Darling, but Paint Chips

This Melissa and Doug food set is an adorable toy and really sparks the imagination. I would give it 5 stars but the paint has chipped in a short amount of time. I will keep it and not complain because it is so darling and they are heavy duty. Do not let one land on your toe- it really really hurts! The items go really cute with the shopping cart I ordered and kids really seem to like it. It has gotten a lot of use! I would definitely buy it again if they could fix the paint. I would never buy the plastic play food as those always seem to get dented and look trashed after a few weeks. Wooden toys will last you for many years. I recommend getting other kinds of foods from Melissa and Doug like the freezer food and the canned food to go with. Melissa and Doug make some very cute toys that will last until your grandchildren are playing with them. I like how the fridge food is all sorts of things, bologna, ice cream, orange juice, waffles, yogurt, cheese and butter. How cute! Just like things that Mom and Dad get when they go to the store. I recommend that many of your child's toys be Melissa and Doug. They make their toys to last, and they are very imaginative and original. I like that they don't make noise, because so many do these days. Noisy toys get really old really fast and batteries are actually kind of expensive to be constantly replacing. Too many toys these days are becoming so technical. These wooden toys are something that will never go out of style and will be loved by all.

Another great Melissa and Doug product

Great product! I want to purchase produces that I believe will last several years. This is one of those products that will definitely last. I love the detail. My son loves to "cook" in his kitchen and he is always using the Melissa and Doug stuff well before the plastic kitchen food. Bottom line: Would I recommend this product YES Would I buy it for a gift YES Would I buy it again...No need... because I know it will last for years :-)

Cute to the max!

My three year old LOVES her play kitchen. She is constantly making us soup, cupcakes and ice cream. I got her the Melissa and Doug Cardboard food boxes last year and she has pretty much destroyed them all. Not right away of course but jumping on them, tearing them, and giving them to her ten month old brother to chew really did them in over the past year. The first to go for some reason, was the refrigerator boxes of milk, butter and cheese. I saw this set during a lightening deal and I would have gladly paid the full price for it, it's that awesome. They are all wood, much like most of the Melissa and Doug stuff we own and the size is perfect for three year old hands. All of the items are smaller than their real life counterparts but your child will probably not notice. If they are anything like mine, they'll be too busy making us dinner to care. Perfect food set that will definitely last!

Mommy loves it as much as the little princess!

I ordered eight Melissa and Doug food sets for my almost three year old daughter. They came in yesterday and although most were for presents, I wanted her to have the fridge and pantry set for her new KidKraft retro kitchen. They are adorible! Although she has NO idea what bologna is, she loved it anyway! It is my favorite piece, just because it is so darn cute! I searched the internet before purchase to see the actual size and it is quite large! LOVE IT, the set would fill her old step two fridge to the max, but in her 'full size' KidKraft one there is lots of room for mommy to add a lot more things. Very realistic. She knew what each piece (other than bologna) was and what to do with it, no promt from me! The bologna had a defect, a chuck of wood was coming off the edge. I called M & D and their customer service is AWESOME! I told them I just wanted to let them know I was fine with fixing it myself..but I know others would have been very upset. They said oh no we are going to replace it! How nice. It is good to know that there is still great customer service out there. And as always shipping from Amazon was awesome! My favorite place to shop, just ask my husband, he jokes about setting my preferences to NOT allow me on the site (I spend too much money!) Some reviews said it was too heavy, I think it is perfect! Ya if your child throws it at someones head it might hurt, but so wouldn't other not toy necessary items, shoes, dishes, remote controls etc. It's our job to teach them NOT to throw. This item is something I know I will save into her adulthood and pass on to her children. I am searching for our next M & D purchase!

Very good quality

Good quality wood. Well made and painted. These are going to last a long time. Perfect size for my 3 yr old's hands and play kitchen. My only complaint is they are a little heavy weight. If thrown they would do some damage.

Solid wood, long lasting.

You can't go wrong with Melissa and Doug! My kids love the toys and I love that they are solid and cannot be bent, torn, broken, smashed when the kids do what kids do -play with the them. 80%of our plastic food toys are broken from being played with.

Great, and very durable, pretend play food set

We have found that this is yet another great quality product from Melissa & Doug. Our family loves just about everything from Melissa & Doug, and this set was certainly no exception. Let's get into the details of this set. First, these are solid, relatively heavy items. This is mostly really good - these pieces are very nicely painted and feel like they're made from solid wood and will be durable not just for years, but perhaps generations. Parents with little ones prone to throwing objects should probably take note: these could cause a bit of damage when thrown! Certainly not a reason to skip this purchase, but just something to be aware of. This weight is directly connected to the product's durability, which should be outstanding. The paint and graphics are all oustanding. I appreciate that the items are all "generic" and not "brand name" - we didn't want to buy advertising for commercial food companies, and with this set, we didn't. Our kids really enjoy playing with these, filling their Step2 grocery cart with them, wheeling them around the house, emptying the cart while giving the items to family members, then collecting the items to start the cycle again. I also appreciate that these items are mostly ones that are part of our normal diet around the house, so should be instantly recognizable to the kids -- things like milk, butter and yogurt. Overall, this was a great purchase. The price was quite reasonable, quality excellent, and enjoyment factor high. You can't really ask for much more than that!

Pretend Play is a hit with these!

I bought this set to go along with our purchase of the KidKraft retro kitchen for our then 18 month old daughter. I've known the benefits of using wood toys in comparison to the plastic, so the excitement we had when we introduced this set to her was pretty high. Here we are, a year later, and she STILL plays with her fridge food set every day. I've been really enjoying getting my pretend fix in ice cream from her. :-) The paint has slightly chipped over time, but honestly, they look even better now. Highly recommend.

These Things Rock!

These are not cheap, plastic toy groceries. They are surprisingly heavy, made of wood, and beautifully painted. They will last a long time. My 2-year-old granddaughter, for whom they were bought along with the metal shopping cart sold by the same seller, loves these and so do her 3 cousins (ages 12, 11, and 6). She can use them not only in her new shopping cart but also in her play kitchen she will get in a few months!
