Expensive compared to other gaskets, but what a very nice gasket. I installed this on my 98 F150 (4.6 liter, 8.8 rear gear) and could not have been happier with the outcome. When performing the installation, if your housing surface is clean and there are no large gouges, and if your cover is not bent or has dimples in the flange surface, then no, you should not need any sealant. Following a minor rear-end rebuild, I made sure the housing surface was nice and clean and installed the gasket with a new cover (they're pretty cheap, I highly recommend

I didn’t have to wait to drive once I installed it. I did place some sealant for extra protection, but it’s not necessary. I’m writing this review a month later and there isn’t any leaks.

Used this in a 4x4 explorer and it had not leaked or show any abnormal signs of leakage after 1k miles of driving. So far so good

Purchased this gasket again when servicing rear axle for second time. The first gasket appeared as if it would have lasted the life of the vehicle. Gasket is made well and does not leak at all.

This is very thick and built solid for a gasket. No leaks on my differential and fit perfect.
