Other reviewers have done a good job of explaining the use and features of this chopper. Having experienced the relative merits of two different brands of choppers, I want to focus on the comparisons between these two, the Vidalia Chop Wizard and the Progressive Prepworks GP-4000 chopper. The Vidalia Wizard was the first manual chopper I owned. I loved that tool, and used it almost every day. The worst thing was always having to get it out of the dishwasher and rinse it off so I could use it for the next meal. My daughter loved it too, and it was pressed into service for chopping large batches of veggies for canned salsa. We even used it at a family reunion to make a huge batch of fresh salsa. Well. as my husband would comment occasionally, the chopper was not designed for commercial use, and eventually it broke at the hinges. I lived without a chopper for awhile, but I found that I was spoiled. When I spied a chopper called the Progressive that came with not two but THREE cutter grids, a side-cutter, and its own plastic storage case, I bought it and gleefully brought it home to begin chopping. Now the Progressive chopper looks good. It has a sturdier appearance than the Vidalia, and I really liked the idea of that extra slicer grid. But, sadly, when it comes to chopping, I found this chopper lacking. The reason is not mysterious. The Vidalia Wizard has MUCH sharper blades. Of course it will cut your vegetables and other foods more easily. I have particularly weak hands, so this may not be as important to you as it is to me, but everyone in my family who used both choppers noticed the difference. What happened at my house is that after awhile I no longer bothered to pull out the Progressive chopper. The old fashioned knife was almost as easy to use, if not as quick, and certainly easier to wash up. I have just received a new Vidalia Chop Wizard, and I'm back in the business of chopping large amounts of veggies with ease and efficiency. I could wish it had a slicer grid, and a neat plastic box to store the unit in, but what I really want in a chopper is...a chopper! And with the Vidalia Chop Wizard, that's what I've got.

This is the coolest kitchen gadget I have purchased in years. I love it! I was worried because it's plastic but it works great. I thought the plastic hinges might break but I'm just careful that the hinges are seated properly before I go pounding on it. I make pico de gallo like crazy. It's especially great for onions. I have a food processor but it seems to make a mess of onions and tomatoes- chopping them to a mush. Besides this is much easier to set up than my food processor for small jobs. It is helpful to cut onions into four or six chunks before chopping them and I do slice my tomatoes before chopping but even with that extra cutting, the chopping job goes so much faster and with little or no onion tears. I chop up a bag of onions, a couple of bunches of celery, and some carrots at one time and freeze them in bags for soups and casseroles.

I don’t know what my sister did but after owning this marvel for ‘bout ten years, she broke it. The hinges on the lid broke off. I’m so happy to have found a replacement. Saves hours of chopping. The smaller grate makes a great olive tapenade. Imagine dicing hundreds of little olives! I’m a kitchen gadget hound and this is in my top tier of priceless helpful kitchen tools. The little cleaning tools slides caught food with a quick cross-cross motion under running water and the measuring markers on the side are very helpful.

I had one of these for years until I wore it out using it almost every day. This is my favorite of the choppers. It is plain, no frills with lots of goodies that come with some others. This model looks to be improved over the last one I had so I expect it to last longer. Carrots are very hard but go through this machine with ease, as long as you have them cut to the size of the square. The little cleaning tool works very well and handles any food that gets trapped in the lid. Just slice your onion into 1/2" slices, about 5 or 6 slices does the trick and then put them on the grate, and press. The squares are perfect that come through the grate. This saves me lots of time chopping and chopping and chopping. That is the whole issue, isn't it? I bought a chopper from a TV infomercial and hated it every time I got it out. It came with lots of graters and such and was totally not needed. When I want to chop an onion, I want it chopped without going through lots of setup and parts to get the onion chopped. This is easy, stores with a smaller footprint than my last TV purchased chopper, cleans easier and faster and will last a long time. I don't think you will be unhappy with the Visalia Chop Wizard.

Since I cook a lot and chop a lot, I got this figuring it was just a waste of money but worth a try. After all, these are "Made for TV." Was I wrong. If you chop onions, peppers, or other veggies as I do almost every day, it seems impossible that anything could do the job. This device chops onions very well. Not as fine as one can hand chop, of course, since there are only two blades. But for quite uniform, unbelievably fast chopping (a medium sized Vidalia onion takes about a minute), try this out. I never minded chopping and find it kind of therapeutic at times, but when people are waiting for dinner, this gets the job done. I've had this almost a year and it looks new despite almost daily use. Cleans very fast if you don't lose the cleaning tool!! The one thing that requires a little mastery is that it won't chop uniform sizes unless you pay a little attention to how you set up the onion portion you are chopping. A little experience and it becomes automatic.

