This is a great, very flexible product which can be configured in many setups and additional panels added (note: they changed the design at some point, I believe somewhere generally around 2007-2010 give or take a year or two. If you are trying to match an older set with a newer set, it might not be compatible). It is sturdy and well made. If you have sensitive hardwood floors, be careful about rubbing on the floor at the joints. If you want to make a long gate, like enclosing the fireplace, etc., it works fine but can get a little more tricky if you are making it really long by combining multiple sets of gates. If so, it would be advisable to make the straight line arched instead to give it more strength. This isn't a reflection on the product's abilities, just general physics that it will be stronger as an arch - especially if you have adventurous kids. If you plan to use long term attached to the wall, it would be advisable to secure a board to the wall and then mount this to the board. That's not a reflection on this product, just that kids tend to shake baby gates as they get older and it can mess up the wall - regardless of which baby gate. Excellent customer service - perhaps one of the best we've had for many years of buying baby products. Highly recommend.

We love this METAL SUPERYARD. It is very well designed. WE OWN FOUR SETS + EXTENSION, and bought the first set 4 years ago :D PROS: 1. THOUGHTFUL DESIGN: There are NO FOOTHOLDS for little feet to climb, unlike the many plastic superyards that have little holes or places where little hands and feet can easily scoot up (and OVER!) the yard. 2. QUALITY CONSTRUCTION: The construction is of much better quality than plastic ones (even their own brand) and other metal superyards. 3. EASE OF USE: The setup and break-down is very easy, once you get used to it. We have to remove ours & put back once a month, every month, for our home cleaning service. 4. VERSATILE: There are so many uses for these sets. We use 2 sets as a Full (bed size) Lounge/Play Pen where my husband of I lay down with the little ones when we need rest, but they still want to play. Friends who visit are in awe of our simple, but highly effective solution. They wish they'd thought of it when their kids were young :D LOL 5. PROTECTIVE: We also use 2 sets to block off sections of danger areas with electric cords and bookcases (we have a very active climber who likes to get on top of high stuff). CONS: 1. PRICE: These metal superyards are easily 2x's the price of the plastic ones. In our opinion, they're worth it but we understand it's clearly not as affordable so the price is a con. 2. DOORS: The doors, the ONLY doors, that are available with these metal superyards by North State are sturdy BUT NARROW. Why doesn't NS make a gate door wide enough for an average person? I'm a petite Asian woman and I barely fit through unless I am walking stick straight. When I'm holding my kids, I always have to be extra careful that their legs don't hit the gate when we pass through. Overall, despite the 2 cons, there is no better choice than this North State Metal Superyard.

I ordered this one after the regalo product arrived broken. After seeing both close up, the North States one is definitely worth the extra price. It's well made, sturdy, and easy to put together. I was worried it wouldn't hold up to 2 active cruisers and babies pulling on it, but it does! I also bought the extension - https://www.amazon.com/Superyard-Two-Panel-Extension-North-States/dp/B000U5LXSS/ref=pd_bxgy_75_2/141-1395090-4957540?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B000U5LXSS&pd_rd_r=5b7dead7-3aae-11e9-8c37-9bb5683a7901&pd_rd_w=Ip8V0&pd_rd_wg=wBHUx&pf_rd_p=6725dbd6-9917-451d-beba-16af7874e407&pf_rd_r=YC1A3ZK1GXJ9ZAC9CEW1&psc=1&refRID=YC1A3ZK1GXJ9ZAC9CEW1, and I'm glad I did because otherwise it would have been two small for two infants. With the extension, 2 babies plus a caregiver can fit comfortably inside. Pros: - I can open the gate with one hand - Play-yard with extension is big enough for 2 kids under 1 to play in, and 1 adult caregiver to sit in - Sturdy - Easy to switch shapes or back and forth between a small playyard and a room divider. Cons - Gate is too hard to open for my 3.5 year old (ok, this has some upside to it too) - Gate without the extension is rather small when set up in the octagon

My son is a climber (he’s learning to walk and pulling himself up on everything) and I don’t have to worry about the set falling or coming apart. I can feel comfortable to be able to leave the room for a moment without an accident or mishap from an escaping little one or injury from something coming apart by little hands. It is a bit heavy when you add the 2 sections to make it 8. But, it gave him more room. When I transport it, I break it down into 2 parts. It is easily converted or broken down. I am so glad I decided to go with this product over the others. I plan to purchase another for use around my fireplace for safety and at the top of my stairs.

