• Twelve (12) 4 fl. oz. bottles of PuriLens Plus solution
  • Same formulation as Unisol 4
  • No preservatives. Simply buffered saline.

If you used to use the "Unisol 4 Preservative Free Saline Solution" this is an excellent replacement. Not as inexpensive as that product was in drug stores but don't even think of wasting your money being gouged by sellers with the last remaining bottles of that discontinued product. Purilens Plus Solution (12 Pack) is a high quality product with an easier to use cap and a nozzle that controls dispensing the solution much better.

I have been trying to wear contacts for the past several months and no matter what brand I've tried or how good the fit was, my eyes would just get foggy, red and irritated within the first hour or two. My Dr suspected some sort of allergy or reaction to solutions, so I tried almost every one out there. Even hydrogen peroxide, which is supposed to be preservative free once neutralized, caused some kind of reaction with my eyes. While preservative free, even those systems still have a surfactant in them that maybe I reacted to. As a last ditch effort, I decided to go 100% preservative free and bought the Purilens UV system which uses this saline. I didn't expect this to be any better since I figured my eyes just weren't compatible with contacts, but I was really shocked when the lenses just disappeared into my eyes. I can now wear lenses all day long (12+ hrs) with crisp and clear vision. Even better, the UV system works in 15 minutes so you can take the lenses out for a shower or break and put them back in. I'm not sure why this isn't a more popular method since it's fast, has no chemicals and seems to work very well. The saline is packaged great and the bottle has an excellent opening that makes it easy to control the flow. Since it is just pure saline, I feel nothing when it goes in my eyes.

When Unisol went off the markets, I went into immediate panic as my lenses can only be inserted with preservative free solutions. I was ever so thrilled to find this product, which is such an improvement over Unisol on many levels. First, the bottles do not leak as Unisol did. Second, they are delivered with a small card for TSA reflecting it is a medical product should they give you grief over having liquids in your carry on. Lastly, the pricing is right on target if not cheaper than Unisol ever was!

I bought this because Unisol 4 was discontinued. I was worried it might not work the same as the Unisol. But, it does! I am relieved and happy to have found the PuriLens. My sensitive eyes have no problems with it, and the bottle seems even easier to use than the Unisol (the initial hole-puncturing process is easier and has better and more consistent results than with Unisol). I use extended-wear soft contact lenses and use the PuriLens as eye drops, which is how I used the Unisol 4, because years ago an optometrist recommended I use it as eye drops since my eyes reacted badly to thimerosal and other preservatives in standard eye drops made for contact lens wearers. I don't use it for anything other than eye drops, unless a situation arises where I have to rinse a lens, and that hasn't come up yet since I got the PuriLens, but I imagine it will work just fine. I don't use it for cleaning or storage as I don't need to do that (I wear my day-and-night lenses for a month, without taking them out, then just throw them away). I use the PuriLens as eye drops twice a day, when I get up and when I go to bed, and it's great for that -- wish I had discovered it sooner! I think it's actually superior to the old Unisol 4, overall. Only one thing, it says to discard 15 days after opening, instead of 30 days like the Unisol, but I can live with that. I will definitely be ordering more!

I started using this product for the first time after all the aerosol cans of spray saline disappeared. I used the spray saline every day as an eye wash (in the morning before putting my contact lenses in), as an eye wetter, and to rinse the lenses after soaking overnight in the disinfecting solution. The spray can was the only saline product that didn't make my eyes sting. This PuriLens product appeared to have the same formulation the spray cans had, so I thought I'd try it. Perfect! This saline feels the same in my eye as what came out of the spray can -- no stinging eyes. I'm really glad I found this. This product makes a lot of sense to me, too. Since the plastic bottles don't have the same environmental isolation the spray cans have, they split the volume over several smaller containers to keep the exposure to bacteria down. Several 4oz bottles, vs 12oz cans are easier to travel with as well. This saline solution does exactly what I need it to do and offers a solid alternative to the spray cans. I'm very glad I ran across this option.

Perfect substitution for Unisol 4 which is being discontinued. PuriLens is even better for filling scleral lenses because it drips rather than squirts and doesn't make bubbles in the lenses. It does not irritate my eyes at all. I use PuriLens to fill my scleral lenses and rinse them. More if it dispenses than Unisol, so I probably use more of it, but it rinses easier. I am delighted to have discovered PuriLens. This is now my saline solution of choice for my scleral lenses

I spent a lot of time looking for this product. A no preservative saline in convenient sized bottles? Simple, you would think, but surprisingly hard to find. If that's what you want, you've found it. I am happy with it. I use in my eyes, and to clear nasal passages as well, where preservatives are just as important to avoid. Let me say something about shelf-life here, because there seems to be a lot of concern. It's unpreserved salt water. Yes, of course things can grow in salt water, obviously -- look at the ocean -- and you don't want to encourage that. But if you don't introduce something to this that can grow in it, nothing will. It does not go bad all on its own. I personally have opened bottles of this very product and used them, yes, in my eyes, for well longer than 15 days, more like months, without any issues. I trust the unopened bottles for longer than that. Yes, we need to be careful with our eyes and what we put in them. But do realize that your eyes, like mine, are not sterile. They are constantly exposed to all sorts of nasty things that float in the air, that kick up from the ground, that we rub into them, and somehow they survive. This is a fine product, I've been using it for some time, and I have no hesitation recommending it for eyes and nose.

This is great stuff... Replaces Unisol perfectly, I have to use preservative free eye wash..its perfect...so "comfortable" .The only drawback is the puncture in the top that you make by twisting the cap on ..it makes a rather big hole...so,you have to be careful not to squeeze too hard. I work for a veterinarian...so I was able to get a 20 gauge hypodermic needle to make my puncture and it is a much better sized hole! (just be sure to not screw the top, back on too tight..that's what makes the big hole!). All in all its a great product at a very reasonable price. The product I received had over 1&1/2 year dating...so it won't expire on you .

a lot does come out compared to unisol, which can make this seem a little wasteful. i've had unisol spray in different directions, as another person pointed out; however, really digging the cap in usually solved that issue. i do like that you get more bottles with the order, even if it seems a bit excessive. this should last me awhile. i'm so grateful it exists as alcon seems to want to discontinue any products that are worth a damn.

Was an Arm and Hammer Simply saline 12oz user but A&H discontinued the product. Purilens is the only good alternative now that Unisol is discontinued too. So far it has been fine and it seems equivalent to Unisol. This is the only type of saline that I have found I can use that doesn't cause some type of allergy or sensitivity that results in dry eyes, shorter contact wear times, redness, etc. It is very expensive likely because it costs more to make as it does not have the chemical preservatives that the other "sensitive eyes" formulations have. Would prefer a 12 oz solution for home use at a more reasonable price but for now I am glad we have this option.
