I bought two pairs of these pants for my husband for work. He's a professional gardener, so he needs pants that are durable enough to hold up to dirt, snags, and all sorts of rough use while also allowing him to have a good range of motion and flexibility. These pants seem like they will do the job. He has not worn them to work yet because it is the off season for him, but the material seems much more durable than his other work pants that kept ripping. As the person who has spent countless hours patching and repatching his work pants, sometimes on a weekly basis, extra durable fabric is a must, and the reinforced knees (mid-thigh to mid-calf) are a wonderful, added bonus (a gift to myself, really). He also was able to sit, bend, kneel, and squat comfortable in them. The legs and hip areas were loose enough for comfort and range of motion, while the waist (38) fit perfectly. I can't really comment on the fit of the waist compared to other pants because he has lost 25 lbs since we bought his last pair of pants in a different brand, so I had no idea what size he was when I ordered; I just bought a couple different sizes based on my best guess. They seemed a bit long when he first tried them on (he is 6' 3", and I ordered the 36" length, his normal pants length), but the length was perfect when he had his work boots on. For color, I bought one pair in black and the other in loden. They are both nice colors that seem perfect for hiding dirt stains. I have to return the loden because it is too big (size 40), but I will replace it with one in the same color. UPDATE 4/11/2018: Since I left my first review, I have ordered four more pairs of these pants because they are so comfortable and durable. He now works on a landscaping crew that gets contracts fixing people' yards after the electric company has dug them up, so he's hauling a lot of dirt and often gets on his hands and knees installing sod. He also sometimes works with the tree crews to clean up brush, so his clothes are often getting snagged by tree branches and sticks as well. He only has six pairs of these pants, so each one has been worn about once a week (sometimes more) for over a year now, and they're barely showing wear. There are a some tiny spots on each pair where the fabric looks a tiny bit frayed or thinner than the surrounding fabric, but nothing worth getting my sewing machine out yet. Most of the spots are on the usual areas, like the hem or on the double knees (still my favorite feature). Some areas of the pants are a bit faded (knees, mostly), but that's the least of our concerns. He says the pants have been very comfortable in all aspects of his job, though they do get hot during the summer, but he figures he's going to be hot regardless while working in the sun. In the winter, he wears a pair of long underwear from Eddie Bauer underneath for extra warmth. As the person who does the laundry, I can also say that they come pretty clean from the wash as well, without much effort on my part. I use about 2/3-3/4 of a cap of laundry detergent (versus half a cap for a normal load), and I don't fill the washer up as much as I normally would. I do give them a pre-wash sometimes if they're literally caked in dried up mud, but that's it. BTW, for those wondering about the "Dirt Drop Vents" on the double knees, when you're working in dirt on your knees, small dirt particles can work their way through the fabric and get trapped between the fabrics of the double knees, so it's good to have the small slit of fabric to get out any trapped particles. Just make sure to shake them out before washing, or else you end up with mulch and small twigs in the lint catcher of your dryer...

Great pants. Tough as hell. I’ve been wearing them (Riggs) for about 5 years and they are my favorite pants. I usually have about 8 or 9 pairs (pants and shorts) at a given time. They last me about 2 years before I wear holes in them (usually the edge of the front left pocket and the front of the thighs above the double knee). I’m a fabricator and these pants get exposed to a lot (welding, grinding, sparks, hot and sharp metal) but the hold strong. Toward the end of their lifespan, when they are soft and broken in, they are hard to get rid of. My wife hates that I still wear them when they have holes in em. Hard to let go.

Amazing pants, where do I start. One year ago I bought a pair of these pants at a local retailer because I really liked the pockets and that everything on them seemed reinforced. Even the inside of the front pockets are thicker than most other pairs of pants that I own. Over the last year, they were my go to pants. I pretty much wear them all the time, even if they are dirty because of the convenience these pants bring with the large cargo pocket and their little satellite pockets on the right sided cargo pocket. The thick leather (or leather like) reinforcement on the front right pocket keeps my expensive pocket knifes right there without the possibility of them falling out or losing them. The knees are reinforced, and have openings at the bottom so that you can slip padding up in if necessary. They have a hammer loop on the side. The back pockets have some kinda super duty reinforcement fabric that lines the pockets, and the tops of the back pockets are heavily reinforced. The cargo pockets are large enough that I can put a check book sized wallet in them and still close the pocket flap to secure the pocket's contents. I have roofed in them, cut down trees in them, crawled through dirt and sharp rocks in them, climbed mature oak trees for trimming purposes in them, walked through South Texas briers in them, did a lot of attic work in them, and pretty much everything else in between. I have accidentally cut them, and the cut never got bigger, just frayed a little bit. These pants are pretty much bomb proof as they say. I own many different high quality cargo pants, but these outperform them all. The reason I bought these was that, although still functional as the day I bought them, my wife started getting embarrassed to go out in public with me because of the way they were looking (paint, oil, epoxy stains, rips). Like I said, I wear them if I am just going out, or going to do some pretty gnarly work. I just hope that Wrangler continues to make these pants in the future, as I don't see myself wearing anything else. They are very comfortable and not too heavy of a fabric that rubs you the wrong way. They are roomy enough for air circulation, and awkward positions. If you get them, you will not be disappointed

