I've had this machine for 6 years (purchased here on Amazon in May, 2008), and it gets a LOT of use. It has been holding up beautifully, with no quirks or issues at all. I've used it ONLY for making bread, so my review is written from that standpoint. I usually purchase bread mixes from a couple of different sources (one in particular, The Prepared Pantry, has GREAT bread mixes, a lot of which require only water or water with a little melted butter), and have never had a problem with any of them. Following the directions to the letter helps guarantee good results, especially making sure the water is the proper temperature. Don't guess on that; it's critical to the success. I hand wash the baking pan and paddle, and they're doing just fine with no signs of wear, except that the baking pan's wire handle is just a tad bent. Doesn't hurt anything, and it's due to my being in a hurry to get the pan out of the breadmaker: you have to twist it slightly before pulling up, and over time, it has twisted the wire handle a bit. It doesn't interfere at all with the operation. The only thing that took a bit of experimentation was the loaf color (light, medium, dark). For me, "light" seems to work the best for all breads I've tried in this machine. Recently, I've been making 1-2 loaves per week (I'm single), and it just keeps working as if it were new. All of the bread mixes I use say to use the "basic" cycle, so that's what I use, even when making whole wheat or other whole grain breads. Never had a bad result. I've rarely been this pleased with a small appliance, and I've rarely had one last this long with the kind of use it gets. This is a solid machine that consistently produces good results. Highly recommended. UPDATE: Jan 18, 2015 -- still making 1-2 loaves per week, still getting excellent results. Unit is now nearly 7 yrs old. The ONLY complaint I have is the LCD display is a little difficult to read in certain lighting conditions, so I have to be careful when I set it at the beginning of a cycle. No deterioration that I can tell in operation or results. It's like the energizer bunny: just keeps going and going. I couldn't be happier.

I've been the victim of so many kitchen gadgets, filled with empty promises. I am usually so, so, so disappointed. One day, I heard tell of a magical device called, -A Breadmaker-. It sounded too good to be true. Surely, an art such as break making cannot be replicated by a machine?! And so I researched and read and eventually added this to my wishlist. But memories of gadgets past kept me from making my purchase. Then, on Christmas morning, I find myself face to face with this myth, in the flesh! (kinda). I searched my cabinets and found I had what I needed for a loaf of french bread. With great trepidation, I set it and let it go. Soon, my home was filled with the delicious aroma of fresh bread. Could it be? Could the legends be true? I easily released the bread from its pan and took a bite. HOLEY GUACAMOLE I MADE BREAD BY DUMPING SOME CRAP IN A BOWL AND STICKING IT IN A MACHINE AND GOING TO PLAY VIDEO GAMES. I've made all the breads in the recipe book and have a folder full or recipes to try. I've used the timer to wake up to fresh bread. I. LOVE. THIS. THING. -sobs while stroking bread maker-

The Sunbeam 5891 2-pound breadmaker is very well made and bakes bread perfectly when recipes are followed correctly. I have made several loves of bread, and most of them came out perfectly. I did not follow the instructions in the book that came with this breadmaker, as after researching, I learned the recipes were not completely correct and used too much yeast. I tried making the 1 1/2 lb. loaf and the 2 lb loaf. The 2 lb loaf is the default, so be sure it is set on the one you want, because it reverts back to the 2 lb size each time switched on. Otherwise, this breadmaker is perfect for me.

Love this bread making machine. I only made one loaf of French bread ....no problems. I followed the instructions from the booklet and it worked fine. Super easy to do. Just put your ingredients and patiently wait for your bread. The machine is not that noisy . The only negative that’s expected, it’s a rather large piece of kitchen appliance . Not so easy to storage unless you have plenty of storage space. Update: I used the dough option yesterday and I couldn’t be more happy . It turned out perfect . The dough was just the way it needed to be and it rose beautifully. The best part about this machine - no more mess . It’s so simple and clean to make anything. Another update: just made the peach jam from the recipe book and omg , it’s perfect. It jellyfied the way it should . It’s delicious and it was so easy to make . This machine does wonders. I love it !

This gem of a machine arrived last week. It's my third bread machine in about 25 years, and definitely the best! The unit is good-looking enough to keep on the kitchen counter, where mine will probably stay, as it is a rather large machine, and won't fit where the last one was. I don't consider that a problem, and it'll be handier. The construction is very sturdy. My machine shakes just a bit during the initial mixing and kneading, but it certainly isn't going to walk off the counter. The rubber feet keep it firmly in place. To insert the pan into the machine, follow the instruction manual. Then, when the bread is finished backing they state you are to pull the pan straight up and out. I didn't find this to work. The pan didn't want to come out, so I gave it a slight twist, reversing the process I'd used to insert it. That worked fine. Best of all the paddle remained in the pan when I shook the loaf out. Oh, and the paddle itself is a bit bigger than those of my previous machines, which I think allows better mixing and kneading. The things I like best are the viewing window and setting buttons. The viewing window is bigger than I's used to, and the front-set buttons were a big selling point to me. My other machines had the buttons on the top, and being short, I usually had to stand on a stool to get a clear view of what I was doing. I'm 67, and that isn't always such a wise thing to do. I made my first loaf using the basic recipe in the instruction book, making a 1.5 lb loaf. It was so awesome! A beautiful golden brown on the Medium crust setting, light, fluffy, with a wonderful taste. I used bread flour and Fleishmann's RapidRise Instant Yeast. I wondered about that, but the yeast package says it works great in bread machines. It does. I chose that because my previous machines, using the regular active dry yeast, were always a bit heavier than I would have liked. I know I've got a winner here! I did my research before purchasing and compared 7 different machines. The Sunbeam had all the things I wanted (and more), and none of the things I knew I would never use. My philosophy has always been, the simpler the machine, the less there is to go wrong. I admit I was tempted by fancier machines, but his one is very user friendly, and I trust I'll be using it for years to come. As I write this, the Sunbeam bread machine is hard at work, making what I expect will be another perfect loaf. Thank you, Sunbeam!

