As an aging landscaper and maintenance gardener, this is going to save my butt this season. We have a lot of thistle, cress, horse nettle and other clumpy kind of weeds where I work. This just plucks them out of the ground. Root and all. Well constructed from quality materials. It was a joy to open the box for a change and see something made in the USA. Bamboo handle with the instructions for use burned right on it incase you have a senior moment. Way to go!

Let's go pull weeds. This is the best little weed puller that I have found. I used the one from Fiskers but it broke. I bought this one and it works Fantastic. It doesn't leave a large divot. My only complaint is that the weed can sometimes be difficult to get out of the puller. I just keep a large screwdriver in my left hand and use it to push the weed out.

Heavy duty, seems like will last a long time and best of all it works. I tried it for the first time today, 3 days after rain followed by 2 days in low 90's and slight drizzle overnight in high clay soil. I removed a smallish dandelion with a double root easily but found in bed with thin mulch layer that didn't go deep enough to get root (my fault, next time will clear away the mulch). Not sure what the third weed was but tried it and pulled it up with the root. Does remove about 1+ inch diameter plug of dirt or grass or mulch with dirt but not a big deal. All three remained in the tool so just lifted up and plucked the weed out. Saw some people got version with bamboo handle. This one has a hardwood handle, very sturdy. Had my doubts but was money well spent, I'm a weed-o-phobe so still pulling clover, etc. by hand and straining my bad back but learning to do a little at a time. I had my grampas tool with me today and did make it easier for me to stand back up as I used it kind of like a cane or walking stick for leverage help pull myself up.

We do not use chemicals on our lawn for a variance of reasons. We recently found an all natural company that uses all natural products (I am talking iron and chicken poop, not just throwing the word “organic” on there). He said we will always have weeds, but that weeds do not like the iron and the grass doesn’t mind it. They overseed while doing iron treatments. He said if we regularly pull the weeds, we will get a healthy lawn. My back can’t take regular weeding but he told me products like *this* exist. Thank HEAVENS! This took a few weeds to master and I have already had a couple friends say they never mastered this tool... keep trying! At first I thought, “Are you kidding?! This is horrible! It’s pulling up grass and dirt!” I promise you, these problems are the problems of the weeder, NOT the tool! Different weeds have different techniques (we have enough for me to have figured this out). Huge dandelions: you HaVE to find the center or it does nothing. It must go straight down over the center, make sure the tool stays open and then you must pull slowly in the direction of the pedal/lever. If you do this, it works exactly like the video. Thistles (those tall prickly horrifying weeds you can’t touch): go in towards the side on a steep angle brushing the tool up against the weed and somewhat pushing the weed to the side to get into the middle (root) and clamping and pulling the same way. I have (had!) plenty of weeds for practice. After seeing some personal fails and way more successes, I promise it is the user if this tool fails. The hardest part is finding the center of a dandelion when you have a huge patch, but it is vital in the removal. Even a little bit off, you’ll just be pulling leaves. My yard is starting to look like a suburban haven again and I don’t have to worry about the social pressures of a perfect yard this year!!!

Absolutely love this weeder! With critters and grandkids running around, we keep everything organic and really prefer manual removal of weeds when possible. The downside to this has been thistles and sand burrs. Thistles were almost impossible to pull out by the root, the tender new leaves just tearing, leaving the root intact. And the thistle barbs always seem to find a way through gloves! After strained ligaments from hoeing over an entire weekend in the pastures, I found this here on Amazon. I've only used it a few weeks but have pulled hundreds of weeds and it feels sturdy and tough. Best of all, it pulls out the roots like nothing I've ever seen - some of these soft leafed varieties have roots 3' long! I've attached pictures - see is believing. I'm looking forward to stopping all the sand burrs in their tracks as well once they start growing as it has easily pulled out the early weeds that grow very similarly. I've used this for hours without back strain or sore arms. The simple but ingenious design makes pulling and bending unnecessary. Loved this so much, I told all the neighbors about it!

