5 star if you cant afford PVS 14 or similar gen3
Ok.... I spent countless hours reading reviews on night vision and understanding the limits of the generations etc.... Sure....Id love a pvs 14 or similar gen 3 but its just not in my budget. Ive read every review on this scope and the similar yukons so had a good idea of what I was getting in to. This scope has surpassed some expectations and fell short of others.... First off I got this scope as a prepardness item. If I got this for hunting hogs or coyotes I would be passionate to say this scope would be fantastic. But for a prep item I would recommend save them dollars for a gen 3 or at least gen 2+. In my suburban settings....the view in this scope surpassed my expectations. The field of view is decent and the resolution and clarity were alot better than expected. Also the fisheye isnt really noticed unless zoomed all the way out which isnt really needed. Thats the good. Now for the bad..... In passive mode (no IR illumination) it honestly only lets you view a tiny bit deeper into shadowed areas. Everything else seems about the same as what you can see naked eye but green. Maybe it gives 10% better vision. This was in a dark backyard with a few porch lights and a street light a block over. I knew gen 1 is not good in passive but expected a bit more. Now with the IR illuminator on, night becomes day....great right? Well ....yes if your just going to use this for hunting. If its a prep item and planned use is to scout your property that IR illuminator puts off a very bright red light at the lens of the IR and an intruder etc would easily see it. Its like looking at a lit up alarm clock in the middle of the night although it has to be pointed straight at you to see it- it still is very noticeable. I have a T20 ir flashlight in 850nm and it has a little more throw than the stock illuminator but it too has a very bright red glare when pointed at you. So..... I bought a 940nm led pill to put in the T20. It reduced the red glare by about 60-70% but when looking in firefield scope the light output is about 60-70% less than with the 850nm led in the T20. The firefield scopes illuminator is much brighter than the 940nm in the t20. I would skip 940nm as i bet you could get same result putting some window tint behind lens and just use the 850nm. Im going to try a 850nm ir filter on the end of the t20 with the 850nm led and hope its reduces the red glare some. The illuminated reticle looks good and the adjustment is nice and smooth and the scope seems very well made. People having problems with the mount need to stop, analyze the locking mechanism and understand it can be adjusted to fit any weaver or picatinny rail just fine. Push the lever side in and the opposite side in and the cross shaped nut will pop out and can be loosened or tightened to make adjustments. So....... for a gen 1 I give it 5 stars. With the IR illumination it will let you see better than I imagined but if stealth is important, that red glare is an easy target. The build quality and performance with IR on is very good though! Its better than no NV and would be ideal for hunting at night .... i would just recommend an extra 850nm IR flashlight for longer distances. I think its a good buy for the quality at this price.

Great for .22 pellet rat gun
Fantastic, I bought an IR flashlight to use with it but it doesn't need it. The built in light is plenty for what I'm using it for. My only complaint is during daylight use its hard to make out shapes in shade (squirrels). But I'm thrilled that I can still use it in daylight with the cap closed. Its great for night hunting: 2 dead rats the first night.

Here's solution to Quick Mount concerns?
Had mine about 2 yrs now to see at night! NOTE: for those having problems with how it mounts on their gun= you can fine tune the WIDTH of the "quick clamp jaw" by pushing the jaw end way in (fully compressing the spring) and then on the other side (just under the quick clam handle) is a 4 pronged adjuster that you rotate to adjust for diff rail widths or tightness. Let me now is this helps?

It is a great optic for the price range.
I am no expert in NVRS. I shoot mostly air rifles. This 7 shot group was taken from a second story window @ aproxamately 20 yards. This is a 12" target. There was almost full moonlight. The rifle I'm using this on, is the Walmart exclusive Crosman F4. The unit is heavy and large so it makes mobility a factor. This scope is built well, all the switches and dials feel sturdy. The reticle brightness adjustability is very useful. The mount is not a problem and the instructions inform you how to adjust it to properly lock to the rail. This is my first time using any sort of night vision optics so I didn't know what to expect. After using it for 2 nights I have to say I'm very impressed. But like anything else it requires training and practice, training your eye to see a completely foreign image is strange at first. The shoot and see targets are easy to see and sight your gun at night. I'm using this optic for rat pesting, the illuminator is good for the distances I will be shooting so I have no complaint about that. I like that it powers up instantly. The scope eyepiece remains lit after it is switched off so it can be used without heavy battery consumption if activity is spotted quickly switch the reticle and the IR illuminator on. Overall for the price I feel this is a great buy.