I ordered this one over a year ago and it performed well. However, when it broke, I decided to try another one and then when that one broke, a third one. The the third one which was a Mueller on here is very dangerous and unsafe. Two of the small blades broke off in carrots and we did not know it until my husband saw it in the soup. Of course, the soup and slicer both went in the trash. I tried to put a negative review on this one for people to be safe and Amazon would not allow it. I am very disappointed in Amazon for this. Are they only wanting positive reviews. I do give this one a positive review. I read the reviews and very often order things according to the reviews. This makes me question trusting the reviews now.

I Love this. This is the second one I have bought. The first one I bought was 10 years ago, so; I do not mind buying another. The first one, the bottom "bowl" cracked because of plenty of use, and the little bottom footings fell off in the dishwasher. This made it uneven, so when I brought the top down to chop, it cracked, and a piece fell off. But it served me well. I had no hesitation or problem buying a second one, and it has already been used extensively. Cleaning: It is a bit difficult to clean, but they give you a little tool to help you clean the top part. I tend to hit the top against the side of the sink, and that will get out 50% of it off the bat. Additionally, do not used on soft things like bananas. However, if you put in medium firm veggies, like onion and bell peppers, put the skin side up. This will make it considerably easier to clean. Blessings! May you use it in good health and for good health.

I use mine every time I cook. It is very sturdy and durable. I have no feeling that it could break because I have used it chopping hard carrots, celery and LOTS of onions. You can chop a large onion quickly, easily and uniformly. As you chop, you can see the measure of the chopped ingredient by turning the Chop Wizard vertically. This saves time and does not dirty up another measuring cup. I use the smaller grate to dice jalapenos and freeze the diced peppers in silicone ice tray cubes for future recipes. I have noticed a lot of people commenting on difficulty cleaning. I use a soap-dispensing dish brush and it works extremely well on both the metal grates and the top part that pushes through the grate. Clean up is a breeze with the little brush. Order your Chop Wizard and a soap dispensing brush at the same time and you'll be in chopping heaven.

I've been desiring a product that would cube vegetables and this one absolutely fits the bill. I've used blender attachments, hand choppers, and even the ol' fashioned knife. Each has their benefits but this Vidalia Chop Wizard fills a niche in my kitchen. I enjoy cooking and tend to use a lot of vegetables in my meals, whether it be crock pot, stove top, or oven. Anyway, the device arrived yesterday and I've been using this thing today for various cooking ambitions (it's the weekend; give me credit here...). This slices through potatoes, carrots, and onions with relative ease. What is very nice is how there's these five rubberized grips on the bottom. I am finding that this thing stays put on the counter top without any movement or sliding. I cannot extend the same compliment to my cutting boards, though. The little pick that comes with it is very useful to get rid of any debris from between the grooves in the lid. The plastic comb is a bit delicate, so I'm wondering how long it's going to last before one of the tines break. Hopefully the company is able to distribute replacements because the spacing is exactly the width of the grooves on the lid. Makes for exceptionally easy clean-up. So, yeah, you're not going to find yourself crying over onions with this thing. I probably chopped one large onion in less than two minutes, with the most time dedicated to the pre-work of removing the outer layers and slicing off the ends. Once your onion is ready for chopping, you can dice the bulb in probably 30 seconds. Well worth it, since I use onions with a lot of my dishes. If you're looking for a kitchen time-saver, this would certainly satisfy that need. Here's hoping the device can hold up to a lot of use!

I have been using this product for many years and love it. Over the years I have had to replace it a few times, most recently in November 2016. It is still working fine. I use it at least once a week, sometimes more. I make a lot of soup, chilis, stews and use it to chop onions, carrots, celery, potatoes, and other vegetables. I have also used it for apples and other fruits. What a time saver! For onions, I do have to cut them in quarters before using in the chopper, but that is no big deal. I have bought many of these for gifts and the recipients love them. They do wear out but, in my experience, only after a lot of use. I am a customer forever!