I received my Grampa's weeder today, and I was immediately impressed with the strong yet simple design. The metal foot and claw are heavy and solid, and there are no plastic parts to break. I thought I would try it out and pull just a few weeds before dinner- my front lawn needs a lot of help but I don't use chemicals. So an hour goes by in a flash, and I had uprooted several hundred weeds and I only stopped because it was getting dark! It was actually fun and so easy to just pop them out using the lever action. I have both dandelions and false dandelions - the later are a bit tricky because the roots are woodier and more brittle than dandelion roots, so they break off easily at ground level if you try to weed by hand. This tool got the whole thing out, and made very short work of the dandelions, taking out the whole tap root even from my heavy, compacted lawn. All I had to do was aim right and it did the work for me. I didn't even have gloves on and I didn't break a sweat. I chose the Grampa's Weeder because it had the longest handle, 45 inches, among other things, so I can truly stand completely upright while I work, which saves my bad back and knees. Some of the other brands are just a little too short. The handle was smooth and comfortable although I would recommend wearing gloves for removing the weeds from the claw by hand, which you will need to do - but again, no stooping over, just flip the claw up and take it out, no problem. One thing I noticed was that it does remove quite a large plug of soil., but mine is heavy clay still wet from the spring rains, so when it dries out and gets warmer the soil will be nice and crumbly, and will easily fall away from the claw. This will be a go-to tool for me from now on, and I can't wait to get started on the rest of my yard. This might be my best purchase of the year so far!

This is possibly the best single-use Weeder on the market. At least on dandelions it works perfectly taking the entire root out at once! It is very easy to use. Just stab into the top of the plant and put your foot on the foot rest and move the handle to the right. Out comes the plant roots and all. It's really nice as you get both your exercise, zen like meditation, and you do no harm to the environment. Construction is robust and it should last to hand down too your grandchildren if need be.

It is almost 9:45pm and my husband has a headlamp on to continue using this spectacular tool into the dark! Ordered Sunday, arrived Tuesday afternoon. The bamboo handle is smooth and silky, the metal is simple and sturdy. Directions are printed on the handle. Grandpa's Weeder is superior to one we bought at Lowe's a few nights ago bc Grandpa's Weeder leaves a nominal divet and is easier to use bc it does not require that the whole tool to be twisted after it sinks into the ground around the weed. Also, the one we bought at Lowe's has a center screw at the top (between where hands sit) that stripped out after pulling 4 weeds. (My husband said he would fix it, but it is disappointing.) The holes made by the one from Lowe's will require soil to fill them. The divets created by this are nearly the size of aeration holes! TLDR: easier to use and more durable than other style, sturdy, effective, smaller divets

We had an old Grampa's Weeder in my garage for 10+ years. I'm not sure where it originally came from, but it was handy and never failed. My brother used to borrow it regularly. Finally we just decided to let him keep it. I bought a Fiskers weeder, which had sharper points and blades at the bottom. It sucked. It would cut the weed at the root, whereas my old trusty Grampa's Weeder pulled the whole root out of the ground. I searched and eventually found them here on Amazon. I purchased it three years ago and it is still wonderful. My only criticism is that the handle was a little rougher than my old one. That being said, the old one was... old. The years of use had smoothed out the wood. A little sandpaper solved that problem, though. I still recommend using gardening gloves with it.

Oh my god, I friggin' love this tool. I bought this on a whim given my husband and I bought our first house and know nothing about caring for a yard and boy has it come in handy. Our new house had a ton of weeds in the front yard and this tool helped me get most of them out in no time. In fact, the process of yanking out the weed was strangely satisfying! I don't think anyone can say that weeding is fun but this tool made it as close to fun as you can get, especially when you see a long root along with the weed you pulled. As I perused reviews of this tool prior to buying, I noticed that some reviewers commented on the quality of the tool itself being poor. I was concerned about this, especially when the box arrived super mangled at my house. Surprisingly, the item inside was just fine. In fact, it's pretty well made. The handle is wood and the bottom part that yanks out the weed is a strong metal that is literally screwed into the wood stick. I can't see someone destroying this thing that easily. That said, this is probably not great for weeds nestled among concrete pavers. We have some of those and it looks like those might need to be fished out with a smaller tool or chemically treated. But for everything else, this tool works great! I'm so thrilled that I can spend less time on this and also avoid using corrosive chemicals in most areas.
