I've put chains on fire engines a few times, and hated it each time. They're heavy, cold, filthy, and a lot of strength required. That in mind, I really hoped these "chains" would be a better experience. They're really quite good! We watched the video and read the instructions yesterday, but I forgot about sweeping the chains around the inside of the tires. So don't forget that part. Here is some other advice which, especially if you're not a chain expert, will be almost sure to pay big dividends: 1) If you practiced putting them on once, DO IT AGAIN! I promise you'll learn a couple of tricks. We practiced putting them on, driving around a bit, taking them off, putting them on again, driving around, and taking them off. Each time we got better. 2) Taking them off without getting them hooked on the suspension takes a bit of practice, and following idea#1 will help A LOT! 3) put a pair of gloves in with the chains, 4) put a pair of knee pads with the chains and 5) put one chain in a bag or something. Untangling these took several minutes which, in wet or miserable snow conditions, would have seemed much, much longer.

I own a 2WD Ford Ranger. I don't have a locker installed. I slapped some BFG's on and felt like I could drive up a mountain. I had been dreaming of going and seeing Yosemite in the snow and on 12/23 I loaded up the Ranger and went for it. We stopped in Oakhurst and went grocery shopping and took just long enough for a storm the start right as we headed into the park. I had never driven in snow and a few miles up the road from Oakhurst the snow started coming down hard. For practicality the chains get a 10/10. The leads and hooks are very indentifiable and relatively easy to get to on the inside section. I had never put chains on a car before so it wasn't fast at all but fortunately we figured it out. As we approached the entrance to the park via the Wawona road the snow came down hard. With the combination of new all-terrain tires and the chains I was kept safe. It was a very long drive from Oakhurst to our cabin inside the park and I kept traction the entire time. I kept these on for 5 days and 4 nights and had little to no loss of traction going up and down the grades and throughout the park roads which were completely iced over for a couple of days. I'm really thankful I had these as the chain requirements were up the entire time I was in Yosemite. Post trip I noticed some surface-rust build-up on the rings and possibly some rings missing. Still they're reusable and I'll be keeping them for my next snow trip. Very well made and easy to use. They kept me safe and prevented me from sliding off those windy terrifying roads in the park and that's all I can ask for. I would buy this product again.

Not my first set of Z "chains"/cables.. I just got a Gen 2 Dodge Ram and bought these since I didnt have any to fit these size tires. Had a little "unexpected" snow that ended up being deeper than expected. Needed to go check on my daughter who lives 22 miles way. The snow got (as my grandfather would say..) "slick as snot on a doorknob", and my BFG tires no longer got good traction. I pulled over and put these on.. Made the trip out and back and never slid or spun a tire. I will make mention, 2 years ago we got a bad snow/ice event, it was pretty deep.. I was running a K5 Bazer with 31" tires and was running the Z "chain"/cable on the Blazer at the time.. They worked great then too, however after pulling about 3 different vehicles out of ditches I broke one of the cables. I dont run these and put anyone out anymore, however for "regular" driving these should last many many years. Ive run them 5-6 snow seasons, multiple times each season and never had a moments problem. If you get on the road where snow is not very thick (1/2"?) or where the road has been scraped well enough you can see pavement, the ride will be a little rough.. Its the nature of the device but it bears mention so you wont think something is wrong. Once you get into some snow that is a little thick (3-4") the ride is smooth. Agn, the nature of the device. Still way better than dealing with full blown snow CHAINS!

I have always had 4 wheel drives up until this year. So, I purchased these just in case. I had just put them in my truck and what do you know? An ice storm hit while I was at work. By the time I hit the road, ice was falling. My Ford 150 was doing pretty well, as many other cars and trucks, 4 Wheel drives included, were in ditches, and there were accidents everywhere. One mile from my house however, my good luck ended. There was a very large hill, and it was seemingly impossible to climb. I was stuck halfway from the top and could go neither forward nor backwards! I could only go sideways towards a large ditch. When I stepped out to put on the cables, it was literally like ice skating. I had to hold on to the truck to move around and was stuck right in the middle of the road. I put the cables on. I had no idea what would happen next. Would they work? Would they stay on? Who knew? What happened? I simply drove off. Went right up the hill, down the next, stopped at the stop sign at the bottom of a steep decline, and pulled into my driveway. Just like that. Amazing! I will repeat what others have said: read the directions. Try to put them on when you are not in an emergency situation. Have something for your knees. Great product!

