We were advised to purchase this as a "prerequisite" to moving back down south. It is pretty much plug and play. The packaging was nice and protective, only one minor scratch on the side. Remove all of the styrofoam, and once you think you've got it all, check again. We found a few pieces behind the burner toward the bottom that you wouldn't normally see. Had we turned it on, they would have melted and caused quite the mess. Our first meal was country style ribs, and you set the temp, add the chips, and wait. We soaked our chips in a gallon zip lock for about an hour before adding them. They smoke a little better and also last a little longer. Ribs turned out amazing after 6 hours of slow heat. Next were bone in chicken thighs. We soaked them for about two hours in a shallow pan with half water and a dry rub, tossed them in the smoker and about 4 hours later they turned into the best chicken we've ever tasted. Couldn't ask for a better all in one unit. No need for the window model, you honestly don't need it. Would suggest this to any smoker newbie in a heart beat.

Horrible quality. I bought it in February, and the heating element broke. Used it about 6 times. Really bad. Thought for sure the smoker was still under warranty, but of course with poor product come a poor warranty. 30 days? A thirty day warranty is for a crappy toaster. Correction then, 90 day warranty. Still not covered. UPDATE: I ordered a new burner, and I took the grill apart to put it in. BEWARE!!! All of the bolts/screws used on the inside are not stainless steel!!! In the few short months I've owned it they've already rusted, and I keep a cover on my grill. I had to replace them all with stainless steel screws. Look on their website. Even the 90 day warrant excludes rust! Lol, no wonder.

I have never smoked anything in my life, but this smoker made it easy. I don't think smoking can get any easier than using this electric smoker with remote control. Set up the smoker add your wood chips and water and load it with your meat selection and set the temperature. You can use the remote to see what the temperature is as well as to check the remaining time. The only thing I would change is the chip loader. It's great that you don't have to open the door to add more chip. However, the cylinder shaped chip loader is hot when you remove it and therefore difficult to add wood chips without burning your fingers. If any of the wood chips are sticking out beyond the cylinder, it can be difficult to load. Other than that, this thing is a breeze. I've gone from never having smoked a thing in my life, to a fish smoking, fish dip making fool. I love it!

Best and easiest smoker I have ever had!!! I am so happy I bought this smoker instead of the others out there. My only complaint is I didn't get the bigger one. People were complaining about the glass being useless and it gets dirty the first time, well I say to that.......CLEAN IT! I simply get a scraper razor and dish soap water and clean it each time I use it and it has stayed as clean as the first day duh! I will say the bottom rack is kind of useless because it is to close to the burner hence why I want the bigger unit. I am amazed at how good my food is! I have tried and tried to use a regular wood smoker and could never keep the right temp even though I had to babysit the smoker ALL day. With this I turn it on, get the optional side smoker going (highly recommend you buying the optional side unit! But thats a different review), put the meat in and let it do its thing. This morning before work I put 3 racks of ribs in it, set it to 230 deg. and left I came back 4 hours later and they were ready to wrap them up! No babysitting at all. This smoker holds the temp very nicely. My brother in Law has a fancy overpriced pellet smoker that starts with a "T" and it makes good food no doubt but he has complained so much about having to babysit it while it cooks, I have watched the temp. go as high as 300 and as low as 140 after opening it to spray the meat. It takes about 15 mins to get back to the right temp and kind of keep the correct temp. He is the one that told me not to buy the same one he has. Cleanup is easy too. I just take the racks out and the holders for the racks, all the sear plates and throw them in the washer, no scrubbing at all. The only issue I have had is this last time I used it the built in temp. probe stopped working. It only reads 310 deg. but I never trusted it anyway so I am just using the same remote probe I have always used, not a biggy for me, but might be for you. This smoker makes you a pro over night. I have never had ribs as good as the ones I make with this smoker. My son in law is a rib junky and gets ribs at every restaurant he goes to and has told me he has never had ribs as good as the ones I make. That made me feel really good considering I have ruined every set of ribs I have cooked before buying this smoker. If you are looking for a good smoker that holds the temp perfect then this one is the right one. I would deffinatly buy another on despite the probe not working.

