Fantastic knife great quality I'm a pro chef and I use these knives daily Handles fit nicely inhand but this is a personal thing, you must buy a knife that fits comfy in your hand Beautiful and quality Only thing is hard to sharpen but I haven't really had to sharpen ever. Great on tomatoes, bread, sandwiches etc. LOVE THIS KNIFE more than my husband

This was the first Shun knife I purchased, and it impressed me enough to pick up additional knives since then. As others have pointed out, this is a versatile knife useful for everything from bread & sandwiches to fine cuts on soft fruits & vegetables. I purchased it primarily for its ability to thinly slice tomatoes, at which it excels. There is a fair amount of heft to it for a relatively small knife and the tall blade helps maintain control when used with a cutting board (although requires a fairly wide slot in your storage block). For anyone considering moving up to higher end knives like Shun, this is a good place to start...if you decide not to invest in a full set of great knives, this is unique enough that you won't be displacing some similar knife from another manufacturer...if you do decide to expand and acquire more traditional pieces in the Shun Classic series, the overall utility of this knife will round out any complete set nicely.

Amazing sandwich knife. This is now my go-to knife for cutting fruit and anything sandwich related. Very sharp and feels great in the hand.

Wouldn't have thought to buy it till I saw Williams-Sonoma had a sale on it. My go-to for bagel & lox sandwiches. Does a great job slicing firm tomatoes & onions thinly (better than pointy utility knives), and unlike pointy knives its spatula-like tip can cleanly get the last bits of cream cheese or guac out of a plastic container. Blade is too short for cutting panini or BLTs made on wide bread slices, however--but that's so specialized that I won't ding it any stars. Had it for 8 yrs. now, which in quality-knife-years is toddlerhood.

Knife purists are no doubt going to pan this oddity from Shun. But it has become the "go-to" utility knife in my kitchen. Superb design and excellent craftsmanship are reasons why you might consider getting your hand on one. One lament: I had to purchase a sleeve for this guy to preserve its beautiful Damascus-type blade when attaching it to my magnetic rack.

Love the weight. Very sharp and precise cutting

Great for items that resist cutting, like tomatoes. This is my go-to veggie cutter.

This knife is a work of art. The quality is unparalleled. The knife allows me to prepare complete vegan meals with ease, without having to change knives. Thanks to this versatile tool, I was able to get rid of a dozen old knives!

The best knives! They are insane sharp and super heavy. The pattern on the blade from pounding the different metals together is absolutely stunning. I am so glad we went with the Classic series as they are just that.

I had not known about these sandwhich knives...but since I like to make my own bread and buns, and often make sandwhiches ..I figured, oh it would be nice to have a knife that would not destroy the beautiful sandwhich by making all the ingredients fall out on the sides. And Gosh does this knife serve its purpose. I don't know why or how it does it, but the feeling of cutting a realy big crunchy round sandwhich into two perfect halfs is stunning. I have a chef's knife of that brand also and really love it! Definitely a luxury, makes for a great gift if you know people who appreciate it, and if you're into cooking, you just deserve it. It is a beautiful knife. No experience on sharpening, but this kind of serrated knife will probably stay sharp very long, just like any great bread knife.