I have used bread machines for over 20 years and this is the first one I've had that doesn't require digging out the paddle from the baked loaf. Even after over 10 loaves the bread comes out clean and paddle free. My tried and true whole wheat recipes have turned out great. I bought a "like new" one for $45 and it came in the original packaging and looked brand new. Very pleased.

I was impressed by the number of rave reviews this bread machine had received so I decided to try it instead of a much more expensive unit I'd been contemplating. So far I am not disappointed. It runs MUCH more quietly than my previous machine, and when you remove the bread from the pan, there's only a slit (instead of a huge gaping hole) where the paddle had been. I don't need a lot of sophisticated features on a bread machine, I just need a machine that will make reliably make our favorite recipes. The Sunbeam is doing that, so I'm happy with it!

I love this appliance. I have a really poor learning curve with the bread, not its fault, mine. You definitely need a really good thermometer to make sure you get the temperatures right with the yeast. What I really like is I can make danish pastry dough that really turns out well. You can find some great recipes on the internet for more than just the handful that come with the user's manual. Once you get all the ingredients mixed just push a couple of buttons and ignore it for a few hours and you have bread or dough. All in all this is pretty fool proof. This is my first bread machine just to let you know I am a nube bread baking with one. I would and have recommended this to friends and family.

This is my first ever bread machine and let me preface that by saying I do not like to bake as a rule. What I do like is bread of any type as a snack and with meals - bread is simply my favorite food - I'll choose it over sweets every time. I have recently been diagnosed with a severe adult onset allergy to both soy and eggs, so this has put a dent in eating anything made commercially or at the local bakeries - no more store bought bread, rolls, etc for me. In desperation I decided to learn to make my own and figured I would buy the least complicated, least expensive bread machine on the market with the best reputation - I got this one from the Amazon warehouse. My theory was if I hate doing this then I'm not out a huge amount of cash in the overall experiment. Well, it's been almost three weeks and I've made 12 different loaves so far with great success and almost no trouble at all. This machine is extremely easy to use and relatively uncomplicated. The book is pretty simple and straight forward to understand - though the recipes in it aren't to my liking personally, that's just an individual taste issue. The buttons are large and easy to operate & the LCD screen is clear once you read the book and know what each code means. It is a bit hard to see without good light though. My unit came with a plastic cup for flour and a one piece combo teaspoon/tablespoon for salt & sugar. I am using King Arthur Bread Flour only and Fleishmann's bread machine yeast in the jar (I know there are other yeasts out there, but as a newbie, I went with what 3 of my experienced bread baking friends suggested) and I have absolutely no problems at all with any of my breads rising or correctly or having the right texture when cooked. I have also followed the tip of lightly wiping the paddle with a bit of oil before use so that it slips out of my finished loaf easily. The machine does beep after the first rise before it kneads a second time so you can drop your add-ins in before the second mix/knead session. I've done a loaf of bacon-beer-cheese bread, adding the bacon & shredded cheese in this way and everything incorporated into the dough perfectly. (I felt like a magician putting homemade bacon bread on the table and watching my husband's eyes bug out!) I am still learning something every time I use this machine, but it has earned a permanent place on my counter top and for now anyway, I cannot see any reason to spend more money and buy a two hundred dollar version. I can put the ingredients in an have hot, fresh, soft bread ready in three hours or a slightly denser loaf in an hour on the the quick bake setting. Now that I've got the basics down pat it only takes about 10 minutes to pull the ingredients out, put them in the machine, turn it on and clean up. Done. This is actually one of my favorite purchases of the past year. ******One Year Update Feb 2017 ***** I've been making bread on average twice a week with this little machine for a year. It just works right every time with no drama. I have only had one loaf fail to rise correctly and it turned out that I had used 1/2 the yeast needed....so my fault. I've made cranberry bread, pumpkin bread, peanut butter bread and your usual cheese or nut breads without any issues. The best though is buttermilk bread - it always ends up with a creamy, soft texture that is a big hit as a hostess gift. I would absolutely buy this bread machine again.

My old bread machine finally quit, after more than ten years. After researching the new machines, I decided to go with this item and am SO GLAD I did! It's much quieter than my old machine, and a little smaller. My only complaint is that there is a tool included with the machine that didn't seem to have a use at first, and is not mentioned in the manual. DO NOT THROW THIS TOOL AWAY as it can be used to grab the loaf bin handle (duh!).
