I live on a farm with septic have been without a disposal for 17 years. This was about 17 years too long for my wife, so I finally decided to give this a whirl. Installation was a breeze with clear instructions and most of what you'll need (You'll need a way to keep to power and a strain relief or their pre packaged power cord kit (that comes with everything needed to plug in)) as well as the final pieces to tie into your sewer drain. If you've never had a disposal at that site you will need to think about your plan and figure two trips minimum to your local home improvement store. My kitchen did not have a switched outlet for a disposal so I also bought the InSinkErator switched outlet (http://www.amazon.com/InSinkErator-STS-00-Outlet-SinkTop-Switch/dp/B000BQO9XM?ie=UTF8&psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s03) to complete my install. The unit is quiet and grinds up everything without a hitch. The disposal takes up a good amount of space under your sink that you may have been using previously. Make sure you have clearance if you have a deep sink. Two trips (as planned - once to get the parts I thought I needed and once to get the part I actually need to finish) and everything was up and running.

This was a good solution for us in our new house that has a septic system. We were always told you can't use a garbage disposal with septic systems, which isn't true if you use the right one. This is the right one. I was tempted to buy the top InSinkErator model - the Evolution Excel. But after contacting InSinkErator, this one is the way to go with septic systems. It has a dual blade system that pulverizes food particles into dust. It then injects a few drops of their septic solution (bacteria) down the drain to help the particles biodegrade in your septic system. This will not harm your septic system and will help all that food break down. It's the easiest disposal I've ever installed, and I did it myself without help. I got it to twist on easier than any other disposal I've used, which is saying something. Usually installing these is super frustrating! The instructions are very clear and easy to follow. Make sure the exit drain from the disposal is HIGHER than the drain running out the house, or you can't have a disposal. Water flows with gravity, so if your exit drain leaving the house is higher than this one, water will just sit in your disposal and stink up your house. This is a very quiet disposal and chews up everything I put in it. I installed a push button disposal switch on top of my sink when we had our new sink installed for a clean look. It does not come with any kind of power cord. However, you can buy a dishwasher power cord at your local hardware store (HD, Lowe's) and they work perfectly. That's what I used and I had no issue. You just need an outlet under your sink (I had an electrician install one for us). Overall I'm very pleased with this disposal, and I'm glad I didn't spend more money on the Excel as it's not necessary for septic systems.

I have had the Insinkerator Evolution installed for a couple of weeks now and I can say that I am quite pleased with its performance. You just can't install this little beast anywhere, you have to measure and make sure. This disposal is heavy duty and heavy. So far, I have not experienced any issues to speak of. It was a pretty easy install. It is somewhat noisy, but not excessive. Its well built and works as it should and I would recommend it. If you can relate to "Tim" on Tool Time its uuuurrrrrrrr.

I really like this disposal. It's quiet and have never had an issue with something not being ground up. I have no idea if the bio charge does anything, but it doesn't go through it very fast. I've had it for over a year now and still have over half a bottle left. The unit is big though, make sure you have enough room for it. The sink also doesn't vibrate like it did with the previous one we had. Update 7/18/2017: It's been installed for nearly 2 years now and still runs as good as it did when it was new. It also doesn't go through the "juice" very quickly, we're still on our first jug. Could not be happier with this purchase.

This unit is easy to install and runs quietly. However, the BioCharge cartridge broken open in the box. The box was ruined and cartridge was unusable, but I decided to accept the loss rather than send the entire unit back for replacement. The fluid in the cartridge does not seem to stain and has no obnoxious odor. A new cartridge at Lowes is about $15.

I have purchased and installed 2 of these units in 2 different houses. This thing will chew up chicken bones and whatever else you put in it and be quieter while doing it than those $80 units are just running with nothing in them. I've had more than my fair share of those cheap units and I figured something out... they're not "garbage disposals"... they're just "garbage". I really am amazed by how quiet this thing is. It wouldn't wake a sleeping baby. If you use your disposal at all, these high $$ units are well worth the money... if you don't, then don't bother with a good one OR a "garbage" disposal.

I purchased the Evolution Septic Assist to replace an old one that finally began having problems after about 15 years of service. I feel that I got a good service life out of that one and I have never had a problem with my septic system so I purchased a new model as a replacement. It seems to be just as well built as my old one. It's big and heavy like the old one. It's a little better looking than the old one, if that really matters to you. I believe it does a better job of "disposing" but it is new vs a 15 year old model so it could just be that the old one was worn out; I couldn't say if it worked better when it was new or not. The new one is much quieter than the old one. I would put it at about a third the noise of the old one; a reduction of 66%. I have every reason to believe it will hold up every bit as good as the old one but only time will tell. As a side, be sure to read the instructions concerning the enzyme bottle. If you do not install it properly the disposal will not dispense it. You have to twist the cap on the bottle until the spout pops out and up before installing it.

I had to order this as a replacement for my 15 year old ISE disposal that had began to leak because my water has a low Ph (Read acid). My old unit was the Septic safe model that was based on the 1/2 HP badger unit, the old one was louder, and took a lot longer to grind similar amounts of waste. They no longer make that disposal and this is the closest replacement. I'm giving this new unit 5 stars based on only a month and a half of use and the performance of the old unit. This unit is both quieter and faster, I was 5 star happy with the old unit and if this one lasts as long I will be more than happy with it.Something I will mention about this unit that I do not like compared to the old unit is that this one does not have an indicator on the side to remind you when to order more "Bio Charge" other than that this unit is better in every way. I will mention that this unit was a drop in replacement for the old unit, the fit was so similar that if anything was different I couldn't tell, yo have to like that. Truth be told I would have bought the lower price lesser and louder unit and been happy with it at a lower price, with this new disposal I feel that I got just as much value for my money.

This is my 2nd unit in 14 years.. (I must've damaged the first, when I dislodged a piece of metal with a flat bar and hammer, because it developed an internal leak shortly afterwards).. ++buy it here for $199 or go get it at the home Depot for $249. I have to say, the noise level is substantially lower in this one.. to the extent that my better half asked "are you sure it's working?". Of all the negative reviews here, I believe a good portion are either trolls or folks who should have hired somebody to install their unit. With a 4 year in-home warranty (parts and labor) you can't go wrong, so long as the unit is properly installed. If it's damaged out of the box, simply return it for a replacement.

Installed this the same day it arrived. Replaced a 1/2hp, from this manufacturer, when it started to leak water (and short out the disposal - which is how I discovered it leaked, thankfully it was on a GFCI circuit.) Anyway, the 3/4hp was of course bigger, which meant the fixed plumbing under the sink had to be updated/modified - ABS vs the cheap white plastic type usually in the store. I think I prefer the ABS know that I have used both.... So, unit installed fairly easy, I bought a new power cord with the unit, and minus the plumbing change, it went in very nicely. Once I installed the new sink fitting, the moderately heavy disposal went in fairly easy. Note, the unit feels heavier when you have to lift it at arms reach under a sink in tight quarters. Since their fitting to the sink only requires the unit to be about a 1/3 turn twist to put in place, I was not lifting it for long. Once in, it hooked up pretty fast. This unit has a number of really nice features. The septic assist is nice, based on reviews, I think this will be really great. Also, there is a number of anti-vibration and noise features. It is really quiet. It makes the same level of noise our old one did when it jammed. Now, if you don't expect to hear anything, well, it will be noisy. But to put it into perspective, the water flowing into the sink either makes the same amount of noise, or at least about the same.....it's that quiet. Time will tell how it goes, but so far we are pleased.
