I put this little bastard on more so that no one would steal my Harley Davidson Hitch plug from the receiver. Worked great for a while but then at some point the rubber cover on the lock wore off and there was no protection for the lock. Over the winter the lock got corroded inside and I could no longer get the damn key into the keyhole. I tried and tried. Wouldn't go in. My buddy told me if he put some hair around it I could probably get it in but I didn't think that would help so I told him thanks anyways. Bonus though is I got a chance to use my sawzall to cut the little bastard off... Hindsight 20/20... No one wants that Harley Davidson plug anywho!!! Keep your hole covered!!!

This product seems to exemplify the Master Lock reputation for quality. It is heavy, strong, and the locking mechanism seems to work easily and soundly. I have seen the reviews indicating that the lock and / or the key seem weak but I did not experience that at all. The rubber cover over the key entry seems to adequately protect. I guess time will tell but as of this time it is a quality product that I would recommend.

I like this lock but it must be treated with much love. Lubricating this lock too much is a good practice. My lock was impossible to open with the key. I put as much lube as possible on the lock and let it soak for many hours but still no luck opening it. Finally, I had to take a drill to it and removed it within a couple minutes. It is a good lock but you must keep it well lubed. I lubed the lock, but obviously not often enough. I don't think this is unique to this lock because after researching similar locks I found that all have the same seizing up problem if not properly cared for. Master Lock did honor their warranty and sent me a new lock within 4 days after I contacted them.

My last receiver lock seemed susceptible to theft (I KNOW!). It was too long for the receiver and loose. I hated that the key was inserted parallel to the bumper which meant getting down to try and find the keyhole. That's all corrected with this Master Lock. It almost looked too short to fit the receiver of my Ford F-150 FX4 BUT there's about 1/4" to spare so it'd be difficult to tamper with. The lock is very smooth and I like the waterproof cover that fits tight. Oh - the pin is tight too so no clanking. I'm upgrading all the security for the trailer and know that this is one more hurdle a thief will have to manage. I'd buy it again in a New York Minute but hopefully I won't have to. ;-)

Already had one for my other tow vehicle and have had it for about 5 years. I got another one for my new additional tow vehicle because of the quality this is. Absolutely love the stainless steel lock and have never had an issue with it. I use this for my boat trailer and we have a lot of hard water. I was worried when I purchased my first one if it would be okay...absolutely!! Key works smoothly and never an issue removing the lock. If your in the market for a great lock look no further.

This is a hefty and secure lock. Works perfectly and I like the added touch of the rubber cap around the key hole to protect it from getting gunk and debris in it. Only issue was the packaging it was a real pain in the butt to get one of the twisted wires undone to get the cardboard backing off and then subsequently the keys. I had to use a pair of super sharp scissors to cut the metal ties.

Contrary to other reviews, I do not see that these are keyed the same. I've owned two and the keys do not open one another. I lost the key to the first one during a cross-country move and ordered a second to a) test the key in case it worked and b) replace the one I was going to have to cut off if the key didn't work. It made it a couple thousand miles with a 10K hitch mount and a trailer that exceeded the rating. Cutting it off was no small task, as it is plenty long to clear my bulky Class III receiver, but not so long that I had a plethora of exposed surface area on which to cut. It took me at least 15 minutes with a high quality reciprocating saw and new metal blade, encumbered only by the awkward workspace inherent to a frame-mounted hitch. My one knock on this product is that it rusts...heavily. But I have experienced the same problem on every hitch pin and lock I've ever owned that has been exposed to salty winter roads by necessity or laziness on my part for not removing it between every use. No stars lost. I shopped for alternatives to see if there was a better option. Looking well beyond the products offered on Amazon, this item frequented the best reviews of many retailers I found. I recommend it.

Quick Review: Buy this, for $15 it'll keep your expensive hitch from taking off in the middle of the night. Long Review: I got this lock to make sure my adjustable drop hitch wouldn't walk off. It is more than long enough to fit through my receiver. I have a 2003 Dodge Ram 1500. I can't be sure but it seems like the reviews that say this is too short are talking about

I recently upgraded my receiver hitch and wanted to protect my investment by purchasing a quality lock. After researching different locks and reading all the reviews, I settled on the Master Lock 1469DAT. It fit my F-150 receiver with room to spare. Some reviews have noted issues with the O-ring and lock not opening or closing easily. When I received this lock, I brushed a thin coat of bearing grease on the inside of the lock including the locking cam and O-ring which greatly increased the locking ease of the lock. During this time, I found that the key needs to be in the lock for the locking cam to release and engage the end of the shaft. This was confirmed in the instructions which also said that the lock will engage the shaft with a positive "click" which then allows the key to be pulled out of the locking end. Overall, I like the anti-theft design of the lock which doesn't make it easy for a hammer, pipe or prybar to be used to bend or break either end of the lock off while on your receiver. No lock is perfect but I didn't read anywhere on the internet where this lock had been easily compromised. As with all locks, with enough time and opportunity, any lock can be compromised. Hopefully, this lock won't make it easy. 7/2011 Update: I bought a second lock to use on my Bulldog hitch. Other than a few 1/4" shaft locks that are easily broken off with a hammer, I thought I would use this lock. I drill out the 1/4" hole to 5/8" and slipped this lock in the new hole. It prevents the coller from sliding past the hole and unlocking the receiver ball. I bought this longer shafted lock to prevent a prybar from gaining purchase between the lock and the hitch. Drilling out the hole was no easy task but now that I have the this second lock in place, I feel a heck of a lot more confident that my trailer won't be an easy target.

3-year update. This receiver hitch lock is still in use (year around) and looks nearly as good as new despite exposure to Minnesota road salt throughout the winters. It looks a heck of a lot better than the receiver & hitch it's securing. The little rubber cap that closes over the lock key hole gave out about a year back, but it didn't really prevent the lock from getting a bit gritty anyway, since it was never water proof to begin with. I spray the locking mechanism with Tri Flow or similar a couple times a year and have had no problems whatsoever. Throughout the winter I keep my hitch secured, summer is a Yakima bike rack. Neither have been stolen. Logistically - the end of the pin is tapered to a dull point and slides easily through the receiver's lock pin openings when the receiver and hitch are lined up. The lock snaps into place with or without the key in the unlocked position. It works perfectly on a Tahoe, where the RV-type trailer power couple sits relatively close to the receiver and at times obstructs longer receiver pins. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one if I needed to. Previous 2012 review: I don't need to do a long review to convey the basics that this pin works perfectly to secure your hitch to the receiver. There's a little anodized flare, and a decent little rubber cap to keep the grit out of the lock mechanism and it's stainless steel to boot! Nice quality item.
