and by-far this is the best. My son easily recognized that turning the pages ...
My son got this for his 1st birthday, we have many of the vtech toys, and by-far this is the best. My son easily recognized that turning the pages would make the train talk, also he learned to put the blocks into the top chute, and loves riding it. It was almost like he knew how to use this toy the second we put it together. He plays with it CONSTANTLY, and my nieces and step-son all like to play with this too. It's very well made, though I wonder how the stickers that show the words (J is for Jam the sticker with the photo and word on the back) will stand up to baby drool, since the blocks go straight to his mouth. Other than that, this toy is very well made, and SUPER educational. Plus, he likes walking with the front engine piece of the train too. This was the best birthday gift he received, and I highly recommend it. In a sea of dissapointing expensive toys, this one really delivers exactly what it says!! A+++++++

Highly recommended
I got this as a gift from a friend when my son turned 1. This is a great toy and a long term enjoyment. At 1, he started to walk with support. You can take off the back end of the train and he used it as a walker. The little alphabet squares can be put in at the top of the train and it shoots out to the back. My son is 2 and a half and still plays with it from time to time. Now that he is a little older, he's learned to put the blocks in. It also gives a few directions like, "Find the letter A". This is great for when the child is ready. I can see my son playing with it for atleast another year or so. For the price, it's a great return. I've given it to a few of my friends and also recommended my friends who've asked what a good gift is. Every single person who's gotten it loved it and I always get compliments and thanks for referring me to this great product.

One of the must have toys. My son absolutely loves it!
This one is definitely one of the best purchases we made and we haven't even got our full use out of it yet. My son is only 15 months old so we still have lots of life in the toy since he doesn't really know his alphabet yet. Despite this, the toy is still very much worth it. He loves pushing the train around the house as a walker. He'll ride on the back. He can flip the pages for a long time and can even put the letter blocks in their slots. We even use the letter blocks for alphabet learning while eating in the high chair. This is all just what he can do so far with the toy until he can really start using the learning portion. The toy is well made and durable. My son has really crashed it all over the house and it is still going strong. The pages hold up quite well to a wild little boy and none of the sounds have really gotten extremely annoying like some of the other toys we have. This toy is an easy recommend.

Lots of features to keep different ages engaged.
So I'm deaf but my family has explained different aspects of the sounds this toy makes. It's a little boring, I guess, for adults. But, boy, does it thrill my son! Let me start by saying that this is perfect for smaller babies too. My son is a teeny boy because as a preemie he's not catching up height-wise yet. He's about 26 inches tall at 14 months old and loves standing unassisted and walking with assistance. The train engine detaches so easily from the car and he can totally handle zooming around holding on to the handles. Any toddler will love this, but it's great for babies who have to grow into the walking-the-ride (pedaling skills) part while practicing standing-to-walking. That gives babies double the enchanted period with this toy. So the noise...you get 13 letter blocks (one letter per side. 26 letters) and when you set it to talk rather than play music the slots on the bottoms of each letter correspond with the opposite side (the letter you SEE when the block is pressed into one of the 4 depressions next to the plastic book) so each letter is spoken out loud and the corresponding part in the book is "read out loud." So it's kind of fun for different stages in toddlerhood. The elephant makes noise when it's "honked." The toy "poops." The train car catches all the pooped-out letters for easy storage and can hold other toys. There's a silent setting. It's a toy that's definitely a good value. I really like the monkey/jungle toy by V-Tech too, and the backseat driver toy. We have had the cuddly spotted cow since before birth, and he adores it. The dog toy is currently meh in his opinion. Infantino musical toys are a real hit among adults and musically pleasing but at the moment my baby wants V-tech.

LOVE THIS TOY
I have been looking at the reviews and I am kind of getting frustrated. Parents are complaining about it being annoying, to loud, not having enough things or having to much. I think this toy is amazing! I bought this for my 8 month old because he is trying to walk so I though he would enjoy it and I was right!! He loves this toy. It is easy for him to push around! I love the book part and the side where you can put the blocks in. It is nice because it will grow with him. It teaches numbers colors and ABC's. My son learned how to say bye bye from it because it says it a lot. as long as my baby is happy I am happy, It's not to loud and it doesn't continuously sing/say the same think for 3 minutes like every one is saying! I defiantly recommend this toy!

Pleased with item in box.
Just given this weekend as a gift to a 1 yr. old and told he just loves it already. Was unhappy though that the box containing the item had been damaged in several places; checked it without going inside the box but seems it was okay. Still not happy with giving such a nice gift in a damaged box. Thank you though for the affordable price.

Trust me, just buy it.
Over the years I've bought 5 or 6 of these as the go to gift for kids turning 1 year old, including my god son. It's never been met with disappointment. There is so much going on here for the money! Plenty to do even with the sound off or if the batteries run out. The blocks are easy for little hands to handle but not so small that you have to live in fear when walking through the living room in the dark. I've been impressed with all the VTech items I've bought over the years but the Alphabet Train is the best!

Would purchase again!
My daughter received this for her 1st birthday and is fairly pleased with it. I will say a lot of the functions for it are more for older children (being able to put the correct letter in the correct spot). She can already walk so this won't help her with that, but she does enjoy sitting on it and being pulled around and she likes the music. The blocks go in this little spot on the top of the engine and shoot out into the caboose which she finds hilarious. I also have a three year old who also thinks its great so overall I would say it was a good buy. Easy to put together (will need a phillips screwdriver), seemingly durable, starter batteries come with, won't entertain the kids for long but isn't an incredible large toy that can be taken outside.

Awesome Toy!
I bought this train for my son's first birthday. He instantly fell in love, and still plays with it daily a year later. Whenever other kids come over, this is the hot ticket item. I love that it is educational and teaches him letters, numbers, colors, songs, and stories. My son loves to take his stuffed animals for rides on his train, and he loves to store extra toys in the block bin at the back of the train. Pros: Educational Volume adjuster or you can turn off the sound and they can still ride the train around with no noise. (I have not done this, though, as the songs do not annoy me) Long battery life. It has not been turned off since we got it a year ago, and it is still going strong with the same set of batteries Can be used with younger kids as a walker, or with older kids as a ride-on toy, so it grows with your kid The book pages are very thick and sturdy Multiple modes so your kid doesn't get bored with the same songs/activities Durable enough to withstand a crazy toddler who likes to crash into things The block bin at the back has open sides, which allows multiple kids to reach in at the same time and grab blocks to send through the chute at the top. This means no fighting! Really cute! Cons: I honestly can't think of any cons. We absolutely love this toy. It is our most used/favorite baby item we've purchased so far.

Best toy for toddlers!
My daughter received this train as a Christmas gift when she was 9 months. It was instantly her favorite toy. She is now almost 3 years old and still plays with it everyday. When she was small, she would just look the blocks, throw them in the slot, or press the buttons on the train to make it sing. As she grew, she learned to flip the pages and put the letters in the right slots to hear the animals and descriptions associated with each letter. I rarely write reviews. But this toy was so special to her. It's definitely the most crucial toy that introduced her to the alphabet very early on. She learned her alphabet before even colors and numbers. Thank you, VTech!
