After Mom's hip surgery we purchased this thinking she might need it. Well... we ended up needing it as well! It really has the best suction and doesn't come off the surface you attached it to. ( It does need to be a smooth surface ) It really gives you the confidence in getting in or out of the shower or bath tub when you're just a little unsteady. Its great for those balance issues related to a bad back, hip problems and bad knees.... whether you had OR need surgery. I was surprised how much better I felt using this knowing I wasnt going to loose my balance and slip or fall. As far as Mom goes, we did installed permanent bars throughout her shower.. her and Dad are up in their 80's... in case you were wondering about her.. ;-)

***I had to come and write an update on this product. I have had this on my wall for some time and it only lost the grip today after using it everyday for well over a month. I highly recommend this safe grip helper, it works GREAT!!!!*** This works so well!!! I will be buying three more to place on my tub and shower walls. I have the one that I placed on the tile just outside the shower and I use it to help keep my balance while standing up from the toilet. I placed it on the wall maybe five days ago, and it has not lost any of the grip from the first day. Works like a charm! I highly recommend this for anyone who needs extra help for balance!!

I bought this for our shower because my parents were coming for Christmas and my stepfather is an amputee. He’s almost 70, roughly 6’2 and 2-250lbs (or more post Christmas feast), and I didn’t hear a crash all week-he survived the holidays without any injury and the handle is still in place. It was very easy to install -which made me leary because I felt like it was too easy. I can’t get a shower caddy to stay up without crashing so my fear of being the kid who put in the shower handle wrong and causing a holiday catastrophe was a real concern- my mother would never let me live it down. But rest assured, this thing is easy, and sturdy, and the price was great - holidays are tight enough without my desperate need for karma points and parental approval making extra deductions from my bank account. :/

This little helper is amazing! Locks tightly to tub sides and is strong and safe. I bought 2 and it eases my way out of the new deep soaking tub. Looks cool too!

I bought both the 11.5" and 17" (16.5") to assist my husband getting in the shower/tub after knee replacement surgery since I wasn't sure which would fit best. I have 4" tiles (very smooth ceramic) and ended up keeping both. I mounted the 11.5" at the entrance and the 17" at the far tub wall. The 11.5" handle did cross the grout line as seen in photo but I had no problem getting a secure grip. We tested both with full body weight and they didn't budge. We have been using them daily as recommended not expecting them to support full body weight and are pleased. We also make sure to test them before we enter the tub. After my husband recovers I plan to let my mother try these since she sometimes needs help with stability. I did notice that each bar was a different shade of white but that wasn't a problem for me. If I needed a lot of support I would install permanent shower grab bars but these worked great for my current need.

After slipping in the shower on several occasions, it was time to look for some sort of assistance. My initial thought on these suction cup products was were they really going to be able to hold my 185lbs after grabbing them for leverage to help prevent another slip and fall. SHOCKED!! Not only was I shocked at the gripping capacity of these suction cups, but being so simple to move around is a big plus. It took a couple of adjustments to find the perfect spot for me which would have been a mess using a permanent grab bar. Would and have recommended these truly Changing Lifestyles Grip Bars to anyone needing that extra help in the shower or anywhere else there's a smooth surface for the suction cups to adhere to. Great for the grandkids too because of the ease at which they can moved at anytime!

After recent falls, I checked Consumer Reports then purchased two grabs bars: this 11.5" one by Changing Lifestyles and a 16" bar by another manufacturer. I first cleansed the tile wall with alcohol to remove any soap residue. The other bar fell off after several days. This bar by Changing Lifestyle stayed put and the contact remains firm and solid. So I've purchased a second bar, which I placed on the outside edge of the shower, to assist with getting in and out of the shower. As other readers note, I would not expect these suction clamps to hold my entire weight. However, as a balance assist device, they are excellent. Do not place the suction cups over the groat. I dry them off after each shower and check them before every shower. Eventually, I may install permanent grab bars but until I'm sure of the placement and type, these are a good way to test out your preferences and needs.

This is a sturdy and well made item. I am going to be having a knee replacement and my tub/shower requires that I step over the edge of the tub. My original plan was to install a stainless steel permanent grab bar but I really don't want my bath to resemble the old fplks home. I purchased this with low expectations but nothing could be farther from the truth. In fact I just ordered two more of these so there will be several points on which to balance. The manufacturer is quite clear that these are not to be used for weight bearing but I can not get this to slip on my fiberglass shower wall no matter how hard I pull.

So far they work great on the wall tile in my shower and provide security against a fall from a wet floor/pad especially for my wife who has balance issues. CAUTION: You need to consider what size tile you have and the size of the gripper suction cups given that from my experience you need to have "at least 95%" of each suction cup totally on the face of the tile for it to work as intended. On my first attachment I was centered on one tile but a substantial portion of the other suction cup was not centered on it's tile. After several attempts I was able to attach the gripper such that only a "very small" portion of each cup was not on the respective tiles. The portion not on the tile is at the very edge of the suction cup and apparently not required for full suction. My tiles are large enough (4-3/8 inch square) but given the spacing of the "Gripper" suction cups I had to find just the right spot to make the grip connection solid and reliable on both vertical tiles. Both suction cups are just slightly off the edge of each tile but they have been on for months without fail. Given that my tiles are square I would have had the same issue whether I oriented vertical or horizontal. I considered a 45 degree connection but that did not work either. I do test them occasionally just to be sure they continue to have a solid connection to the tiles. If your tiles are less than 4 inches square I don't believe the 11.5 inch Gripper will work for you. The suction cups appear to require at least a 4 inch square tile for perfect full contact. The center to center spacing of the gripper suction cups is about 8 inches. As such, this might suggest that 4 inch tiles would be perfect but given the grout spacing between tiles and the center to center dimension between the cups this would not be the case. The bottom line is that you should check closely before purchase and measure your tiles and mock up the fit of the Gripper. I didn't but I was lucky that they fit. Don't use my rough dimensions above...contact the vendor (it may also be in the online description information) on the suction cup diameters and spacing and then make your decision. The Grippers themselves work great... but not if you don't have the right tile size or spacing for them to be locked down securely.

I have just started my third trimester. As my stomach has grown I can definitely tell my sense of balance is off. Having a suction bath mat in the floor of my shower did not help much because the floor is slightly textured so the mat won't stay suctioned for long. After rinsing off suds, my walk in shower feels like I'm standing on banana peels soaked in oil lol. I bought two of these, one for the actual shower wall (like a re-bath material) and one across from it on the glass enclosure. They have a great grip! I still move slowly and take my time, but these really help make me feel safer as I turn around in the shower.
