfect for the average 2-6 year old child.

Perfect multipurpose folding easel

This easel is absolutely perfect. It works well for both the 6-year-old and the 3-year-old. Deep trays for paint, brushes, markers, chalk, crayons, etc. easy to assemble. DOES fold up easily (but the kids will want to use it all the time so it won’t be stored much). Chalk board is perfect if you follow the directions on the internet for priming a chalk board. Roll of paper stores on a dowel between the two boards—chalk board and white board. Basically this easel functions for every type of artwork—chalk, dry erase, paint, crayons. Comes with clips to hold the paper. Does not come with art supplies or paper. Recommend you buy the Melissa and Doug Easel Accessory kit which has everything you need to get started.

Perfect for 2 to paint at the same time

So glad I purchased this. It was costly, but well worth it. I have two young children, so I rip paper off and clip on one side and pull paper and clip on the intended side too. I purchased paint cups, paint brushes, paper rolls separate, as I was able to get more for less money than if I purchased as the kit with this. The racks and clips on both sides make it easy to have two children paint on either side at the same time.

Good, Strong, Quality!

Perfect Christmas present for my daughter! She was so excited when she woke up and found this in the living room and it has been well used. My daughter is crazy over drawing painting and the chalkboard side acting like a teacher. I like the organization of the cups for underneath on both sides and there are clips that holds the paper in place while they draw. The paper is inserted in the middle of the easel and out through the top where the clamps hold it down. Also the easel is a perfect hight and can be adjustable. It's not flimsy and is very good strong quality that's not going to tip over easy. I definitely recommend purchasing this easel for your child. Great price! I'm very happy with this product.

Well Made, Easy to Assemble, Works Great!

This Melissa and Doug easel is great! Before purchasing this I read a large number of reviews. I found it very easy to assemble. In the directions it says to make sure that the label stickers are facing each other when putting the legs together. I think this might be the reason another reviewer said the holes didn't line up correctly. Another review said the number of knobs made it look odd by not having them all match up, like all of one side being the same color. Because of this, I thought the color placement out before putting it together. I really like how the color mix turned out. A few people said that the chalk board didn't work right. I ordered the Melissa and Doug chalk to go with it in case the type of chalk mattered. The chalkboard and the dry erase board both work great. Easy to write on and easy to wipe off. I also really like that it can be adjusted to three heights. My almost five year old is on the middle one so there is still plenty of room to grow with her. She really loves this easel and I love that it is helping her with writing and drawing skills at the same time as allowing her to be creative. It is very sturdy and I believe it will last a long time.

Excellent art activity center for your child!

This easel is wonderful! We got this for our son's birthday, and it is everything we want in an easel. I like how one side is a dry erase board and the other side is a chalk board. The trays are a nice touch, and the side with the dry erase board has a tray where you can put paint containers. The only down side is that the spaces for the containers are made specifically for the four Melissa & Doug paint containers, and you can't really fit much more. In the middle of the easel is a rod where you can add a roll of paper to drape over the top of the easel and clip it to the side so that your child can paint. The easel comes with four removable clips, which is another down-side because my son constantly takes these clips and loses them. At the moment, I have absolutely no idea where they are. When I find them, I put them back on the easel, but then the second I turn my back, he takes them off again. I think it would be better if there were clips attached to the board, like the way a clipboard works. The chalkboard is neat... it's made out of a different material than a classroom chalkboard, so if you're like me and don't like the way a chalkboard feels or sounds, then you'll like this one! It's more of like a plastic... hard to explain, but it erases nicely, and if there is chalk residue on it, you can easily wipe it clean. This easel is well-made and sturdy. I like how your child has a choice between markers, chalk, or paint, and that you can have two kids working on it at once. This has not let me down yet!! Worth every penny.

Way better than a plastic molded one

Pretty simple to assemble, and was incredible looking once finished. I like the fact theirs trays on the outside to store some art supplies so when its collapsed you don't need to put everything away. Its very sturdy, could use a finish coat on the wood but for the price its totally fine. Its a little taller than I was expecting and theirs 3 levels the drawing boards can be affixed which is nice for the future. +++A

Great art station for the kids

Works great! My wife and toddler love it! I like the adjustable height for the chalkboard/dry erase board which allows it to grow with your kids. There is a slight issue with the instructions, if you try to assemble as seen in the images with the hinges facing out you will run into alignment issues with the pre-drilled holes and the screws used to bolt together the 2 piece legs will be too short. Once I figured that out and flipped the legs around it went together very easily. Once assembled it is quite sturdy and very stable. Our 15 m/o likes to push it around the living room. I am sure as she gets bigger she will start using it as designed.

Don't waste your money on those overpriced easels!

If you are looking for a standing easel for your child, this is the one to buy! After looking endlessly for a standing easel for my daughters 4th birthday, I finally came across the Melissa and Doug Melissa & Doug Deluxe Standing Easel. I am a huge fan of the Melissa and Doug product line and this easel was no different. Don't be fooled by the over priced easels that have a custom finish...your child will have paint all of that that beautiful white finish in a matter of minutes and you will be kicking yourself that you just spent more that $60 on a painting easel. As with most products you order online you will need to set aside some time to put the easel together. The directions are clear, it came with all the parts I needed and the end result was a great easel that is sturdy, and isn't overpriced. P.S. Make sure you get the accessory kit so they have everything they need to start painting and a drop cloth or your carpet won't last long.
