I love my salts. There's a preferred salt for almost every type of food. Fleur de sel, or "flower of salt", is a *finishing salt*. This means that after a meal is cooked and prepared, fleur de sel is added as the final touch to enhance your food. Add a little bit right before you eat and it will add a kick of flavor. If you're interested in other salts:

It is hard to put into words just how wonderful is this salt. There is a slight moisture and density that I have only ever found in salts farmed in Provence. The taste is mild, with faint reminiscence of ocean sans brine and stagnant waters. I'm rambling, you see? The taste and 'mouth feel' is one of a kind; truly remarkable. I know some will balk at the price, but this is actually rather low for both company and quality.

Great Salt. Gave to my sister as a gift, great flavor, easy to add to a dish with this cute container for the counter. Perfect size granules

I guess I am becoming a salt snob. I have used Grey Celtic salt for years and just never tried fleur de sel. Now I have and I understand what a great finishing salt can do for a dish. I keep this salt in a grinder mostly for convenience and to give a more consistent pour onto my food. Unlike the usual table salt, this will not sit on the palate but rather imparts a bright dash of flavor and then is gone with the food. I like it on freshly steamed vegetables and raw fruits and veggies. What it does to some sliced raw avocado on your plate is downright sinful. Try it and you can never go back to "when it rains it pours" salt again. Another nice thing is that because of intense flavor you will need less salt and hence actually reduce your sodium intake.

Love this salt. The first one of similar kind, slightly different, from Brittany, my husband bought at Bon Marche n Paris. It came in a sack. I used it with my gourmet meals and loved it. Then on a following trip to Paris, we bought one more and saw this one on the shelf. Decided to give it a try. It's delicious. I am glad I found it online, I don't have to travel for it. And the price isn't really higher than if you buy it in Paris. It was priced higher at a supermarket in Europe last summer but I didn't have to bother. Sprinkle some on meat, fish, after cooking. You can add while cooking, too, but save room for adding after. It looks coarse but don't worry, It just melts quickly and gives great taste and flavor to the dish. Enjoy!

I love this salt. I use it in salted caramel and a lot of desserts. Next time you make chocolate chip cookies sprinkles just a little of this over the top while they are warm and it just enhances the flavor! I also do that with shortbread. I bought this same size tub at a gourmet kitchen store and spent almost $14 so this is a great price. Just remember this is a finishing salt, it is to use after your food has been cooked. It’s a much softer and delicate taste than regular or kosher salt.

I first purchased this salt in France, just as a memento to bring home. It is a wonderful finishing salt, providing a crunch without being too salty and I am very glad Amazon carries the product. I do not want to be without this Fleur De Sel.

In ancient times wjen people were "worth their salt" or would get paid in salt...this is he stuff they were talking about. This is not a spice, or an ingredient. It's a topping. That's how I use salt anyway...I want to taste the salt. This does the trick. Really good stuff. Cool container with a nice cork lid. Looks nice on the table. Also a nice conversational gift to bring to a dinner party.

I bought this because I was curious, wondering why a salt would have such high reviews - it's not like there's designer salt, right? Well, I'm converted and now an adventurer in different salts. This one has larger flakes than you may be used to and a much more intense salty taste. I think that perhaps regular salt is so adulterated with fillers and additives that the taste gets lost. I typically use Himilayan pink salt or Redmond Real Salt but I must say this salt seems to have a better taste than those as well. I suggest you use your regular salt for cooking and have this as the salt you may add right before serving. It seems to me a waste to use this in a recipe but great for salting right before eating.

I have been using this salt for five decades and even spent time in Martigues, France which is near Camargues. I have used salts from Guerande. France (I lived in the Touraine for seven years) and the salts from Maldon, UK, the Himalayas, Hawaiian Black Lava salt, Swedish Falksalt and many others. After all my trials, and I keep multiple salts on the table, I still come back to Le Saunier De Camargue as my favorite finishing salt. I recommend that people experiment with multiple salts to find out which is their taste preference and which works better for specific purposes.
