So far so good! Really heats up quickly
So far so good! Really heats up quickly.... dropped it on my leg and now have a big burn so use caution! Used the round tip for my whole piece and didn't run into any issues. First time using wood burning tools and I loved how easy it was to use. Great product.

So far so good!
This is simple to use and works great. I've only used two tips but so far the universal tip works best to get clean lines

Works fine, "light-duty," inexpensive, definitely gets hot.
This Woodburner Pen feels a bit "light duty" to me, but it does get the job done. And maybe it will work for a long time, I'll probably never know about that because my woodburning requirements are few. But I would suggest that you be careful and not drop this on the floor or other hard surfaces. I've pulled mine onto the floor twice from the weight of the electric cord pulling on the woodburner. The cord is heavier than the woodburner. I half-expected it to be broken ... but ... so far, so good. I like the small "stand" that comes with this woodburner ... it makes for a convenient place to lay the woodburner down in between "burns" so that you don't burn the table that you're working on. And I like the "on / off" switch better than plugging and unplugging the woodburner, like my last woodburner. And, as other reviewers have mentioned, this woodburner does get hot ... which ... yes ... IS what it's supposed to do. You'll want to be vigilant using this piece of equipment, supervise kids closely if you let them use this, and be careful that the cat or dog (or, like in my case, your knee!) doesn't hit the cord and pull the woodburner onto the floor.

Good Pen for Hobbyists/Beginners!
Came quickly, packaged safely. As for the product itself? I'm satisfied! As someone who is entirely new to woodburning: this was easy to use and seemed pretty simple! It does get hot when you're holding it, though, so I use a curling iron glove to ensure that I don't accidentally burn myself. It heats up quickly and has no smell, I'm super happy!

Easy for 1st timers
We bought this tool after the wood burner we purchased from harbor freight broke after less than 2 uses. So far, I've been very pleased! We used it to burn my family's last name on a piece of wood, and just traced a stencil with a pencil and then burned the pencil tracings. Super easy to use, very user friendly, and I like that it has the on/off switch (though I always unplug it too) just for a little extra peace of mind. I've used two of the tips so far, both of which have been easy to use and figure how. Looking forward to many future burning crafts with this tool!

An Adequate Burner for My Needs.
I purchased this woodburner so I could mark fret positions on a slide cigar box guitar. I tested it as soon as it arrived. After plugging it into a power outlet, I found that the unit did heat up within a reasonable amount of time (maybe three minutes). I was able to burn multiple marks on a piece of poplar without any problems. It does come with several tips, most of which I have not used. The woodburner is not bulky and is easy to hold in your hand. I think for $10.99 it is a good buy.

Love this Gizmo
Hi! I found this handy little tool to be rather wonderful :) The other reviews are true regarding it getting hot over time and that the cord can sometimes get in the way, but the latter is merely a position adjustment where laying it out on the table next to the project worked best for me. It is a woodBURNing tool, so you can expect it to get hot after the passage of some time. With the unit I have I found that it occurred a couple of hours into the project but that it seemed to correlate well with my taking a little break and looking over the progress of my work, so it didn't hamper me at all. But if that's when you find that you really are getting rolling with the project they sell rubber cots precisely for this reason that you might want to consider purchasing. Another point to consider is the smell. Some people may find the smell in their rooms/homes of burnt wood to be annoying, so work in a well-ventilated space (maybe using a fan?) or out-of-the way area (also great for concentrating). For the novice, I would suggest starting with bits of wood, even backyard scrap, to give you a chance to warm up (no pun intended :) ) and get the feel for how you handle the tool (its warmth, the different tips, the cord placement, the effects differing pressures exert) and the large or detailed marks you can create. That will give you more confidence and a better feel for how you handle each project. Then before you start on a project, get a feel for the wood grain of the project itself by working alittle on the back of the piece. Different types of wood burn differently. This is a wonderful craft, when you consider the enormous possiblities. Another thing to consider is that you don't have to stop with just the woodburning. This may sound strange, but I use professional grade colored pencils to add dimension to the piece (i.e. the woodburning adds permanence, color and tactile quality while the pencils add vibrancy to specific areas or the entire piece depending on what you want to achieve) then I spray the project with several coats of lacquer. Remember, it's YOUR creativity and YOUR unique style that you are bringing to an otherwise plain piece of wood giving it a whole new purpose. Experiment and allow YOUR inner artist to dictate - work on garage sale furniture, storage boxes, maybe add watercolors, or glue different pieces of material/fabrics/gems to parts of the project - whatever strikes your fancy. Woodburning is a true craft requiring both dedication and whimsy but unlike most crafts the pieces you create last a long time. Hope my review helped - hope it wasn't too long :)...

Works Better than Expected
I bought this product to experiment with wood-burning spoons to give as part of a Christmas present. I figured for the price if I didn't like wood burning or if the tool didn't work, it wasn't much of a loss. However, the tool works much better than I expected it to for the price. It takes a few minutes to heat up, but with my novice skills I was slow moving with the tool anyways. It comes with a small stand - my advice is to tape the stand down so that the tool doesn't make the stand slide. Let the tool cool down a few minutes before trying to change the tips (WITH PLIERS!).

Worked great. Good value.
Excellent purchase. The price was reasonable, the device worked great and it was very easy to use. The shipment was packaged well, and delivered on time. The only thing to be noted is that packaging said if you grip the shaft of the iron too hard, it will get very hot. Regardless of the pressure you use, if you use the iron for a ling time, it will get HOT! I had to use a Nomex glove as a barrier. Any thicker glove would work.

Nice
Replacement for one that would no longer take attachment tips. (Perhaps I should have read and followed instructions on prior unit--let it cool before changing tips!). Old tips fit this unit, too. The on/off switch is far easier than unplugging/replugging. I recommend wearing a glove to protect against heat and burns and using pliers to grip tips even though you think they've cooled before changing them--do you really want to find out with your fingers? ;-)