Hands down the best snow cables I've owned. The only caveat is that they do seem to come "tangled" by the manufacturer packaging. I read that before in some of the other reviews and it did take me about 10 minutes to untangle them the first time. I would highly recommend taking them out of the box and installing one (or both) before you are in the snow. That being said, they are very easy to install, and the thing I like most is that you do not have to lay them out and drive your vehicle over them to install. You can install them without moving your car! Trust me, not having to get back in your car (and knocking the slush and snow off your boots, or taking them off so you don't get it all over the floor board) and moving forward 2-3 feet then installing the chains and getting back in the car (and knocking the slush and snow off your boots, or taking them off so you don't get it all over the floor board) a second time is nice! They fit perfect, remain "tight" and don't make excessive noise. Amazon said these do not fit my 2017 Honda Pilot 245/60R18, but the manufacturer and my owner's manual both recommend ZT735, and they I can confirm that they indeed do.

I've put on the old style chains years ago, so was blown away with the simplicity of these cables. In a snow storm in Mammoth, Ca when the AWD couldn't even get out of the driveway. Took about 15 minutes to clear away snow and with a bit of tugging the cables were on. I only put them on the front wheels, but that's all it took. We were out of the driveway in no time and headed down the road. They ride much smoother than the old chains did and it was easy to remove when we hit plowed open road. My daughter who helped me put them on said she used them again last week and it only took her about 10 minutes to get them on. She does hang them up inside to dry out before putting them away. It is a tight fit putting them back in the box, but nothing that bad. I don't know how they will do with long term use, but for the few times we've needed them they have worked great.

I have used chains and cables on my 2006 2WD Silverado half ton, and the cables are just better for road use. I live in a mountain community that gets snow every year and traction devices are required for all 2WD vehicles. Chains are made with metal that is too soft for long term use. I had to replace them every other year because the road is just a big grinder. They are heavy, loud and give a bumpy ride. I would only use chains for off road use where maximum grip is required. I bought my first set of ZT747's in 2011, it is now 2020 and that set is still good, even the rubber tension ring and yellow clips. I use 303 Protectant on these for UV protection. I did buy spare rings and clips for just in case. The cables are used 10-12 times a year for 200-300 miles per year. Usage is on paved roads only except for 100' of gravel driveway. These cables give me good start and stopping traction, with less noise and a better ride. I purchased a 2nd set for the front tires because the snow was not the nice powder we normally get last year, it was wet, the type were a snowball instantly becomes an iceball. My rear tires were getting traction but the front tires had a mind of their own and steering was an issue. I am certain that cables on the front will give me better steering control, and increase my braking ability. Wash, dry and lightly oil the cables after use, do not abuse them and they should give you years of service.

Great product. Really easy to install. Never used chains/cables before. Got these for my wife's suv. What I will say.... Do not take for granted the simplicity of this product... You should truly practice in normal conditions first as recommended. Get the idea of how they work. You'll be glad you did. My wife and I kept putting it off, putting it off. And then the snow came. I'm out there at 2am getting these on her car in 9" of snow so she can get to work! It took me about an hour to get the first tire done. When in reality, I just kept second-guessing myself. I could have been done way earlier if I had practiced (are you getting the hint? Haha). The second tire was done in no time at all. The next time I put these on, a few days later, all together took me about 15 minutes. Happy for the purchase!

These chains make my Mazda CX-5 gt able to drive through anything! While everyone else is stuck I the snowpocolypse in Seattle I am driving around with no problems on any road. Best purchase I’ve ever made. Also easy to put on, only took a few minutes and you’re ready to go anywhere.

Bought prior to going to Mammoth as the frequent snow fall this year would probably necessitate their use. Be sure to do a trial fitting before actual snow conditions as I discovered couple tricks to facilitate installation and did not freeze my but off in the process. When time came to use the cables they worked like a charm. Low noise and pretty smooth riding. Gripped well in loose and hard packed snow. Definitely well worth the extra cost versus actual chains which are very rough riding(past experience). Would recommend rinsing off the cables after use and dousing with WD-40 to keep from rusing.
