Dee Zee Heavy weight Tailgate is made from a different material than the bed mat. The Tailgate is much more durable material. It is a different color and texture. I like others did not want to screw into my 2016 F150 Tailgate. I used the heavy duty 3M Velcro tape. I should have video the install as I could not find any that showed how to install with this Method. I put the hook piece of tape across the top of the width of the tailgate right under the plastic cap on the paint. I first cleaned the paint with alcohol. Next I trimmed any areas that needed trimming with scissors and determined which end it would mounted on top. Clean it with alcohol and install the loop tape on the mat. I did not have to trim the mat only some areas that were rough. Once the top of the mat was attached to the tailgate I rolled the mat up and cleaned the paint and added hook and loop strips to the tailgate. Horizontally mid way and at the bottom and two veritable strips on the sides. I did this in several stages: 1st attached the remainder of hook and loop tape together. 2nd cut the strips in the length i needed & match each side & cleaned the area with Alcohol. 3rd I attached the hook side to the tailgate. All this time the mat is folded in half and being held. I cleaned the mat with alcohol where the tape will make contact. Once dry I removed the tape cover on the loop side of the tape and slowly rolled the mat down. So far, the tape is holding it. Check pics.

This is just as described I mounted it on my 2015 GMC Sierra crew cab short bed I needed to trim 2 inches off the length to get it to fit and I used 3M Fastener TB3571/TB3572 instead of the screws that came with it. (did not want to drill holes in the tailgate) and I'm happy with the purchase.

I bought this because I saw that someone installed it on a 2016 F150 and I was looking for one for my truck. So I decided to give it a shot and bought one. I didn't use the screws that came with it because I didn't want to drill a bunch of holes. So what I did was, I bought a tube of 100% silicone and use about half of the tube to glue this piece to the tailgate. This thing was a perfect fit and I'm very happy with it.

I previously purchased the DeeZee Heavyweight Bed Mat for a 5.5 foot truck bed (Dee Zee DZ87005 Heavyweight Bed Mat). While this tailgate mat does not match exactly, it is made of a similar enough rubber material that is found it to be ok. My only problem was that the box with this tailgate mat arrived a bit open (both the Amazon box and the product box). So, no surprise that when I opened it and unrolled the tailgate mat there was no bag of hardware (the 26 screws that the instructions say are needed to secure the mat to the tailgate). I decide to go a different direction as I was not thrilled with the idea of screwing into my truck's tailgate. As some fo the other reviewers mentioned on DeeZee's website, 3M marine-grade hook and eye tape (2 of 3M Fastener TB3571/TB3572 Hook/Loop Black, 1 in (25.4mm) x 10 ft (3.05m) (1 Mated Strip/Bag)) can be used to secure the mat to the tailgate. I used two packs with 2 long strips across the tailgate and than small strips between the two strips and below the second strip towards the bottom of the tailgate. The tape held the mat securely to the tailgate. Note that for a 2018 Ford F-150, you may need to trim the mat a bit-I had to cut off about an inch to get it to fit using heavy duty cutters.

I installed this mat on my tailgate when the temperature was not that hot. Once the tailgate mat gets warm it starts to buckle/warp under the heat. I recommend installing it when it's warm outside so it's more pliable and expanded. After a couple moths, the tailgate mat has minimized warping under the southern heat. Overall great product to protect your tailgate from scratches and dents. It was sized to fit perfectly, no modifications needed, just hated the fact that I had to drill holes in my new tailgate to secure.

Installed on a 2019 F150. Took about 10 minutes. No trimming no fuss. When you install be aware of couple things. I used a self tapping screw of same size to predrill holes. When installing the furnished screws be sure to not over tighten. Just snug is all you need. On the F150s as most know the tailgate is aluminum so very easy to strip. I also started from center of mat working both sides out to prevent bowing between screws. Once completely installed I removed and cleaned shavings and debris from under mat then reinstalled permanently. Some have complained the tailgate doesnt properly close after installation. As you see in the photo mine did great. Good install. Remember NOT to over tighten.

I installed this on my 2009 for f150. It’s not an exact custom fit. But it fits good with no trimming. Does require some thought before and during your install. Mainly because you have to drill holes in your tailgate. So get it right on the first try. Calls for the use of a 9/64 drill bit. I think that’s too big of a hole for the screws they provide.I went 2 sizes smaller to a 7/64. Screws are nice and tight. Lays flat, fits good and added the protection and grip that I wanted.

Billed as a universal type which usually means some alteration necessary but that is not the case with this mat. It fits perfectly on the 2015-2017 F-150 standard tailgates. Its a heavy duty protector meaning the weight alone requires mounting with screws to the tailgate. The dozen provided mounting holes are countersunk so nothing drags over the screw heads when loading/unloading. It matches nicely with the companion bed mat At almost half the price of the full sized bed mat, it's not as much value for the money - which is likely why there are no rating stars for "Value".

Well compliments the bed mat by the same manufacturer. Unlike the bed mat it does however require 8 screws (provided) to hold it in place. Installation requires only about 20 minutes. Buyer will have to figure out the proper layout of the mat on your own tailgate and drill mounting holes as appropriate. Directions give only general instructions on the process - however, it is not Rocket Science, so should not be an insurmountable issue. Protects your tailgate interior from bumps, bruises, and scrapes from any cargo you may be carrying.

Great quality & durability. It came with more screws than you need and the rubber is very thick. After installing all of the screws in the provided holes, I drilled some more where I felt extra support was needed. I saw some negative reviews about the fit on some vehicles. I found that if you just make sure to line it up well, jt fit the tailgate of my 2017 F-150 perfectly.