We purchased this Metal Gate along with an extension for our son's playroom. Not so much to keep him in, but to keep our two dogs out so he had a clean environment to crawl around in. -We attached each end to a wall and positioned the swing gate in the center. The sections are easy to remove and put together. It is made of a heavy metal and is especially sturdy if the sections zig-zag, meaning the fence is not just straight across a room. Ours was straight across which was why we attached it to the walls. It would not have stood on it's own without being anchored. -The gate is user friendly, but not so much that a small child would be able to figure it out. The gate, if extended open, will not shut on it's own, but it does swing closed if you are opening it and just letting go. Sometimes it won't click shut, so you might want to ensure it completely closes and locks. -We were so happy with this fence that we purchased a second one for our spiral staircase. Our house looked like a fortress for a while, but we wanted to make sure our son wasn't climbing up and down the stairs because it would have been a hard fall to the tile below.

This puppy playpen has been fantastic for our 3 month old Lab who is chewing on everything! We don't want to always put him in his crate, if he is getting into mischief, but need to confine him to a safe area, & still allow him to play. We purchased a Classic Rib Doormat 36"x48" @ Ocean State Job Lot for $10 to put under it (in case of puppy accidents). We set it up 4'x26" rectangle which accomadates the mat. It is very sturdy & our Houdini pup has not escaped yet. Updated 11-8-15 with pictures regarding measurements. Hope this helps.

We are still far from exploring all the options with these gates, but we are sooooo delighted to have them! Right out of the box they are connected so we just placed them on the ground - and voila our play area was set. That's how sturdy they are. Our 8 month old crawler (who was at that point at a stage of trying to pull himself up on just about anything) couldn't tip it over or move this thing. We unpacked it on an evening after work and honestly could not be bothered to read instructions or try to figure things out, and we didn't have to - they stood strong for a few weeks not even connected one to the other (we bought two sets) and worked really well to keep our little one safely in his play area. We still haven't drilled it into the wall and he is 9 months now and sometimes leaning on the thing quite heavily. We also love the fact that they are not white but a more grayish, off white colour that is so much less conspicuous than white, It is also taller than most gates we have looked at. Which is important since our little one is quite tall. He is also a climber (he just went upstairs all by himself today - supervised ofc) and will attempt to climb just about anything at hand but there is nothing to invite climbing on this gate. Unlike some of the plastic gates out there it is very easy to see your child through these, so I can always just glimpse and tell what he is up to. The actual installation to get the two gates together did require a bit of thought, studying and trial and fail despite the instructions. The instructions could be clearer. The one thing I could think of that would improve it is a way to keep the gate safely open. Cause it will stay open once opened completely but when pushed past a certain point it will auto-close. It once slammed shut before I got my foot inside and I can tell you it was very painful, can't imagine what it would do to a baby! It's not a deal breaker by no means, cause we do use it mostly to keep him safely in, but sometimes if we are around I wouldn't mind leaving it open so he can freely choose to be inside or out. Even more often than that I would like to call my son and let him crawl out by himself, but I am just too scared to do that because I am worried the gate would slam shut if he nudges it. Because the gate is quite heavy it does leave imprints in the soft tiles but that doesn't really bother us at all. Conclusion Pros 1. Sturdy, as in REALLY sturdy. 2. Tall (30 inch), taller than most gates out there. 3. Great for pulling up, not so great for climbing over. 4. Multipurpose (we are planning to use them of top and bottom of the stairs once the little one no longer requires a gated play area, our house is very open plan so we can't use any of the regular gates for that) 5. Apparently it is also a very good teether. 6. Inconspicuous clour. 7. Easy to see the child playing inside the gated area. Cons 1. Instructions could be better. 2. Heavy (potential shipping, portability issue plus leaves imprints in soft tiles) 3. No way to keep the door safely open. 4. No wall plugs included for those of us who have brick walls.

