I. LOVE. THIS. CHAIR. And the Gaiam company.
And so do my husband, three of my sons, and my parakeets. Easy as pie assembly, FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS and the ball will inflate and hold fine. You should probably purchase an office chair floor mat for hard floor or carpet - whichever applies - when you buy the chair. Otherwise, unless you're using it in a workout room or garage, you WILL have a frustrating wait before you can use this fully. I really wish I'd followed my initial inclination and whimsy, and bought one of the more colorful bases and balls. If you are purchasing for an office environment, then yes, the black on black is subtle and professional. It's unlikely that anyone but the most straightlaced supervisors will even notice, much less object (unless you're making a spectacle of yourself). Just say you have a weak core and this helps keep you out of doctor and chiropractor appointments! I had planned to buy a couple of Gaiam's 65cm balls in different colors for exercise anyway; I think I'll let hubby take this chair to work and buy myself the bright green, crossed fingers it's still available! And I wish they had more chair base colors! The lime green may completely clash with my decor but so what. It's a chair made out of a giant ball lol. I'm also really considering buying a couple of the armless backless versions for my teen sons to use playing video and computer games. If they fry their brains, at least they will still have great posture.

Durable and useful
I bought this chair on impulse four years ago and I have been very happy with the purchase. I got this because I thought that it would help alleviate my back pain and it does. I do not sit on it all day but I find that it is a wonderful chair to switch to in order to change my posture and take the pressure off of certain points. It is much easier to get up and down from this ball chair than from a softer chair. The chair is lightweight and so easy to roll over any type of carpeting. I did wonder if I would have to be pumping air into it on a regular basis and found that it does hold air quite well. Every few months, I may pump a bit of extra air in to make it firmer. I am 5 feet 4 inches tall and weigh less than 110 pounds and find that this chair meets my needs and helps improve my posture while sitting at a desk.

Say goodbye to back pain
Say goodbye to back problems. Get rid of those old bad back chairs and invest in this chair. Just be sure you understand that when you inflate those exercise balls it takes a few days until they reach full size. Day one use the pump and blow it up to a large beach ball size and let it sit for 24hours and then put more air in and let it sit again for another day ... next, begin putting more air and experimenting with it in the base ... you will more than likely be playing with it for about a week until you get it where you want it. Also you may have to add air more often in the first couple weeks and then the ball will be good and stretched and hold it's air... it's well worth the effort. Not only will you notice a significant reduction in your back pain from computer use but you will also have better posture overall.... and you can use it to do exercises as well.. it comes with a little poster of different exercises you can do with your new chair.. Base is very easily put together

not a bad chair
A lot of reviews mentioned the metal retaining bar breaking after a few months. I've been using my chair for 10 months with no problems yet. Many of the negative reviews have photos showing a conventional nut in the top and bottom positions. Mine came with a standard nut and a T-nut. The T-nut wouldn't poke into the plastic, and I didn't want to drill things out, so I flipped it as shown in the photo. This seems to provide some stress relief on the metal bar, as it hasn't broken yet. As far as the chair goes, I got it for my back and it seems to work ok for that. What I didn't expect was that my hip, messed up from 38 years of snowboarding, would completely clear up. Something about sitting on a ball chair stretches my hip out and I spent last season pain-free.

Perfect for medium sized child- may be too small for an adult!
My son loves this for school. I bought this after he "bounced" himself off of a full sized yoga ball in class and landed on his tailbone on the tile. He was injured and had to sit out of football for a week due to shooting pain. This chair is much safer and gives him something to lean back on. He is 9 years old and of average height (4' tall, 90 lbs). Yes, the ball we received is on the small size. It is not as big as the ball in the photo. But, if you are buying this for an middle to older child it's perfect! A larger ball would prevent my son's feet from touching the floor and make it difficult for him to get on. I can see how a grown adult might not like this though. Quality of chair is good too- easy to assemble!

READ THE DIRECTIONS, PEOPLE
For all the 1-star reviews saying that the ball is too small...please read the directions about how to properly inflate the ball. It needs to be done in two sessions, to allow the ball to stretch to its full size. First, inflate it as far as it will comfortably go. Put the plug in. Wait a day or two. Then add more air and it will easily achieve 52cm. I effortlessly got mine too large and had to let out some air. The ball does gradually lose air over time, so it needs to be "topped off" every few months or so if using it often. The downside to this ball chair, in my household, is that the ball is NOT cat-proof. On a whim, my 18-lb cat decided to mount the ball. We heard a pop! and then a slow swishing sound. Now we just have a sad, crumpled, wad of rubber laying in the base of the chair frame. Needless to say, I'm here to purchase a replacement ball.