Buy a size or two more at the waist. I was happy that I did...they shrink in the wash. Size, material, & Fit: as noted above, buyer beware, they shrink. Heavy canvas like material. I thought I would not like the feel, however, the loose fit of the legs makes them fully comfortable. Material is, as noted, heavy and I'll add duty to that. While clearing out a wind-damaged tree I had the misfortune of one of the branches popping me in the leg after cutting it. The branch tore through the pant leg but leaving only a quarter size hole. I left the hole alone (the company claims the material is rip-stop) and have worn/washed them a handful of times and the rip/material has held. Recommendations: To the company: more pockets please. I guess I'm more used to my coveralls which have leg pockets everywhere. To the buyer: worthy pants. Unlike coveralls, you can use a belt, belt pouches, etc with the pants. Good cargo pockets in the legs and the pockets are reinforced so I'm comfortable throwing in a handful of nails/screws in the pocket. I'd like to see a pocket for hand-pruners/fencing multi-tool pliers. Overall, comfortable all day; resists brambles when wading into them while hunting; the cost is somewhat reasonable as a result. I looked for the cheapest color to cut cost

First thing you need to know is that these run VERY small. Order a size bigger right off the bat. Now, I'm 6'-1" tall and weigh about 290 lbs and have no a$$..lol. sorta football shaped I guess. Leg length seems ok because these pants tend to ride a little higher than most jeans I wear. The legs feel a tad stiff but they are new and haven't been washed yet. I could see these breaking in very nicely. Seems seem heavy duty as well as the double material at the knees. I like the leather patch at the pocket but it would be better with it on both front pockets for right and left handed people. Or, like me who wears a tape measure on my left side even though I'm right handed. My belt is as wide as the loops which would normally be great. But, with the one front loop so close to the fly, my belt has to ride off center a bit which is weird. But,for the price, the quality is very good so far. If these perform better or worse as they get used I'll pop back in here and let the world know. I think these are a solid buy for work wear as well as outdoor wear.

Having only worn these once, here is my initial impression. These seem like a very well made pant. The material weight is just right. Not too stiff and not too flimsy. I can be tough on pants working around our ranch. There is always a wire fence, tree branch, or piece of equipment that wants to snag my clothes. These seem like they will be up to the challenge. There is plenty of leg room and the crotch length is not the kind that hangs down to ones knees as in some pants. These fit my 6' 190 lb. frame like a custom pant. The pocket depth is nice and deep and they are also plentiful. The greatest unexpected attribute is the extra "leather" piece added at the corner of the right front pocket-exactly where us guys clip their folding pocket knife and in my case also a tiny flashlight. This location always gets extra wear and tear due to the clips rubbing there. I will be curious how this holds up to long term use. I'm glad to have found these. Long term use will determine if they are as great as the initial finding. Hope this helps.

They run Smaller than their Competitors However? One size bigger did the trick. These are tough But? They get visibly dirty and you can’t brush it off like Jeans can but? Pockets galore for almost everything you need Canvas type material is pretty tough. Not as kumfy as Worn in blue jeans but reasonable for rugged work wear. What used to tear up my Jeans? Just scars the surface of these. I like them. I also appreciate not having to replace them as often as jeans as well.

I purchased my first pair of these pants last year, and I now own 8 pairs of these pants. They feel like heavy canvas when you first take them out of the package, but after washing them and wearing them, they are very comfortable. The pockets are all well placed and accessible, and combine cargo and carpenter pockets. The hammer loop is a bit small, but it works great for hanging keys on it with a D-ring. The leather patch at the pocket is great for putting a tape measure on and it keeps the pocket from ripping. The knees are reinforced with an extra piece of material, so they hold up very well. They are made out of a rip-stop fabric, that breathes very well. I haven't yet torn a single pair, and I've really put them through some rough situations, like construction work and demolition. They even hold up to hiking through dense underbrush that would destroy a regular pair of pants or jeans. I would recommend them if you are looking for a good cargo/carpenter style of pants. They hold up better than Dickies, and are better than the Carhartt pants that I also own. They also come in more colors than either of the other 2 brands.

I think these pants are a great investment. I like the thigh pockets and tough pants with these pockets are very hard to find. Riggs also are made with rip stop material (like army summer pants) which makes a hole in the pants stop after a short distance so you don't get large tears in the pants. They are also made very similar to army pants with the extra layers over the knees, reinforced stitching around everything with rivets and triple stitching at stress points. There is also leather reinforcement over the right front pocket for those that constantly use a knife or similar article from that pocket. I've tried many other pants that look similar but have found no other that offers the usability and quality of these.

Like most people in the trades, you try every different type of work wear available from cheap to expensive. I would consider these more towards the low to mid priced ranged at $38. For the price so far they have held up to everything I put them through, and still look nice enough to wear in a business casual office environment. I am a building maintenance manager and do everything from working on chillers and boilers to attending meetings, and these have proven up to the task. These run true to size of there blue jeans (which I also wear) but are cooler than jeans in the summer, and if you get them dirty its very easy to brush them clean. ;They are a little stiff and "loud" when you walk when new, but that goes away after a couple of washings. The pockets are big, deep, and have snaps (way better than buttons) to keep everything you put in them from getting lost. I have crawled through attics, crawl spaces, and tunnels, and everything is still there when I come out. They have plenty of room for movement, so squatting and bending is not restricted. The knees are reinforced and I expect they should hold up fine. Overall if I can get a years worth of wear out of these, I would consider them well worth the money.
