Chances are that if you've bought a new humidor in the recent past it came preinstalled with one of those cheap gold-looking analog hygrometers that get somewhere in the neighborhood of working properly, but never really measure up. I highly recommend instantly replacing it with one of these. You won't be sorry. Don't cheap out though. Get the Boveda One-Step Calibration kit to go with it and do it RIGHT! Yes, these are factory calibrated, but anyone with a shred of common sense can understand that calibrations drift and occasionally need to be adjusted. Factor in all of the different climates that it traveled through to get to you and you won't be surprised to see a little drift. That's why they make adjustment knobs (don't see one of those on that little gold bling thing...do you? I have two brand new units it a Boveda One-Step Calibration kit right now and they're both tracking within 1% of each other and the temperature readings on bother are identical. I consider that to be damned good quality. Adjusting them can be a bit of a pain. The instructions say that 1 "click" of the knob equals a 1% adjustment. There's barely a noticeable click though so you'll find yourself making multiple adjustments to dial them in properly. Small price to pay for accuracy.

I chose this product over other because it was relatively inexpensive and it allows for calibration of the hygrometer, unlike other products. I first calibrated the hygrometer by setting it next to a (very accurate and precise) humidity sensor in a lab at work. It was around 38% RH. Curious how well it would hold calibration at a higher humidity (something similar to what my humidor would be), I did the popular salt test in a zip lock bag. I left it overnight and came back to see it reading 70F and 75% RH. Perfect! I was impressed. With the good results from the calibration tests, I am happy to know this product will do a good job at monitoring my humidor. Highly recommended!

Can't go wrong with these. I've bought 6! Better than the Xikar...ITS PROGRAMMABLE AND DIGITAL. Owned these for months and no issues yet. Other digital hygrometers are not...unless you pay some more money. Easy to program too. If needed.

My husband's new humidor's gage was consistently giving low readings, no matter how many times we tried to treat the wood inside to keep the moisture levels up. We decided to buy a gage to keep inside the humidor, and sure enough the humidor's levels are actually fine and the other gage was just not accurate. This gage is small enough to not take up too much room, and now the cigars are not dried out!

I'm sure there are hygrometers that are easier to adjust but for the money I would say that this is the best one on Amazon. I used the zip lock bag and salt to calibrate it at 75%. Calibration was a little tricky but not too bad. My humidor contains 100 cigars this hygrometer, and 4 Boveda Humidity Control Packs (2 @ 72 and 2 @ 69). This hygrometer is perfect for my situation. I am very pleased with the product and will purchase it again when I expand my collection to an additional humidor. UPDATE: After a couple years this hygrometer is still working perfectly. While your shopping on Amazon buy a pack of 357A batteries and put them with your cigar stuff (cutters, wood matches, cedar paper, etc...) so when the numbers start to fade you can replace the battery. I would definitely recommend this hygrometer to anyone regardless of the size of their humidor.

This little device is working just as advertised. I used it to re-activate my humidor after years of non-use, and it was very helpful. I started by calibrating the HygroSet using the salt test. It settled in at 76%--only 1% off--which shows that it was well-calibrated at the factory. It was easy to reset the reading to the correct 75%, and it stayed there for two days of salt testing. Meanwhile, I "seasoned" my humidor interior with water and added a Xicar humidification gizmo. It turned out that I did too much seasoning, and it needed to dry out a bit before adding the cigars. My humidor is now stable at the desired 70%, and I feel I can rely on this device to care for my cigars.

I purchased this as a Christmas gift with a humidor and some other items. It’s still working. I had purchased a cali ration bag from Bovida to test the hygrometer and it was hardly off from what it was supposed to be. I think maybe .1 or .2 off. A year later and it’s still working.

This was reading about 5 points higher than the readout on my dehumidifier and what the weather site said so I calibrated it. I didn't want to waste any table salt so I used two pellets from the water softener. I soaked them for a day in water in a cap from a vitamin bottle, poured out the water, let them sit in the open for half a day, then put the pellets in the cap in a closed chocolate chip plastic box along with the hygrometer. After 8 hours the hygrometer was reading 78. I turned the little dial counterclockwise and pushed the little button on the right with a ballpoint pen refill. After sitting in the box for another 8 hours it read 74. I turned the dial a little clockwise, let it sit in the box some more, and now it reads 75. The clicks on the dial are not distinct, the pointer is small, and the numbers don't always change the way you expect when you first press the calibration button. I wore two sets of reading glasses at once to see the where the pointer was and then let the hygrometer sit in the sealed box for hours to see where it stabilized.

I do guitar repair as well as own many of my own guitars. I wanted a hygrometer to help me keep track of the ambient humidity and temp in my apartment. Gotta keep the instruments safe! I purchased this hygrometer 4 years ago, I only found that out because the original battery just died so I looked the unit up on my amazon account. It has been great for the last 4 years! I'm seeing some of these bad reviews and I have to think that they are because of user error. This thing has worked really well for me and seems to be very accurate +-2%. I have recalibrated it maybe once a year just to be safe. As long as you do that you're golden. Now I'm gonna get a fresh battery and probably order a second unit just cause!

I've been using these for almost 5 years - in both of my humidors and a few other places where I dry and age vegetable matter. I have one in my garage and one in my bedroom to monitor what my heaters and A/C are doing. They're accurate, conveniently sized, magnetic, ship with a perfectly shaped two sided adhesive sticker in case you want to mount one permanently, and they just keep going and going! I especially like that the numbers are large and easy to read so you can view them from afar - like through the top of a glass humidor, or through the wall of a glass mason jar - without opening them! You can even press the little red button to convert between C and F degrees. Which is fine. I even had to replace the battery in one of mine after about 4 years - it started working again like nothing had happened! I own 5 or 6 of these now and none needed calibrating, they were dead on right out of the box. One caveat is that there are fakes out there, so look for the Quality Importers name when you buy, and when you receive the info in the package. Highly recommended!
