Got this to use on a tractor filter located in a limited access area. The usual filter wrench for this is the type that covers the entire filter cap and is turned by a ratchet wrench inserted in the middle. My experience with that type of wrench on a tight filter has been a rounded off filter. This wrench easily removed the filter with no damage. I noticed occasional reviews that state the wrench distorts or punctures the filter. You don’t have to put a gorilla grip on this wrench. Just grip it tight enough not to slip. The wrench will take care of the rest.

Will remove the tightest oil filters!
This is a life saver! The incredible hulk must have tightened this filter last time, nothing would take it off. Tried normal oil wrench nope, tried band wrench, nope just dented filter. Last ditch screwdriver trick, nope worse. Ordered this hoping it would work, after a few tries and a bit more crushing the can it finally broke free. Highly recommended!

Not a Necessity
Not required by any means but it is a welcomed tool. These aren’t meant to take a lot of abuse but feel like they could. Spinning off oil filters is usually not difficult unless you get a little oil on your fingers then it’s next to impossible. I used to stab the filter with a screwdriver or break out the large slip jaw pliers to spin it. The second option was the better idea but was always a bit clumsy. These pliers do the job, unfortunately they aren’t good for much else but not really their fault. These are a nice inexpensive luxury to have.

Works perfectly if you have enough working room to use it.
This set of pliers is perfect for removing oil filters from most light-duty cars and trucks. As long as you have the working room to use the pliers, you can't go wrong with this tool. I have a Nissan Frontier and the oil filter for it is behind a small access door, above the front axle. There is very little room (without removing the whole belly pan) to remove the filter by hand, especially if you have larger hands. I originally bought a 3/8 drive socket filter wrench, but with the small amount of working room I just couldn't get it to work. This set of pliers had the filter off in seconds. It does deform the filter, so you will need to have enough room to spin the new filter on by hand. Luckily I do, so I can use this tool every time I change my oil. Highly recommended if you have enough working room to manipulate the handle for this tool!

and it is a great time saver when trying to turn off those pesky ...
I have now removed several filters with this product, and it is a great time saver when trying to turn off those pesky oily filters by hand...even with the grip surface. About the only improvement I could offer would be a slight angle between the grip and clamp portion, since you are rarely able to grab a filter directly from the side, and always need to come in at some form of angle. Regardless, it has still worked flawlessly each time (at an angle). If you are planning on re-using the filter (though I have no idea why), you will want to protect the filter from the teeth on this thing that will surely dent the filter when clamping on to remove it. Wrap the filter in a rag first to protect its integrity.

Works Great! Removal Only, Please...
A liability minded dealer installed my filter Wayyyyy too tight and it would not budge. Then this little guy came along. Very positive connection and fantastic traction with the filter, which came loose right away. These pliers have teeth, and it did put some bite marks in the filter, so don't use it for installation. I can't wait for one of my buddies to complain he can't get his filter off. Highly recommended.

Works as described
From order, to next day delivery, to actually using these pliers - perfect. I needed pliers with a threaded stud at the slip joint so I could grab the filter from an awkward angle. The threads allowed me to back the nut off enough to get a solid grip, while the handle was positioned where I needed it to be. Worked perfectly the first try. No need to squeeze super tight since the teeth will not slip when they are correctly positioned on the filter. Saved time and my knuckles...

Does what it's supposed to, it's not rocket science!
Bought these to use on my Corvette. If you've ever wrenched on a C5 Corvette, you know the way the oil pan is and how hard it is to get "band style" oil filter pliers on the filter and then turn it without smashing your hand on your long tube headers. I've only used these pliers three times and they've been brilliant each time. The teeth grip the filter adequately enough to turn the filter a quarter of a turn or until I'm able to spin it off by hand. Hopefully won't be needing to ever buy another pair but if I do need a 2nd pair, I will look to Tekton brand! Thanks

Removed a seized M1-204 (Mobil 1 Extended Performance Oil Filter)
Had a stuck Mobil 1 Extended Performance oil filter (M1-204) that I had been running for 12 months straight (per the "extended performance" 1 yr/15,000 mi guarantee), couldn't twist it even sitting underneath my Jeep with two hands in rubber gloves firmly grasping it, and while I'm not a Strongman, I'm not terribly weak either. Tried everything, until finally recognizing the absurdity of the situation - I have quite a few tools, so why don't I have a ten dollar pair of oil filter pliers? It's not like oil changes are a surprise every time. In come the Tekton 12-inch oil filter pliers. I've acquired a few Tekton tools via Amazon over the years and have always been pleased, so I went with them again this time, and yet again I'm pleased. These fit around the Mobil 1 oil filter (M1-204) perfectly and I think could handle oil filters even a little bit wider in diameter than this one, and I suspect this one's on the middle to upper end of normal vehicle oil filters. I had to squeeze so hard that the filter started to crush, but this was not a problem and in fact allowed the pliers to REALLY sink in and twist without slippage. Finally, the filter started twisting off. Woohoo! Now that I own these, never again will a 20 minute oil change turn into a 3 day adventure..

Great product - filter removal only
I love this filter wrench, so much that I've quit using the cap style that often don't work anyways. I was helping a friend change the oil on a 4-runner that had a filter installed by the Hulk. My cap wrench just rounded over the filter housing so I grabbed this tool and it gripped securely while I twisted the filter off. It does tend to crush the filter housing slightly and can even puncture the metal so this is for the REMOVAL of filters only. Of course, if you are using a wrench to install oil filters, you are over doing it - hand tighten is all they need.