I'm not sure that I have really anything bad to say about this smoker. I did purchase this as a gift for someone last year and from then I knew that I had to jump into the party and get one of my own. My wife purchased this for me for Christmas this past year 2015 and I got to use it yesterday for the second time. The packaging this came it was top notch, all of the racks were taped up very nicely to prevent any wiggle or damage to the internal heating element. I actually read the instructions which I’m glad I did it because there is a “seasoning” process which should be done to burn off any traces of machine oil and prepare the smoker for its maiden voyage. The first attempt to use this was 4 boneless chicken breasts. Needless to say it was a fail and pretty bad, but I honestly think this is because smokers are really designed for bone in meat. The chicken we purchased had zero fat on it so it got dried up and I got a little discouraged. I did a substantial amount of reading on endless blogs out there and decided to give it another go around yesterday which was Easter 2016. Now, I do a lot of grilling in the summer time at least 3 or 4 nights a week so I know my way around a BBQ using natural gas. One Item that has always been a little daunting is ribs, I have never made ribs before as I’ve just always thought it to be a harder item to prepare and cook and cook them right. So in my efforts to step up on my man game a bit, I decided that yesterday I would venture into making ribs on the smoker. Now, you can read all the recipes in the world out there and they will all tell you different things and methods so just find one and go for it. I ended up modifying the one I found online so to each their own. The end result IMHO was that of a competition worthy result, maybe not first place but at least in the top 5. I’m now even more eager to give this another go and it brightened my spirits up a bit knowing that it actually is possible. I will say that cleaning this is not the most fun part at all, but if you take care of this product it will withstand lots and lots of cooked meals. You cannot use any abrasive chemicals or rough sponge so my recommendation is to grab yourself a few beers, grab some tunes and a roll of paper town with some water and clean away. I also recommend wearing gloves while cleaning as it will get quite messy, take your time and it will be well worth the time spent to keep it clean. Only minor complaints I have which are nitpicky is the controller for the temp and time. It does not feel super stable and is only held on by two screws in the back of the plastic board and held center by a screw on the top of the unit. It does not sit flush but then again you don’t mess with it while cooking so it is only a minor one. The other complaint I have is I’m a tall guy and this thing sits pretty low to the ground; I will build my own stand for this over the summer to raise this up a bit without compromising the center of gravity. Overall I couldn’t be happier with this item and again, cleaning should prolong the life of the unit.

Loving this smoker so far. I just got into smoking and the Masterbuilt is helping me look like a pro. Temperature gauge is reading accurately - tested it out with another thermometer and both were in tune. Sturdy overall and not that heavy to carry. I think it would be better if there was even a small handle to help move the smoker around when needed, like storing it inside than leaving it outside with a cover. Box that the package came in was a little beat up, but the smoker itself was wrapped well inside - same with the grill grates, pans, etc,. I've used it twice last week and I've already improved my cooking "skills" with making fall of the bone baby back ribs. As for cleaning - I did take the recommendation of other reviewers and did not leave any additional grates that were not needed in the smoker. Also, would recommend lining the water pan as well as the drip pan with aluminum foil as this would save yourself from a lot of scrubbing. I'm liking this smoker a lot but a part of me feels like I should have just paid a little more to get the one with the glass door as it would let me see how the bark on the meat is coming along as well as wow factor for guests. Only reason I got this one without the glass door is that I've read the temperature holds better in this model. Who knows, I might give this used one down the road as a gift and get the glass door one for myself once I get better at smoking meats!

I did hours of research and talked to many people before choosing what would be my first smoker. I thought about charcoal and gas smokers but they just seemed like more of a hassle than electric. This seemed to be the most favorably reviewed electric smoker on numerous websites and for the price I figured it was worth a shot...I have no regrets. This constantly turns out perfect brisket, ribs, and pulled pork. Have yet to do sausage, chicken or turkey. Setup took about 20 minutes as there is a lot of plastic wrap and packaging to remove. The smoker also requires a 3 hour 'seasoning' run - no big deal. One thing that is very important to know about electric smokers is that they do not give as pronounced of a smoke ring as other smokers. It is important to remember that the smoke ring is not any indication of taste or flavor. To me, having the smoke ring is not as important as being able to "set it and forget it" while guaranteeing a delicious product after 12 hours of smoking. I highly recommend this smoker - especially to beginners or to people that don't want to babysit their smoker.

Great smoker! Performed exactly as expected, held temp well and shut down on cue. Not so for the novice operator, too much of a good thing (smoke) and dry water pans are not conducive to tender moist end product, luckily the unit is pretty forgiving and all items were edible. Expect next batch to be much improved, provided the operator revises his procedure. Shelves etc easy to remove and clean.

NICE SMOKER,, our first test was turning a bunch of dear meat into jerky ,, turned out fantastic and much to my amazement the trays and racks cleaned up quite easily as well,,,, great way to hang out together and socialize while smoking meat !,,, thanks

If you want to smoke Meats this is your machine keeps a very accurate temperature very easy to operate and the food is delicious
