After almost 4 months of use, I can say that this is, without doubt, the very best can opener I have ever owned and that includes sundry electric can openers as well. Over the years I have purchased various types of can openers from various vendors, and none - absolutely none - have worked as well as this one. In fact, I would rate all the other openers I have owned as zero or perhaps a negative rating except for an electric opener I have owned for years and that one I'd rate a 3. This opener is hands down a 5 and is the only one I use now. However, I will say this: there is a tendency to really squeeze this opener (and I mean get a death grip on the handles) as I am turning the crank. This arises from my sorry history with manual can openers. It was necessary to really clamp down in order to keep the cutter running through the metal. I have to remind myself to ease up, relax, give the tool a break. It locks into position and it only takes slight pressure to keep cutting the can while easily turning the handle. But I can see why a number of unhappy buyers broke the opener; for years everyone has had to physically wrestle with the appliance to get it to work and even then it wouldn't work well. So I think that all of us who have had such a miserable history with this device naturally go at this product with hammer and tongs when we first get it. I would advise anyone buying this great little tool to ease up by 90% and you will be amazed just how quick and easy it is to open a can. Really. It is almost effortless.

I had an OXO can opener for years - I never loved it, but I figured it did it's job so it wasn't worth getting rid of it and replacing it. Was I ever wrong! The OXO one finally broke and I ordered this Zyliss one based on the favorable reviews. I'm glad I did! It operates smoothly and easily while fitting nicely in either my smaller hand or my husband's larger hand. It is effective and I love the little magnet on the front for lifting the can lid - no more sticking the point of a knife under the cut lid to pry it out. Who knew I'd be excited about a can opener? This is a great little tool!

After reading reviews about way too many can openers trying to make a decision, I chose this one. Glad I did. The can opener is well built. Plastic is well finished and the rubber parts are "grippy." Not really a learning curve to using this. Just use it the way you use any can opener with only minimal differences. Put the opener on the can and squeeze the handles to pierce the top. Squeeze until the red button on the top engages (locks the opener on the can) and start twisting the rubberized handle. The motion is amazingly smooth and consistent. No jumping or staggered motion; the teeth of the opener work flawlessly to move the can in a circular motion. Once the top is completely cut, push down on the red button and the handles release the can. If you want to lift the lid off of the can without touching it, you can use the magnet at the front of the opener to lift the lid. The top of the can is not jagged when finished cutting the lid.

I bought this after owning many different cheaper kinds that were difficult to turn and rusted beyond use in a short amount of time. My husbands hands have had arthritis and joint pain start to settle in and our old manual ones were becoming too painful for him to use and it was high time I started looking for a replacement. Don't care for the electric ones as they just take up too much space and we aren't big canned good users anyhow, but for the sake of the hubby, I considered them anyhow. After reading many reviews on both electric and manual variations, this seemed to get the best reviews. At what I consider a steep price for a manual opener, I took a chance....and I'm glad I did! This thing really is great. It is bulky enough so you can really get a grip on it, for one, which is nice for my hubby who has bigger hands that can't grip smaller handles on the usual ones. And it has a lock button so once it clamps down on the can, it locks down and isn't going anywhere. And then you just simply, and most importantly, EASILY turn the handle and it glides through the lid like butter. So nice to finally find an opener that does what it's supposed to - with ease! I hope it lasts, but it seems to be made of good stainless steel construction so I'm crossing fingers, but still...even if it breaks in a few years, I'd still have to consider buying another for it truly works so nicely.

I really like this little can opener. I bought it when I couldn't find my cabinet mounted "Swing-A-Way" after moving. I needed something that I could hold easily and without pain. (Arthritic joint pain) It clamps well with a minimum of effort and the handle turns easily for a handheld can opener. The lock is a nice feature as is the magnet to grab the lid. It's a little bit underpowered since lids are sometimes tricky to extract, but it works most of the time. I would definitely repurchase

Have you spent a substantial part of your life searching for a can opener that actually OPENS CANS? We have, and we recently lost ours to that incurable disease that randomly effects can openers - even when they are safely quarantined in the kitchen drawer. Other people have a great love of electric can openers, but we have had just as much trouble with those, and at a much higher replacement cost. So, we searched (again) through the manual opener options on Amazon. We found this Zyliss 20362 Lock N' Lift Can Opener (did I spell all that right?), and some inkling told me to buy it. OMG, we are in love. When you put the opener onto the edge of the can, that red clip comes up through the white handle and *locks* into place. It holds the blade in the right position all the way around, until you un-clip it when you're done. This can opener feels substantial - not like the cheap ones we buy because we cringe at the thought of spending more than $15 on a tool we know is destined to give us high blood pressure. I have bought another one to keep in our emergency supplies storage. I'll definitely buy again, and have recommended it to friends. We have been using this opener for a few months now, and it feels just as great now. And for the price -- less than $11.00!! -- Definitely worth it.

Seriously, I feel like I've spent my life "coping" with really crappy can openers. Our most recent one got to the point where you couldn't even turn the wheel and had to just "pierce" the can all the way around before you could get it open. To be honest we dealt with this for way too long. Finally we looked up the highest reviewed opener on Amazon and sure enough, this baby popped up. Of course once we bought it, i managed to only buy "pop tab" cans for a good month or two, so i ddidn't get to try it out. But - when I finally did, it was like BUTTER!!! It's so high quality and works so well, i'm pretty sure I'll be handing this down to my grandkids in my will.

Some directions on how to us would be wonderful! It took me a few times to figure out how to use it, but once you figured it out, it is absolutely the best manual can opener I have ever owned. We order one for our garage apartment kitchen, after my wife leaned to use it (who has arthritis in her hands and still suffers pain from fractures of the arm 2 yrs ago) she took it to the main house, and quit using her electric can opener. She claims the electric spits juice onto the counter. So I am having to replace the one in the Garage Apartment. 1) It must be lock down on the can before you start using it. 2) Magnet for the can lids works best if you use it after the can is completely open and the handle has to be turned in a position where it will not effect the magnet picking up the lid. But it keeps your fingers out of the contents of the can. We have had our for about 9 months. I have never had a can opener over the past few years last that long.

This is the best can operated I’ve ever used. I’ve owned mine for over two years and have never had an issue with opening cans of all sizes. It latches and turns smooth and easy. Open to full extension by holding down colored thumb lock button for easy cleaning. Only when a can is dented is there a problem with a complete turn on the can, even then a little adjustment is all you need to completely remove the lid. I highly recommend the Zyliss Lock N’ LIft Can Opener.

Best can opener I've ever used. It locks onto any can easily and cuts smooth and quick. I never struggle. I use the little magnet to lift the can cover into the trash to I don't cut myself, very nifty. I had one before this for four years and it worked perfect the whole time. A house guest broke it when they didn't realize they had to push the button to open the device (thus breaking it's ability to lock on, but they had to pull extremely hard to break it and most people would realize they were using it wrong). Needless to say, I bought the same opener without hesitation again.
