A GREAT SOLUTION (DO NOT ADD SALT)
This company makes several versions of beans, in this format, including whole pinto beans, as well as refried (vegetarian) pinto beans and refried black beans. This is a GREAT product (though a bit spendy) ... Just add two and a quarter cups of boiling water. It helps to continue to apply more heat, after adding boiling water but is not absolutely necessary. THIS POUCH HAS A ZIP-LOC RE-SEAL This product has a very long shelf life and can be prepared exactly as you would a Mountanhouse(TM) or Back-Packer's Pantry(TM) freeze-dried trail meal and, I often do eat this product, all by itself, as a whole meal. This product comes in a sealed/metalized mylar/foil pouch (just like camp dinners do) ... DO NOT ADD SALT !! (There is plenty in there) ... I decided to order FOUR 8-packs of this product because I use it as a regular part of my weekly diet (much better than any canned product) and because I pack my groceries on a city-bus or a bicycle and cans are too heavy and bulky to be lugging around, on foot. This makes a great base for bean dip that your guests will rave over and I also just eat this with tortillas, as a meal in itself. Great for your pantry and GREAT FOR BACK-PACKERS and CAMPERS !! ... Light-weight and very simple to prepare. ... Just add boiling water and let it sit.

Pure and simple
I try to limit the amount of sodium I eat, and these beans contain the lowest amount that I have found. We make fajitas fairly often, and you've just got to have refried beans with them. Plus, I like the taste - just beans with a little salt. While visiting relatives, I had to use canned beans, so I got a fancy organic variety. They were awful (and expensive) with added spices (not to my liking) and added fat. With these, I can make as much or as little as I want. From now on, I will pack them with me.

Now a staple in my pantry
I live in San Antonio, Texas, where we have fabulous Mexican food on practically every corner. Soft bean and cheese tacos have been one of my family's favorite snacks and light meals for years now. We can buy lovely flour tortillas in every grocery store, but often the only choice for refried beans is the canned variety. If you've ever had them, you know they bear little resemblance to authentic refried beans. I first had dehydrated beans when a Mexican friend told me that's what many restaurants use. The idea of dehydrated beans grossed me out til I finally tried them one day. Wow! The taste and texture of restaurant refried beans in only 5 minutes! These beans are fantastic and perfect for making soft tacos. My kids are hooked. Initially, I was able to find the Mexicali Rose brand (which is delicious) in my local grocery store but now, I cannot find them consistently locally. After reading the great reviews for this Santa Fe Bean Company brand, I decided to order them. They are absolutely just as delicious as the Mexicali Rose brand! I've put them on Subscribe and Save so I never find my pantry bare of beans again. For anyone interested, here's how I make quick and easy bean and cheese tacos: Santa Fe Instant Fat Free Vegetarian Refried Beans Store bought flour tortillas shredded Fiesta blend cheese shredded lettuce and diced tomatoes Cook the beans as directed on the package. While the beans are simmering the 5 minutes, lightly brown some flour tortillas on a hot, flat griddle. (I put them immediately into a tortilla keeper so they stay warm. Tortilla Warmer 12" - Insulated Fabric Pouch by Camerons - Keeps warm for one hour after just 45 microwave seconds (Sunface)) Once the beans are done, spoon a line of beans down the middle of a tortilla, sprinkle shredded cheese on top of the beans and fold in half - taco-style. You can also put some of the shredded lettuce and diced tomatoes on top of the cheese or serve on the side, as is the case in virtually all Mexican meals. You can also substitute the cheese with Mexican rice and make bean and rice tacos, which are fabulous and filling and also make a complete protein.

Astounding Product!
Really great beans!. I like that the ingredient list is only beans and salt. The beans are really creamy and flavorful. I'm ordering a second order of 8 packages since I eat them all the time now. I've made them thin like a soup and thick and creamy for tostadas, etc. The amount of water you use makes a big difference. I don't even follow the directions, I just dump the beans into the amount of water I want and cook them a few minutes until they are my desired consistency. My favorite thing is hot white rice and some of these creamy beans or I buy the ready made tostadas and add the beans with shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, and a little cheese or you can leave out the tostada and just layer ingredients on a plate. Good low-calorie meal. Sometimes I add my favorite salsa to the beans for something different, or just a little cheese, some chili powder, etc etc. The possibilies are endless.

Always keep some around
I go camping or backpacking multiple times per year. This has become a staple of my backpack. I prepare 1/2 cup of rice, adding extra water in. When the rice is half done, I add one third of this package. Easy to fix outside in one pot. Very filling and taste great! With that amount, I usually get a meal and 1/2

You've "Bean" a Fool If You Haven't Tried These
I learned through travel to enjoy refried beans for breakfast. These are much more convenient than canned ones because you can make as big a quantity as you want, and they are fat free too! The beans are very tasty even though they are fat free. (Of course, you can add cheese, cilantro, green onions, and chopped tomatoes anyway.)

Great backpacking food!
I bought these so I can take them on my thru hike of the JMT. I paired them with flour tortillas and hot sauce packet. Voila! You have a burrito on trail! Great taste! Portion them out and pack them in individual freezer ZipLoc bags. Just add boiling water while backpacking/camping. Let it sit to cook and your done!

Amazing
For a Texas who is stranded in another country with NO decent Mexican food for thousands of miles... These things have saved my sanity. They're amazing. Who bothers with that wretched canned stuff? If you want refried beans at home, these are the only way to go. I paid as much as $10/package to ship them to the Middle East at one time, and it was worth it. I could have bought Old El Paso off the shelf locally for $2/can - but I waited for these to arrive instead. The Vegetarian version tastes the same to me as the regular version and contains only "pinto beans, salt" - while the regular version has a bunch of additives. So I get these.

Perfect beans, good texture and tatse
These are very good beans. They are just dehydrated beans and salt. They add the perfect amount of salt and I am so thankful for that. I really do not like lots of salt and these are no bother to me. These are so easy to cook. I just pour them right from the package into a glass pyrex dish. Next I add water and stir until they are mixed and look like refried beans. Then I add just a bit more water, because all this water will get absorbed into the beans as they cook and microwave for five minutes. I do stir one time in between and check in case it needs more water. These are supreme inside burrito wraps with a little Taco bell taco sauce on top and Daiya cheese. These are good to have on hand at all times. Not only are they good pantry staple, they are perfect for your camping/bug out bag and prepping needs. If you are vegan or vegetarian, you need these for your emergency stash.

How do you like them Beans?!
These beans are the best. These are the best beans. Nothing but Pinto beans and a pinch of salt. Typically come with a two year shelf life. The only Con is that once you have these beans, well, everything else is pretty nasty. These are much better than canned, or most Mexican restaurants. I've made homemade Refried beans a few times and honestly, these are better than what I could whip up myself. Healthy, filling, tasty, versatile, convenient...can't think of many other foods that fit all that. Get some and enjoy!
