Great Toolkit That Will Last

After running into some trouble working on a 2006 Hummer H3, I needed the proper tools for the 36mm nut that keeps the electric clutch fan on the water pump shaft. Originally I had rented a Toolkit from a local automotive store, but they were so wore out that I would've ended up stripping something. So, after a long search on Amazon for a decent toolkit - I found this one with Prime shipping. Gearwrench has a high reputation to uphold in the tool business, and this is a very high quality kit. It comes with every metric size you'd need for any modern vehicle, all labeled in the blow-molded container. The tools snap neat and tidely into their corresponding spots, and they fit tightly so that they don't clang around. The pulley holder is awesomely simple, just set the hooks onto the bolt heads and use the correct size wrench on the nut to break it loose. The wrenches also have a half inch drive hole on the rear of them so that you can attach a torque wrench for a final spec torque. All of the tools are heavy, sturdy, and milled to perfection. The tools even came packaged with tiny dots of oil placed where the tools touch so they don't rust touching each other. Overall I'm very satisfied with my purchase, and these are one of those toolsets that will probably last a lifetime.

One sturdy set of tools that actually works with nice blow mold case.

We all had bought something with certain expectations but let us be honest. How many times have we fooled ourselves?! I had issue with my Hemi engine fan clutch that I could not undo the clutch from the water pump pulley. Tried all kinds half dozen of tips and tricks to loosen the clutch but nothing worked. I bought this tool with hopes to undo the fan clutch and I just spent entire 3 mins to get it loose. This tools works by holding the water pump pulley steady with the scissor looking tool has pins that gets inserted into the holes on the water pump pulley. Obviously check your water pump pulley and make sure it has at least 2 holes for the pins of the pulley holder to be inserted. If you have problem loosening the clutch, forget Auto part store rental tools, this would be the last tool set you will need. I found you can piece meal this tool set that you can get only the size you need with the pulley holder.

Fan Clutch Tool

I purchased this fan clutch kit for planned work on my expedition. In the past, I've borrowed similar tools sets from the local auto parts store. I'm happy with the purchase. The kit arrives nested in a hard plastic, hinged cover storage box. Instructions are a little sparse and fortunately the tool is fairly intuitive to use. You basically remove two of the bolts holding the fan pulley and use the correct "pins" that you screw into the "scissor" tool. This allows you to hold the fan while you use correct wrench to loosen the fan clutch nut. Tool worked very well and has eliminated my trips to the auto parts store. Good purchase.

Great tool !

I was skeptical at first, but I really needed this tool and my other Gear Wrench tools have held up well. I have become very critical of cheap tools recently as my mechanical ability and some of the projects I have been taking on have improved and increased. I won’t even look at Craftsman anymore, and that’s a shame because it was my grandfather and fathers go-to brand for years, along with Cornwell and Mac. Amazon dropped this tool on my porch today at the perfect time. It worked like a dream and was actually built far far better than my expectations. I can’t see using it too often unless you’re a professional mechanic, but stuff like this is sure nice to have around the garage when you need it, especially at this price point.

It works

I have a 2002 Chevy Suburban that I had to replace the water pump. I tried for about 3 hours to remove the fan from the water pump and felt defeated when I could not. I watched many youtube video showing now to remove but it would not budge. I looked online and found this tool. It took about a week to get it but once I did took only seconds to remove it. Worth every penny. I used it again to tighten it after the water pump replacement. Sometimes you just have to get the tool that is needed.

A great and useful tool for any auto with a fan clutch.

Works great on vehicles old enough to have a fan clutch. I have a 2000 Dakota 4x4 4.7L. So, not much room under the hood because that's what happens when you put a good size V8 in a mid size truck. But this set let me pull my fan off with ease. And the adjustable pulley holder let's you hold it in place so you don't have to worry about everything moving while you're trying to take off the fan.

Solid, well-built kit, perfect for the job

This is a solid, high-quality kit. Like others have said, these are hefty tools. Big, thick, heavy - exactly what is needed. I used these successfully to remove and reinstall the fan clutch on a Dodge Dakota, and worked too for replacing a harmonic balancer. It helps that the holder tool is stiff, because it can be adjusted into a position and it holds that position, rather than flopping around, as you're attaching it to the pulley. Very happy with it.

Worth it and a time saver

This kit has worked flawlessly for us. I have been using it at work and coincidentally at home. It has every size that I have needed and has simplified the process over many times. I used to this with a chain and bolt, took up way more time. Even if you have one vehicle and you buy it, I guarantee you will lend it out to friends also. I have 3 times this month alone

Well priced set covers almost everything

can not beat this set for the quality and the price. Comes in a nice blow molded case but if you wabt to save room and put in your toolbox there is a wrench holder you can purchase just for these fan clutch wrenches. This set has covered everything that has come into my shop so far so hands down its a must purchase item

Great quality from Gearwrench. Very nice case, and covers just about any application you could think of. Check out my video review on Youtube. The only real negative I can see, is that the pulley holder is VERY stiff. So stiff it takes two hands to pull it apart and adjust the span. Not a huge deal, and it may loosen up over time, but definitely too stiff for my liking. But you cannot beat this price anywhere for what you get.
