My 2 yr old was so excited to see this puzzle. He threw a fit waiting for me to unwrap the clear plastic wrap it comes in. It actually is wrapped rather well so it took me a few minutes all the while he was trying to grab it out of my hands. He loves this puzzle. He even "pretends" with the pieces before handing them to me to use or he will put them in their slots. It is solid wood. Painted/coated very smoothly with no rough edges. Even though there aren't any knobs on the pieces that is perfectly fine. Each piece fits into a slot/hole and they fit perfectly. They are also easy to get out of the holes. My son has had so much fun with this puzzle. I would not hesitate to buy another if anything happened to this one. I highly recommend this.

I keep this and several other Melissa & Doug puzzles on our living room table and my grand kids go right to them every time they visit. They're all under the age of 4 and it's so nice to have things that are a "Yes" for them to handle when so many other things in the room are "No" things. They love to bring them to me and have me play with them and praise them as we name the shapes or objects and fit them into them into their places. Even the 1 1/2 year old can fit the pieces into their correct spaces. I've been surprised at how well the pieces have held up...they still look new.

I bought this puzzle along with the Trucks M&D puzzle and it was a big hit with my neighbor's 2 year old. Very well-made. U.S.A. mad, which is a bonus! Sturdy, solid pieces. Perfect for those active toddlers. This will hold up to anything. The colors actually bright so missing pieces can easily be found!

I cannot say enough good things about the Melissa and Doug chunky puzzles. My kids love them and so do I! They can do puzzles, play with the pieces for imaginative play, and as I just discovered recently- use them as stencils to trace and color in!

Another great Melissa and Doug puzzle for my son! I purchased this puzzle for my son when he was about 18 months, and it was a huge hit. He loved to pretend to "fix things with daddy" with the pieces. My son was premature and had some severe speech delays. His occupational therapist and speech therapist BOTH recommended these puzzles. The action of putting the puzzle together is great for the hand/eye coordination and the fat chunky pieces are easy for toddlers to grasp. Also, talking about and saying the names of the everyday items helped improve his vocabulary and speech tremendously! Melissa and Doug puzzles are made so well. My son played with his puzzles for over 3 years, and we just passed them on to my friend's 2 year old daughter. They still look like new. I owned over 12 of these puzzles and never had an issue with the paint peeling on any of them.

There is nothing to dislike about this puzzle. The high quality is exactly what I've come to expect from Melissa & Doug. My 2 year old grandson loves it and enjoys talking with Pop-Pop about each of the tools.

My 2 1/2 year old grandson LOVES this puzzle I purchased for him as a gift! He often sits and does it over and over again. We even use it as a learning tool for colors, too, as I will ask him to find the tool with the yellow handle, or the blue handle, etc. The pieces are nice and hefty--fitting in his chubby hands well and are easy to grip. He loves pretending to use them as "real tools" -- banging the hammer or pretending to screw something on his little play table. An excellent educational toy!

My daughter loves these chunky puzzles! Bought the tool one for my dad to do with my daughter. He loves teaching her the different tools and she loves learning and memorizing her puzzle! It’s a win win.

First of all, I must admit that I absolutely love Melissa and Doug products. This puzzle is another great product. I think the size is appropriate for a small child. The colors are engaging and it can be used for many different functions such as "fixing" things around the house. Here are the reasons why I ranked it high: -vibrant pictures on the tools -easy to manipulate for young hands -gender neutral colors for use by both boys and girls -tools can be used for creative play I would recommend this for young children, particularly around age 2 as an introduction to puzzles.

This puzzle does double duty. matching as a puzzle is obvious. But the pieces are thick enough and the correct sizes that toddlers think you also gave them their own tool set. Just watch the Hammer (ours was "lost" because my son kept trying to use it to really hammer things and the paint started to chip). He will even carry around the puzzle like its his own toolbox.
