I've had a number of laptop locks over the years that loosely connect to the laptop. It seems to me it wouldn't take much for someone to snap the lock off since there is so much give. Add to that trying to keep the lock cable nicely coiled in your computer bag. This one is great because it locks close to the laptop and you can make it as short as you want to - the excess cable rolls back inside the case. Realistically if someone wants you laptop bad enough none of these locks will keep them from stealing it. It just keeps the honest people honest. This lock is just a great innovation on something we've been using for years

I like that it's so small I can carry it in my bag without a lot of bulk, plus since the cord winds up it makes it so convenient. No it's not super strong, you could cut through the cable, but I don't think this is made for total protection. This is made more for leaving it on a table in public while you step away to get a coffee.

After using this lock for two and a half weeks, I have finally figured out how to retract it fully and easily. I'm mostly writing this review to let others know too. The problem is that the retraction depends on some oomph in the mechanism (I don't know the exact terminology). So If you try to retract it slowly while guiding it so it doesn't flip around wildly, it won't go all the way back in. If you just let it flip around wildly, someone is likely to get hurt, because the lock head is heavy duty (RIP my right middle knuckle). What you need to do is hold the lock head right by the spot it goes into, and then press the button. This allows it to retract fully without flipping wildly. A few other notes: - This little guy is strong. It looks dinky, but it holds on tight. I have been using mine on my daily commute, which usually means using it to chain my suitcase to the mostly-empty luggage compartment at the bottom of a charter bus. When I get off the bus, it's clear that the suitcase has been jerked around, but the lock is holding on strong. (I've figured out a way to keep the suitcase from moving around so much so it won't continue to strain the lock, but I am impressed that the lock has done its job.) - This guy is a time saver. When studying in public places like libraries, all I have to do is pop my laptop back into my suitcase and use this lock to chain it to something when I need to go to the restroom. I don't have to pack everything up and drag it with me, and I don't have to worry about my spot being taken when I return. - The only real tricky thing is figuring out how to lock and unlock the mechanism. Once you get the hang of it, however, it goes really smoothly. First, you put the key in and twist while also pressing down. This gets the X shape of the key to align into a I shape. Then you put it in the lock, twist, and twist again to remove the key. All in all, I'd highly recommend it, especially with the Kensington SecureTrek Laptop Roller, which is the suitcase I use it with. (I'm not as enthusiastic about the suitcase, and this is not a review for it, but it is one of the few of its kind - lockable, commutable, small but holds a lot - that I have found.)

This product has never failed. I just ordered more of them for all the new hires to use when traveling. Loss of keys are less due to the easy-to-see bright yellow key.

good product, fast delivery!

I carry this along with my laptop when I go to public places and use it to quickly lock it to the chair. It saves you having to constantly look back when ordering another coffee or asking a stranger to watch it as you go to the toilet. Yes, the cable is thin but this is not a lock to protect from home burglars and professional thieves, rather to prevent opportunistic would-be thieves and anyone else who doesn't walk around with bolt cutters or strong pliers.

It's nice not to have a loose or rolled up cable in my bag. The cable is pretty thin, but it retracts and loops around things for security well. It takes up much less space than the one I was carrying and I don't have to fight with it to get it rolled up and strapped together. There is a button on the side, to release and retract the cable. It's built well, and I've used it numerous times without any issues or looking like a goofball unwinding a massive laptop lock at a borrowed desk. Just push the button, pull out the cable, loop around something, through the hole in the lock base and then lock to a laptop or something with a slot using the key. The only thing I would caution, is that if your laptop or device has a deep lock slot, (i.e. you've used the locks that come with spacers and those fit tight without any spacers at all), this lock might be a really tight fit. If your device normally has a little bit of play when locked, this should be just fine. I've used it on a Macbook, Dell Latitude and HP elitebook without any issues. And it weighs less than my mouse (logitech anywhere mx), so you wouldn't be carrying a lot more weight with it in your bag or suitcase. It feels pretty close to the weight of an iPhone 5.

My laptop hasn't been stolen yet (and it would appear someone tried twice)!

Works the way I expect it! Excellent!
