Purchased primarily for Cast Iron Seasoning purposes because my old brush melted and had a tendency to lose bristles. This should be able to handle the heat if the description is correct stating they can withstand up to 600 deg. f.. I have used them to reapply oil to a few pans already during the seasoning process, and the brush does seem to withstand a lot of heat without loss of shape. I purchased two and the second one may end up in the garage/shop to sweep away hot metal shavings, to apply various solutions, or things of that nature.

This silicone basting brush works like a charm. Its construction is very well thought out. The inner part of the brush is flat with holes to capture whatever you are using to baste with. The handle is ergonomic and fits well to the hand. Cleanup is a breeze with the all silicone bristle design. I approve this product for use after multiple months of use with several different types liquids, from honey glazes to herb butter. I will definitely buy this again.

I have always liked using a plain old brush but did not see many that didnt drop their bristles too often. I had received a free silicone basting brush as a part of some other order and was really disappointed with it. The head kept falling off when you tried to use it and you would have to try and scoop as much sauce onto the brush before it all dripped off and slap it around a bit. Lots of flapping and slapping. After watching a Cooks Corner where they addressed this topic, they picked this brush. I love OXO so I decided to give it a try. It solves the no sauce on the brush problem by interesting middle baffles that catch and hold the sauce in the brush so you have something to work with. The brush part has enough constitution to work effectively to move the sauce where you want it to go. It has worked well for us and we like that we can just throw it in the dishwasher to clean up.

As many other reviewers have noted, this brush is AMAZING. Like all of my OXO products, it's sturdy and does what it's made to do. The silicone bristles will *never* shed in your food and the brush comes clean easily! I wash my dishes by hand and it's so much easier to clean than any other pastry brush I've owned. No layer of grease, no staining, no scent, just clean bristles! I do not use this brush when I'm working with delicate pastry, but it works for everything else. I have two, actually, one for using on meats and one for anything sweet. The silicone bristles hold liquid very well -- the middle layer of bristles is designed to trap liquid and distribute it evenly over food. Also, I like the feeling of the handle, which is smooth and has just enough weight to feel substantial. If you're looking for an all-around pastry brush, you can't beat this one. The only reason to pass on this brush is if you need it for working with delicacies such as homemade phyllo dough or something similar. The bristles are a bit too heavy for such tasks and might tear your creations.

I love this basting/ Pastry brush. Its gentle on pastries and durable for turkey basting. When I'm done, I throw is in the dishwasher which is great. If you leave it on the counter too long, dust/ dirt might cling to the silicone, so just make sure you are keeping it in a clean spot.

I love how this brush works for bread making. It was a great investment. Whether brushing melted butter or egg wash, the OXO Good Grips Silicon Brush holds onto the wash with little dripping. The design is excellent, such that the bristles are at an angle, making distribution if the wash ergonomically easy. I consider the brush an essential tool for my bread making hobby.

This thing is much, much nicer than my old bristle basting brush. I feel like it cleans up much better, will not shed bristles and is easy to keep sanitary. It picks up a nice amount of liquid and the silicone bristles are soft and won't damage whatever you are washing or basting.

I used it to put an olive oil, garlic salt, and parmesan mixture onto bell peppers before roasting. I was concerned the bristles might hug to some ingredients and not others, but they did a great job evenly distributing everything. It went in the dishwasher (in the silverware rack, brush-down) and came out perfectly clean and undamaged. Great product!

I have owned several so called basting or pastry brushes which I'd intended to use for basting oil but they always had problems; the natural bristle ones were hard to clean and gave off little "hairs". The synthetic ones never did a good job of taking on or spreading the oil thinly enough. This silicone version by OXO Good Grips gets *everything* right though - * Takes on oil easily and disperses it evenly. * Can be used in high heat applications which makes it great for seasoning my cast iron or steel pans. * Cleans up easily with a swish in soapy water. * Angled handle tip keeps greased bristles off surfaces. * Perfect handle length and ergonomically correct/comfortable. I can't think of a single thing I'd change about this basting brush. Very pleased with this purchase and highly recommended!

I was a bit doubtful when I bought the pastry brush because I was concerned about the size and the silicone material. In my mind a brush should have regular bristles. I changed my mind about that as soon as I got the brush. It is of medium size with flat middle bristles with circles inside that trap liquid and whatever you want to brush on your pastry. In fact silicone is much better than regular bristles because there is very little chance that one bristle will end up in your dinner. It is a bit softer than a usual brush, so it might not be perfect for frosting spreading, for example. UPDATE (6/17/2012): I tried spreading homemade frosting that is a bit thinner than store bought, and the brush worked perfectly! If you choose to use it on a store bought frosting, just let it get to the room temperature before spreading on a cake. UPDATE (6/22/2012): Love it!!! Made a meatloaf the other day, had to cover it with mixture of ketchup with brown sugar. The brush worked without any problems. Very easy to clean, use a dishwasher.