AMAZING
This is the BEST desk chair (for me). I was skeptical, but it really is comfortable. You're not actually shifting around like I imagined you would be doing. It is so slight that you do not even notice it. After sitting at my desk for several hours I can really feel my glutes and hamstrings, so I know that I am working those muscles as I am sitting. Comfortable and also great for doing stretches on. I find myself kind of bouncing around on it from time to time. I love the fun green color and plan on putting some 'alien eyes' on the back of it to make it look like an alien. 10/10 would recommend again. I'm not being paid for this review, I just really love this chair.

Helps with back issues
I have issues with my lower back and have struggled for years to find the right office chair for my home office. I sit and work about 8 to 10 hours a day. Never thought about a ball chair until my doctor said maybe I should try it. Oh my goodness. Why didn’t he suggest this sooner?!! It works fantastic. Because it forces you to sit in an upright position and not slouch it relieves the pressure on the lower back and shoulder blades. While my pain is not completely gone it has gotten better and will probably continue to improve the longer I use the chair. This chair works if you sit properly. While everyone has different issues and different pain who knows if it will work for you but it did for me. A visible difference the very first day. Try it! You might just be amazed.

Instant relief for SI joint pain.
First off, all of these 1 star reviews with pictures...completely misleading. Half of them don't have the ball inflated all the way, the other half put the back rest on backwards! lol YOU HAVE TO AIR THE BALL UP SLOWLY. Once it's at room temp, stretch the ball material away, so the sides aren't sticking together. Inflate as much as it will go, YES IT WILL LOOK SMALL! Wait about 24 hours, release about 50% of the air, and refill again. This time you'll notice that it's gotten a lot bigger. If it still doesn't fit like the photos show, make sure your back rest is facing the right way. This material can take a while to stretch out. Even if you choose to not read the instructions, the assembly is incredibly easy. At first, I was afraid that it would be too low, however if you follow the instructions on properly inflating the ball, it's actually at a perfect height for my desk. Im 5'4" When seated, whether I'm more toward the front or up against the backrest, I immediately notice a difference in my posture. I have had an out-of-place SI joint and constant spine problems for years now. If you sit at a desk all day, this really helps to alleviate any pressure on your sacroiliac joints, along with the sacrum itself.

Perfect Chair for my Lower Back Herniated Disc!
This chair is fantastic and perfect for my job. I have a herniated disc at L4/L5, which I've been dealing with for 3 years. I've tried everything for pain management with no long-term success, and I'm not a candidate for surgery, so I decided to buy this chair with the hopes that it would help strengthen my back during the day. I have a desk job, but do get up at least every hour to walk around a bit. It is so incredibly comfortable and stable! I make sure to not use the backrest and sit up very straight to get the most out of the ball. I waited to write this review about a month after I purchased. The first day, because it was so comfortable, I sat on it for nearly 6 hours and came home in pain! Don't get me wrong, this is NOT a bad thing - this is a good thing! This means it works - it does what it's supposed to do - strengthens your core and those muscles along your spine. If you're unsure, think no more - YOU MUST BUY THIS CHAIR!! When you put it together, the ball will make the whole chair look really low, and I was worried it would be too short for my desk, but it was the perfect height. My desk at work is tall, and our monitors are elevated even more - I would say you're probably safe to buy this for your desk, as I believe mine is higher than typical desks. My advice to others - 1. There are only two wheels with brakes on them - if you're like me, you roll around to different parts of your desk all day. You should put those wheels on the back, so you don't accidentally put the brakes down with your heels. 2. Pump that ball up as much as it will go! You want it to be really full and firm. 3. Start off sitting in the chair for 2-3 hours per day, then slowly move up in hour increments so you build up your muscles and don't end up hurting your back like I did! Example: Monday & Tuesday, sit for 2-3 hours. Wednesday & Thursday, sit for 3-4 hours. Friday and next Monday, sit for 4-5 hours, etc. You will not regret buying this chair. I'm so happy I did!