I bought this and two extension panels (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000U5LXSS/) to set up on top of Baby Care Play Mat (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MY709TZ/), and we're really happy with the result. Our daughter has a nice bit of space to crawl around in, and she learned to stand up by pulling up on the bars. With the extensions, there's enough room one or even both of us to hang out with her and her toys. You can hang toys from the cross bar, too, which give baby fun stuff up high to reach for and play with. If you tighten the posts nice and snug, they'll stay put when you lean your adult body against it, so it's quite sturdy. If there's a downside, it's that it looks kind of like a cage. But what can ya do? We don't leave her by herself for more than a few mins, and we've got a baby monitor on it when we do. But it's nice to have a place you can set her and know she'll be alright and her playing will be contained.

My baby girl is growing faster than expected. She outgrew her bouncers and swings because she started sitting up early. She couldn't stay still in a standard traditional playard alone. At 5 months she began standing up really early. This gate has exceeded my expectations and with that said, I'm able to do house work and school work with 2 kids, in a safer and more convenient manner. This was worth the money.

We have all porcelain tile floors. Our first toddler surprised us by banging her head on the hard floors intentionally when she was upset. That was before we knew there were protective foam head helmets available. It was traumatizing as a first time parent who had helped care for 4 younger siblings and never observed this behavior. She is safely older now and reads 2+ grade levels ahead of her age, so thankfully no permanent damage was incurred. However, with the gift of our new baby 6 years later, I decided to take no chances that she too might like to head-bang on the tile. I went about finding a solution that would allow our baby to have play and explorative freedom, while allowing me to safely do laundry, start meals, and accomplish computer work between spending time with the girls. Searching Amazon for gates options with Prime shipping, I first saw the North States plastic play fences made in the USA (and bought one is those in pink for outside and portable play) and then the other brand of metal baby fences sold on Amazon that are white and may be made in Mexico. After reading many other reviews, and watching videos on you-tube, I chose the North States superyard for its off-white/ pale taupe sand color, it's anticipated durability based on other reviews, and their Prime shipping availability at a fair (IE- non-inflated) Prime cost. To create a play area that would last several years as baby develops, I decided to go with an 8X10 foot design based on standard rug sizes. To ensure the play area would protect our daughter during falls as she learned to stand, walk and tumble, I ordered two 2" thick 4' wide X 10' long gymnastics mats with Velcro sides from Amazon Prime. They fit together perfectly to make an 8X10 base safe for falling. I then searched for a lightweight, non skid rug to go on top of the vinyl covered gymnastics mats, so the area would be pretty and soft for crawling. It took 4 full sets of the gates as sold on Amazon + 2 sets of extension panels to make an perfect 8X10 play-yard. If you have 1-2 free walls to attach to, you could accomplish the same play space with perhaps 2 sets + 1 set of extension panels. Be sure to measure first . From support to support, each non-gated panel and each gated panel is approximately 24" wide. We do not have any available walls, so it required far more investment in the fence/ gates. A tip that "Wally World" aka WalMart sells a bundle of the fence with gate + 2 extension panels for less that shipped and arrived within a week. I bought some of my North States gates from Amazon and some from WalMart. They are identical. The completed 8X10' play-yard with 2 entry gates required 18 panels total including the 2 gates. 4 panels along each 8' end, and 5 panels along each 10' side. It has plenty of room for my husband, myself and our 7 year daughter to all be in the play area with baby at the same time. My husband has found that with the gymnastics mats beneath and the rug on top, it's a nice place for him to nap while baby plays. Our daughter loves spending time in the cheerful area to play with her baby sister. Creating an 8X10' play-yard with the North States fences/ gates (the metal ones are sadly made in China rather than USA) + gymnastics mats + Glamour rug (from Amazon it's more of a thin mat which I'll review separately) was quite an investment. However, given that our whole family is enjoying playing in the area as baby learns to spread her wings, that baby will be able to play in it through at last age 3 without her head ever coming in contact with our tile, it's an investment I feel great about. The construction of the fences/ gates feel sturdy and the pale taupe (sand) color is attractive in our main living area. My husband put the 4 sections of fence together in a short amount of time he says it's not that easy to rearrange the gate placement once it's together, so you may want to plan that out before installation. So if you're a working at home Mom or Dad, have multiple young children with a full day of home care, hard floors, or all of the above...... Perhaps my 8 X 10 play area solution will be an helpful sfor your family too.
