I placed two orders for this food in April 2018. I opened and fed my babies from this batch which was coded with a best used by date of June 2019. The second order had a best used by date of October 2018! I opened that last week and feed my babies which all three died within a couple of hours of that feeding. While I swear by this formula, the manufacturer has no control over how Amazon is rotating their inventory. This has been a disastrous lesson for me. I hope that Amazon takes heed and I hope that anyone reading this makes sure that the use by date is not anywhere near the date you are using it. It becomes unstable if not stored in a refrigerated area.

Carus P. Gin, the pigeon we found, grew from ugly baby bird-ness (like, super ugly) to handsome (for a pigeon) adult birdness on this formula and eventually some seeds. He did really well and became a very healthy amount of bird-plump with it. He did get to be a bit of an a-hole as he got older, but I don't think that was the food.

This is what I feed baby birds that have fallen from a nest or find on the ground. I've had several given to me because folks know they might survive. The main use is for Baby / Adult chickens who are NOT eating because of sickness. or ??? Fowl Pox will kill a chicken because the eyes MIGHT "scab over", chick can't see to eat and dies quick. Sometimes an older chicken won't eat and I've had good luck "hand feeding" for a few days,, kind of like a "jump start". Saved many a chicken using Kaytree. Also like this because I don't need to buy a large quantity. For my use,, can will last several years it put in "baggies" and into the freezer.

I have a Green Cheek Conure that had her top beak traumatically amputated in a fight with another bird, she survived and is still full of all the attitude she has always had. However, she is a happy bird and thriving just fine, I place few scoops of the feed and a few tablespoons of finch food in a bowl and she eats away. She loves it and I credit it with her survival !!!

this is a great supplement to help a senior bird or ill parrot to gain weight. It is also great to use as bonding with a new parrot that you've adopted or rescued

I've used KayTee brands before when I worked for a bird breeder/pet store owner and didn't have any problems with this product at all. Now that I'm raising my own babies, this is the only formula that I have or will use. It mixes really easily without clumping. If you get a bit too much water in the mix, it will automatically separate the formula from the excess water, so you can actually pour out some water to make the mixture thicker. It cleans up really easily also especialy from your babies.

I've actually been using this formula for a while, as does the facility that I work for. I work for a wildlife rescue and we only use Kaytee exact formula for all of our baby doves and pigeons, and it works great for them! We've been using it for years and have had no issues with the formula itself. As always, when hand rearing any birds, it is important to NOT refill their crop if they still have a good amount of formula in their crop already. This can cause sour crop in young birds, but this is usually treatable if you simply feed the baby pedialyte and wait for the formula to pass. This isn't an issue with the formula though, this is just because it's impossible to exactly replicate nature, where the parents wouldn't need to be feeling the crop of their babies before feeding them again! As for my personal experience, I have used this formula to hand raise three Quaker parrots. Needless to say they all grew up healthy and vibrant! The youngest Quaker I used this formula with was one that was less than two weeks old, pictured here. She grew up to be a beautiful adult in no time!

I have to use this in all of his food that I have to wet to make soft so he can eat it.He loves it and keeps him healthy. Will buy more as soon as I run out.

I've been using it to feed my tiny 5 yr old bantam hen who lost part of her beak in an attack by a cat. She was the only surviving hen in the coop and I didn't realize she had been injured until I was feeding her and noticed her drooling when she was trying to eat the traditional food I always fed them. I tried yogurt at first which did not go well. Thank goodness I found this on a back yard chicken website. I mix it up everyday with a tbsp of apple sauce and some water and roll it around in some grain...it is the consistency of soft cookie dough. Her and her new hen friend love it! They come running towards me when I go out to feed them. I only feed the, this once a day....the injured hen is the size of a large pigeon. She can still eat some grain and some dried worms.

I used this to save a baby bird. It grew up to be a loving house bird that followed me everywhere -- even outdoors. All this time I tried to get the bird to eat normal bird food and learn to live outdoors, but it always preferred this mix and indoors roosting on the ceiling fan blades at night. Like all pet stories they end sadly as one day I went out to call my bird -- and it was gone forever. I looked for it still months later. But I still have some of this food for perhaps next time. I like to think the bird found a lover mate and left happily ever after.
