These work great and First Alert has been making safety equipment for a long time so it's a good trusted name. I noticed people complaining about the fit being loose and I must say READ THE INSTRUCTIONS. There is a locking pin to lock the alarm to the mount. I included pictures of the locking pin and where to place the pin in the alarm. Be sure to use some canned air every so often to clean off dust and these should last the 10 years they're supposed to. Highly recommended for the price and quality!

These are great. Super easy to install and they work great too. I set one off in my kitchen roasting corn today and it has a good shrill beep. Ha. Loved that it turned itself right off when I started a fan so I didn't have to climb a step stool. Good product I will buy again.

I bought three of these little guys to replace three older ones in our house. They were easy to install in the places where the old ones were as the base is the same size. The beauty of these is the base installs separately from the unit making it easier to put them up and take them down. The battery compartment is a little different, but once I figured out how to get it in (the positive and negative symbols are a little hard to read) it was easy. They don't feel as substantial as the units they replaced, but the design is definitely more contemporary (if that matters for a smoke detector). The really important thing, of course, is that they detect smoke and I can tell you these do since we've already set the one in the kitchen off while (over) cooking something.

We've been using the first alert smoke alarm in every house we've owned. We know they work because some were turned on by oopses. One an oven fire which we opened we door with fire extinguisher in hand. One when fireplace chimney cover screen got clogged. And one alarmed it's last when the house got6 hit by lightning, it was 115vac with battery backup. Got fried big time but it worked for a few seconds before it blew off the ceiling. This house we've been in for 17 years. We have two alarms as split floor plan So one above master door and other in hallway between other two bedrooms. Both got replaced in 2010. Still working but painting required we remove them and as they were 7 years old we simply replaced them. We have now replaced both here in 2019. One started to alarm even when no smoke was present so we again replaced both for safety reasons. Were worth $23 every so often. Probably could have gotten one replaced under the 10 year warranty but are so satisfied with the product there was no good reason to make waves. Nice part is that First Alert makes their mount brackets so that they align with many different screw patterns from other alarms. So loosen screws, twist base off, twist new base on and twist alarm in place. The alarm also comes with mounting screws and a battery. No reason to die in a fire when one of these things only costs as little as $11.50.

we have had nothing but trouble with our smoke alarms new old kidde first alert ... all a pain except this one thus far it works when its tested but the only one that hasn't went off for no apparent reason.

Clean, simple, good looking. Easy access to battery compartment which is handy. It seems to work well (ran a few basic tests) hope I never need to know in a real situation, but, I feel, should a real fire develop, this will do the trick and sound the alarm. The light seems weak I have it mounted at the top of my staircase. I'm not really relying on it ('to light the way') in a dense, smoke filled room we've practiced egressing blind folded anyways.

So far these are the best detectors I have bought. I like the red flashing light, as it indicates its still working. The replaceable battery makes it seem like a no brainer. I have bought other systems that failed from First Alert, however these seem to be working well. No false alarms from any of the 7 I have put up, and they don't go off with someone smoking a cigarette around either.

Nice features from First Alert...Swing out battery holder that keeps the battery handy when not in use, 'Silence/Test' button for those "baking moments". Handy but somewhat confusing installation sheet on "locking" battery compartment. Comes with mounting screws & plastic anchors, multi language install/instruction/what to do in a fire sheet. I'll be using this in a travel trailer so taking the battery out of service without removing it is a great feature.

After fighting with the battery compartment and finally googling a video on how to put it in (and feeling like a moron because it was seriously way easier than I made it out to be), I hooked up these fire alarms and gave them a test. They are nice and loud, easy to affix to a ceiling or wall and unobtrusive enough. Definitely feel safer and confident that they will work well if I ever need to be alerted.

This is the nicest smoke detector I've ever purchased. It is heavy duty and I love the way the battery compartment opens with just the push of a lever. it takes one 9 V battery which was included. That right there saved me a few dollars. It is very sensitive and I had to move it to the far side of my kitchen because it would go off every time I opened my oven door. it is not as loud and screeching as some others I have had but it is loud enough. To silence it you just push a button. Mounting was fairly simple. I unscrewed the old one from the ceiling and screwed this one in. I did have to drill one new screw hole since the new ones didn't match up with the old.
