I'm a half-Asian American who was raised by my white mom, so I never learned to cook anything authentically Asian until college. I got this steamer to make dou sha bao (red bean buns) from scratch for Lunar New Year. It had a few tiny rough fibers, which is to be expected from a handmade item, but they came off easily in my first pre-rinse. The steamer itself is two-basket and big enough to fit about six buns on each tier. It's very sturdy and definitely looks like it will last me the rest of my life. My buns turned out beautifully! The bamboo smell over heat gave off the kind of purely pleasant aroma that reminds you of childhood, even though I have never used one in my life. My girlfriend wants me to learn to make xiao long bao, so that's my next project with this steamer! I would highly recommend this steamer to anyone looking for one.

I wanted to buy this to learn new cooking style in the kitchen. Making buns is truly the best using this equipment. I would recommend using parchment paper inside so the buns won’t stick (poke holes for steam). I also recommend getting the 2 tier version, it comes in handy. Haven’t use it to steam other food groups or veggies yet lolz. A must buy!

I used this the day it arrived to cook pork dumplings. It was fantastic!. I used it 2 days later for shrimp pot stickers and another pork dish. Great again ! I used it a couple days later for carrots and potatoes. Again they were great. Steaming is so much healthier. This steamer is of good quality and I expect to use it weekly. It was not a New Years Resolution, but a desire to eat healthier. I have also done shrimp with Old Bay Seasoning. Oh yes, I almost forgot.... Buy a package of frozen banana leaves to line your steamer so the food doesn't stick to the bamboo. I paid $2 for enough leaves to cook 2 dozen times with and they keep in the freezer. You can use other things too. Excellent item!

Why did I wait so long to get a bamboo steamer? I love this thing! I use it almost everyday. I’m a dumpling fanatic, which is the reason I purchased the steamer. But I use it for far more. The fresh, clean bamboo smell is wonderful and makes you feel like you’re cooking healthy. I line it with cabbage leaves and then eat them too because they’re delicious. Quick rinse and clean up is done. It dries fairly quickly too. My bamboo steamer is now my favorite kitchen appliance!

Very handy indeed. Seems like one of those items you see on a shelf and wonder what the hell it is. I'm afraid someone in my family will throw it away, because it looks like its a part missing from cookware. My first concern, was that there is not a tight enough seal between the boiling pot, the ring, and the steamer, but actually, no steam escapes from the seam. Go figure. This item really makes you job so much easier. Perfect tool for the job. Work smarter, not harder...blah, blah, blah. It's inexpensive enough to warrant such a luxury.

Very good bamboo steamer basket! I am very pleased with the craftsmanship of the baskets. Just make sure to line the basket with cabbage or lettuce leaves before you steam dumplings in it. Otherwise they’ll stick!

I had one other bamboo steamer. It started smoking and burned a bit from the heat from my burner. Since I was not wanting to cause a fire I thought I would just toss the steamer and call it a day but on the other hand, I like the amount of steaming I can get done and the ease of use. I assumed there must be a solution and went on amazon and this is what popped up in my search. Bought a new steamer, and used this wring on my largest burner and so far so good. Seems to have solved the problem.

This is such a useful little ring! Our stove top space is never enough and the wok occupies more than its respective burner's fair space, so being able to use a regular sized pot for our bamboo steamer basket is great.

Over the past couple of years, I have read a great deal of research on the harmful effects of modern day cookware. As a result, I have purchased items such as this bamboo steamer because it is a natural cookware. The first time I used a bamboo steamer, 3-4 dinners of steam vegetables imparted a somewhat bitter wood-like taste on the vegetables. Thus, I would recommend several cycles (~3-4) of pre-soaking the steamer and boiling water underneath it without placing food within it in order to help remove some of the bitter wood-like taste that may leech into your food. Once this has been removed the steamer works wonderfully and the steamed vegetables taste great!

I have wanted to make home made dumplings for a long time and never imagined it could be this easy. This steamer worked outstanding, the dumplings were delicious and I can't wait to use it again. Two things I would recommend getting, one is the pot adapter, so you don't have to use a frying pan or worry about water in the pot running out. 2nd are the cotton liners to place the dumplings on. I don't like using cabbage leaves as I have seen here before because I detest the taste of cabbage. Great product.
