This time switch has been switching our in-ground pool pump off and on, daily, May to mid-September for four summer seasons. The first two winters, we removed the unit from its housing and took it inside. Recently we've kept it outside, without power on the circuit, because we now leave the pump outside all winter and we bump the pump motor once or twice in the off-season (when the temperature is above freezing and the intake to the pump is open so that the pump won't create suction on the winterized pool). I especially like the manual on-off switch that lets us bypass the time settings, because it comes in so handy when back washing the filter, pumping out rainwater and, as said, bumping the motor in winter. As long as the circuit is active, the time switch will keep accurate time, even when you're using the on-off switch in manual mode. But it's mechanically timed so you have to reset it if there's a local power failure, or in the spring (we keep the circuit off in the winter except when bumping the pump motor). Concerning the timer -- there is only one Off and one On setting for every 24 hours. The on & off switches are mechanically adjustable, so we can run the pool pump, say, 20 hours a day when we first open the pool and then set it back to, say 16 or 12 hours a day, later. The switches are designed to be tightened down with a thumbscrew. I normally tweak the screw down just a little bit harder by gently turning it an additional quarter-turn with needlenose pliers. Offhand, I would say that you could set it to a 23 or 23-1/2 hour On or Off cycle, if you only want to activate or deactivate for a short time. But not much more than that. Mechanically. it's limited in the switches (think of them as cams) that require a degree of travel in order to turn on or off. In other words, don't expect to be able to set them to go Off then On again after 1 or 2 minutes. But applications that would require such timing are very, very rare. If you don't have basic electrical skills, hire an electrician to install it. If you plan to install this automated switch anywhere near a swimming pool, you may want to use a GFI circuit. Ours is 25 feet away from the pool and behind an 8 foot wooden fence, with nothing but plastic pipe between the pump and the pool, so we use a traditional circuit breaker. Finally, the time switch comes with a metal box. We mounted ours on a brick wall where there is no back-splash from the rain. All of our cable penetrations come through the bottom of the box and we use cable clamps (although not rain-tight) where the wires enter. With this setup, I have never seen a drop of water inside the box. There are gaskets where the hinged door closes on the box. Naturally, the box has been mounted outdoors all of these four years. There is a small degree of corrosion but, so far, not nearly enough to warrant concern of a rust-through. I expect this metal housing to last another four years, or even more. But the manufacturer would do well by applying a little extra paint. BOTTOM LINE: Nothing lasts forever; especially when exposed to the elements. This timer switch has held up very well. It shows no sign of failing in the near future. And even if it does, it has already paid for itself.

The timer gears went out on my old 23 year old timer due to the housing corroding and letting moisture into the timer box. So, rather than just replace the gears, I decided to replace the entire box. I just needed to rewire back to the main breakers and to my Intellichlor unit. I know this is a mechanical unit, but it only manages my pool and I manually vacuum the pool as needed, so there was no need for me to purchase one of the newer all automated units. Besides, it's just more things that can go wrong or short out. :-) *If you are not comfortable around electricity, especially 220v I would get someone to install the entire unit for you.

If you have any heavy duty AC electrical application or appliances that needs to be on a set daily schedule, then a simple to use/set up timer could be for you. My parents have a residential hotel with a common use kitchen. Since local regulations don't allow the use of a gas stove, an electrical stove top is the only option. To keep with safety in mind, an electrical appliance timer was installed over 30 years ago to make sure a unwatched pot didn't catch fire overnight. Fast forward to June 2018, the timer finally stopped working and needed to be replaced. I thought, surely these would no longer be available as everything is digital these days. Well, I was excited to find an exact replacement. This made replacing the old one a snap! So if you have an application that works fine with analog tech, then this Imtermatic timer is the ticket. PROS: simple to operate and relatively easy to install. Can handle high amperage devices. No need to get an IT consultant to learn how to use it. Inexpensive. CONS: unit can be a little smaller. OVERALL: still has its place in this digital world

Installed this to automatically turn our pool pump off and on at regular intervals even wehn were are out of town or forget etc. The switch works like a champ. The mechanism is solid and I don't see much that could go wrong with this thing. The wiring diagram is pretty straight forward and setting up the on/off cycles is basically self explainatory. We've been using the switch for about 6 months now and the only gripe I can come up with is that one of the on/off tabs that flip the switch came loose once. Becasue it was loose the switch did not turn off once, but I popped the box open and tightened the thumb screw on the little tab and all was well again. Now I check it every so often just to be sure the thumb screws are still tight, but I have not found any reoccurance of that problem. I recommend this product.

This proves that simpler is almost always better! After our brand new, fancy digital programmable pool timer stopped working just two months after our electrician installed it (first the timer function wouldn't work so we had to turn it on/off manually, and then the manual switch just died), he recommended we purchase this one. We also purchased two additional switch trippers so we can set up an additional block of time for the pump to come on/off. It works perfectly!

I gave this product a scathing review two days ago and turned out the reason it didn't work was that when I spliced the jumper wires from the unit to the pump leads in my electrical panel, they didn't make contact because the panel leads were stranded #10 wire and the jumper wire I used was solid #10 wire. When I discovered my error, I soldered the leads together and put shrink wrap over the joints and taped it, for good measure. The thing I like about this timer is that it comes in a weatherproof steel case and is ready to mount to the wall. (Some of these timers require that you purchase the enclosure separately) I used it on a second well pump and it works good and I now have a reliable supply of water without having to manually switch the DPST breaker in the main panel.

Installed easily and has been doing a good job running our pool pump so far this summer. Helps save a tremendous amount of $$$ as we are often away from home but by running this a couple hours in the morning and then again at night our pool has remained crystal clear and always ready for use! Note: you do have to purchase an extra set of timer triggers to run two time periods per day. It only comes with one set but this timer is well worth the money invested.

I bought a plug in pool timer last year for $35 and it lasted 1 season and had i had a few issues with it. I spent $42 on this and it is Night and Day. I don't have to touch it and i know it is working. I had a light switched wired to my pool from the garage. I took the light switch out and put this in it's place. I'll just shut the breaker off turning the winter now instead of the light switch. When i want to run pump longer or at a different time because i'm shocking it then i just override it. The override will just go back to it's normal shot off time. Setting the time is easy too. I would buy it again in a heartbeat if i had to.

Perfect. Works great. I paired this up with 12/3 wire to power my 2 hp pool pump and couldn't be happier. At 17 amps, the pump makes for nasty power bills during the summer. Having this set at 8 hours per day keeps the pool clean and the power bill down. We've had some ROUGH storms this spring/summer and not a drop of water has gotten into the box. It's built exceptionally well and works exactly as it should.

I've had this model timer for almost 30 years for the pool pump. When the clock motor finally died (great long life), I knew that it would be easy to replace the "guts". This seller had a price a fraction of what the Intermatic site was charging. It arrived quickly and was installed in less than 10 minutes. I highly recommend Intermatic timers for critical applications (hot water, pool, etc) and highly recommend this seller for the best prices for a great product.