Although I have not taken it on my hog hunt yet I did take it out at night just to check it out and I was amazed how clear it is
I was considering purchasing an Armasight 2Gen night vision rifle scope which would have costs over $1500 for which I was going to use for my annual hog hunt. I just couldn't justify spending that much for a scope I was going to use once a year. My buddy turned me on to this scope and I was sceptical at first until I read the reviews. I decided to role the dice and purchas this scope since it was less than $300. I figured what the heck. Although I have not taken it on my hog hunt yet I did take it out at night just to check it out and I was amazed how clear it is out to 100yds. I was pleasantly surprised to say the least. My preliminary review I gave it a 5 star rating because of the clarity and quality construction of this item. I don't think you can beat it for the money. I had no problem mounting the scope.

I can see clearly now
For the money, and my limited use, this is hard to beat as a real value. Construction is sold. Material fit and finish is first rate. Night vision, in my limited experience, is superior. It may be Gen 1, but it is modern Gen 1. It works. In IR mode, batteries go pretty fast but and external secondary source with rechargeable cells is a solution for that. I found the mounting system to be adequate if not above average. The only small complaint I would have is that mounting the unit back on the receiver of my AR does hamper charging handle access just a bit. Nothing I am unable to live with. A handle extension will address the issue. Just be aware of it.

Why didn't I buy this sooner?
This is by far the best Gen 1 scope on the market. It is very clear and with the IR it is easy to take coyotes and hogs out to 200 yards in total darkness. My shooting buddy liked mine so well that he bought one as well. I can not say enough good stuff about this scope. I spent almost 20 years in the Army and I remember the Gen 1 NV scopes, and they were not as clear and sharp as this is. Here are some things to note, do's and don'ts if you will. Do read the instructions at least twice before ever removing the scope from its case. This scope is very rugged and well built but some of the components can be easily damaged by just a few seconds of sunlight, so read the instructions and make sure you understand them. Don't use it in the daylight, there is a reason it is called Night Vision. It does have a cap for daylight use but clarity is marginal at best through the cap. The cap is more for use at twilight. I have spent more money for optics and gotten way less than with this scope. For a .223/5.56 or the 300 BLK this scope will do all you need it to do. I have no problem seeing a 3 inch black bulls eye at 100 yards with the 3x magnification. Just make sure the target that you use is black when you are zeroing it or target shooting, as black will show up the best. Forget using any target that is of a shade of red. It will be hard if not impossible to see in the scope because it will not reflect back the IR light like other colours will. Keep these few things in mind and you should enjoy your scope tremendously. I know I do.

Best Gen 1 Scope on the Market
This is a great night vision scope, albeit a Gen 1 system. It is an absolute must for feral hog killing! Do not purchase if you expect to see 500 yards in the dark of night. However, if you want to kill predators/hogs at 125-150 yards in the dark, buy it immediately. Well constructed sight. The mounting method takes a bit of work, but if treated with respect it will function well for you. The IR light works on AA batteries, saving a ton of money over other systems that require specialized batteries. The reticle can be "ghosted" to a point that is great for night hunting. Very good system.

Excellent IR Scope!
Absolutely amazing for my .22 and night time critter problems! Picatinny quick release works perfect. Grouping is nice and tight at less than 1/2" at 60 yards. IR is nice and bright. Lights up over 150yds away depending on weather conditions. Animal eyes appear a bright neon green, perfect for headshots. For larger hunting areas, I use a single 96 IR LED flood light. It is 12v and runs off it's own battery. Mounted on a tripod, and has an 1200ft wireless on/off remote. Works extremely well. Almost military grade or better when hunting a large field.

Product packaging, delivery, and setup.
Ordered this scope used/like new for $239.00 on 5/25/2019. Arrived 5/29/2019 as quoted due to holiday weekend. Product and packaging appeared new and not used at all. Mounted simply, quickly, and easily on my crosman dpms full auto BB rifle. I've seen reviews with concerns about how this scope mounts and I can't understand why unless those individuals are not using the proper mount. It has an adjustable lighted red cross hair recticle and a small FOV, but not shooting large targets at long distances. Will be using it tonight for ratting @ distances of 25-35ft. Oh yeah, the two double AA batteries were included. Will update 5/30/2019 after this nights session! Update 5/31/2019. Sent it back (at no cost) would not focus. Really wanted it to work, thought the design was good and well made. Could have returned for another, but did not. Maybe if I had bought a brand new one it would not have had the same issue. Easy to sight with the red illuminated recticle. I was still able to hit a quarter size bullseye a few times at 32ft. but the sight beyond the crosshairs being blurry was uncomfortable to my eyes and not being able to do anything about that was the deal breaker.
