High quality basmati that doesn't empty the bank
As a frequent cooker of persian foods, its very important to me to have good basmati always on hand. Royal is reliable. Not too starchy, not brittle and crumbly, and most importantly, not over-absorptive. This works well (be sure to rinse it in cold water 4 or 5 times to get the starch out!) both for the persian style steamed rices as well as fried and then boiled or par-steamed north indian dishes. It even, with some care, will cook a somewhat stickier rice if you want. There are better basmatis, but they are offensively expensive. Its rice after all, so anything more extensive than $3/lb is absurd. You can get Royal at most grocery stores, which means that you will have consistent and reliable access to the same kind of basmati. If you buy from Amazon, don't pay more than $1.50 to 2/lb. In stores you can usually get 10lb bags for $13-18 dollars, or less. Of course lugging it home is a hug pain, which makes buying it with prime great.

Best rice ever
Once, you have used this rice, you will never want to eat any other kind of rice. Rinse, a few times, throw in pot with 2x the amount of water, some salt, garlic powder, and a dash of olive oil. cook until you see the top of the rice (water absorbed / evap) and then turn off and cover for 5-10mins. Best rice ever, delicated wonderful aroma and taste. Just buying my second sack 5 months later.

Good quality and price
I purchased this rice two years ago. It came with out any rips in the plastic lining and definitely no bugs. I have it stored in a plastic bucket with a tight fitting lid and the quality seems fine to me even after two years. It cooks fluffy and tastes great. I don't know what the other reviewers were talking about that complained about the packaging and consistency. I'm ordering another bag soon and will update this review if there are any problems. So far, so good!

Great rice - will be buying more as long as they keep the price reasonable
Can't always find basmati rice at a good price near me but this really fits the bill. Nice fluff to the rice if you cook it right and don't way over stir it. Lovely warm satisfying flavor. My husband was happily shocked that rice could taste so good (guess he was raised on plain white rice and Uncle Ben's). He requests I make this particular rice often. I've gone through two bags and will be buying more as long as they keep the price reasonable.

Everyday rice
It's a good everyday rice. The uncooked grains are long, thin and not too white. It cooks fast and well and the cooked grains remain separate (as opposed to sticky rice) which is how basmati is supposed to behave. It comes in a plastic packet inside the burlap bag but is not tightly vacuum-packed. Despite that, you hardly find any broken grains. However, this rice does not have the high aroma of a true basmati and most people use the term basmati to indicate any long-grained white rice nowadays. Not a problem for me and a genuine basmati would cost twice as much in India, let alone here.

Why did I buy 20lbs of rice?
Excellent quality rice! I rinse, then soak up to an hour, then rinse again. Throw it is the pressure cooker and voila! Perfect soft basmati every time! If you eat rice frequently or are hosting then I recommend this product. If you live alone and don't like rice a 20lb bag is not for you. Luckily I don't live alone and we eat a crap ton of rice.

I give it my Persian Seal of Approval!
This is the same Royal Basmati that we used to get at Sam's for around the same price (we have not renewed our Sam's Club membership because we can buy almost everything on Amazon or from Costco these days). It even came in the nice burlap sack (not the plastic bag shown)! As a Persian, we give this rice our Seal of Approval. It's the best Basmati rice you can find regularly.

Love that Royal Rice
After I learned about Royal Basmati Rice, I never wanted any other. I have tried many varieties of rice. There are small lot, specialty varieties that are very expensive even though they are also delightful and fun on the plate, but for everyday rice, I love Royal Basmati. It isn't soggy, and it isn't sticky. The grains keep their shape and flavor in curry, soup, or a pilaf. When I lived in a large city, I could count on finding it in some store or other. Now that I move around among small towns, it is harder to find. I was delighted to find it on Amazon. When I need more, that is where I will look.

Ignore the negative reviews
I was a little leery when I saw the crazy reviews about "plastic rice", etc. We use Basmati rice nearly every day and I certainly didn't want to eat any plastic rice. This is delicious, long grain, fragrant Basmati rice that cooks up wonderfully. The inner bag was sealed but it's a very thin bag and I can understand how some people might be finding perforations in it. That would be my only caveat. I would definitely recommend this rice, though.

Wonderful rice. Occasionally cheaper on Amazon than at the Asian food market
I am a rice eater, and a rice connoisseur. This is my favorite rice -- or at least, my favorite that is easily available. I was surprised to find today that a 20lb bag of this rice is now selling about twenty percent cheaper on Amazon than it is at my big local oriental food market (fifteen bucks today for the big 20# bag, but this certainly will change). Most oriental food products are much cheaper at the store than they are through Amazon.. Don't hesitate to by a big bag -- this rice ages well. You can store 20 pounds for a a year or two in a cool, dry place, without any degradation in quality. Basmati rice is usually aged. Basmati rice is not "sticky" like Jasmine and many other varieties, particularly short-grain rices. There are several traditional ways to cook this rice. Some involve soaking and washing. But the easy (and perfectly fine) way to cook it is to just add 2 cups rice to 4 cups water. Add some salt if desired. Bring gently to a boil uncovered, then cover the pot, and immediately turn down the heat to low, and simmer on low heat for about 15 minutes; give it a stir a couple times to keep it from sticking to the pan bottom. Just do a taste test to see when it is done to y our taste. It comes out delicious every time, and it is hard to mess up, even if you cook a little too long on low heat. This is so easy to cook that I have never understood the need for a rice cooker! If you do want the rice a little bit "stickier" -- as you might when served with Chinese dishes -- substitute a small amount of short-grain rice, such as Botan. I use one and three-quarter cups Basmati with one-quarter cup Botan (and add four cups water) when cooking rice to accompany Chinese dishes that are eaten with chopsticks. ( Eating pure Basmati rice with chopsticks is difficult!)
