Buy One or Two Sizes Larger!!
OK, I got to admit a little bit of Amazon user error on this one! I ordered the wrong size and I see that the sizing chart is right there in the pictures but it is not as obvious as the tag they put on the actual overall, which I uploaded here. Given the size and visibility of the tag on the overall, this sizing error must happen quite a bit so I would recommend to the seller to not bury the lede in a sizing chart that...again, my fault, maybe not everyone reads as they rush to order some pants! No points deducted for my error but coupled with Amazon "how does it fit" saying "as expected", my internet-induced poor reading comprehension would have benefited from this huge and obvious tag more upfront in the product listing.

Do Your Homework
First of all, I bought this on Amazon simply the because the price was much lower than buying at the large outfitter store near me. Because that store is so close, I was able to try these on to make sure I got the correct size. Which brings me to the size. Decide how you're going to use these. Most Carhartt outer wear is larger than most of us are used to because it's designed as OUTER wear. In other words, if you normally wear an XL, the XL in these bibs will be big enough that you can probably wear long johns AND a pair of pants underneath. If you're going to be working in them, you can probably go a size smaller; you'll still have room for long john's. NOTE that this does not necessarily apply to length. I got the same length as I wear in jeans and they fit perfectly. As for warmth. I wore these while clearing my driveway earlier this winter. It was pretty cold out, single digit or low teens, and I was using a snow blower (no more shoveling for me, thank you very much!). I wore these with thermal britches and NEVER felt the cold. If I'd been exerting myself I'd have gone with regular scivvie britches. My main reason for buying these is protection, as in, from thorns. My hunting buddies always swear they are giving me the "easy" route, but I still end up going through briers that even Bre'r Rabbit would avoid. I normally come out bloody from waist to shin (good boots and a Carhartt Jacket take care of the rest). Not so with these overalls. The duck material is extremely protective, and I suffered nary a scratch. These Carhartt products are quite water resistant but not completely waterproof. They will keep you dry for quite a while even when it's raining, but eventually water will get through. It just takes a while. However, I have never had snow melt through, and to be honest, I don't care to stand out in the rain all that long regardless what I'm wearing! One last word on warmth. I wear my jacket even when it's only cool out (50s-60s). I leave it unzipped and I don't get too warm. I know some people do; it just isn't too much for me. These overalls, on the other hand, would definitely be too much if it's not necessary to wear them. Like most Carhartt duck outer ware, they are fairly stiff and bulky, so they are great for working, not so much as casual wear. I have no hesitation recommending these, and when (if!) it becomes necessary to replace them I will certainly get another pair. EDIT: It's now 6 years later, and these overalls are still going strong. Absolutely a quality product!

Over 6' tall and found perfect fit.
After trying this same product on at tractor supply in a size that I thought would fit I ordered a pair on Amazon. I am 6'7" about 250 pounds. My jeans are a 36" x36". I ordered the R41 in Brown in a 42" x 36" and they are perfect. I wear a hooded sweatshirt under and a toolbelt and it's perfect for me. I have no idea how a 36" x 36" jean equals a 42" waist but it does. Maybe since you have other clothes under. I probably could of gotten by with a 34" length. Don't mess around stick with Carhart they will never let you down.

Very warm and comfortable. I wear 34x32 jeans and am about 6' ...
Wow, how have I gone so long without a pair of these. Very warm and comfortable. I wear 34x32 jeans and am about 6' and 195 lbs, based on other comments I went with the 36x32, and it was right on the money. Everything about the product is A+ except the pieces that attach the bibs. It seems rather cheap and likely to bend. Will that be a problem? Only time will tell

Durability and Value
Carhartt are the only brand of denim/jeans I buy now. They fit and they do not fall apart or lose belt loops like the others that I used to trust for so many years....even after years of washing. All of their products are spot on-double & triple stitched. Many sizes. I live in far NE Vermont-as far NE as you can get! These overalls, (& coveralls) are the best. Warm all day outside or snowmobiling. In fact, if I’m working hard, I go with unlined as they are so warm. The zipper makes it easy too. If you plan on wearing clothes underneath, you may want a size larger. I’m a 44 and they are just slightly loose with undergarments.

I'm worried if these shrink much I'll look like I'm ready for the flood but better this way ...
You know you can trust Carhartt products and these are no exception. I bought 2" shorter than my jean inseam and 4" larger than my waist. I probably could have stayed with my regular jean length. I'm worried if these shrink much I'll look like I'm ready for the flood but better this way than dragging the backs and tearing them up. One neat feature on these that my last old pair didn't have - there's a patch of water-resistant type material on the back of the bottom of the pant leg. Maybe they figured out too many guys were soaking them and ending up miserable.

Order two, even three sizes bigger on waist and one size less for inseam.
I am 6' even 215 lbs. I wear a 36x32 all day any brand. First ordered a 38x30, length is perfect but the waist was tight, would be ok if wearing a t-shirt but these are over clothes for me. I sent back and re-ordered the 42x30, again length is perfect and can wear a hoodie now underneath top part. Only wear long John's or super thin sweat pants under these, super warm, if you wear Jean's under these it will be too much heat. Remember waist is around your belly at your belly button not on your hips. Only gave these five stars because I couldn't go any higher, I work for R.R. outside day and night doing lunges, squatting, and walking around for atleast eight hours sometimes twelve hours.

Carhartt bibs - strong and honest
Built to stand up to tough environments and last a long time while doing so! My waist is ~36 and I'm 6'1", but due to vanity sizing all of my pants are 32x34. So I 'sized up' to 34x34 with the hopes of being able to wear the bibs over pants. They are a bit too snug. If I could do it again I'd go up 2 sizes so they are roomy enough with pants underneath. Nothing against Carhartt here, because they're the most honest sizing I've found. I rated them as 'somewhat small' only because of the expectation that all other clothing companies have set based on their false sizes.

Very nice (but order bigger)
The first pair I ordered a 34x30 I wear a 32x32 the reviews I read everyone seemed to say order shorter but I like it a touch longer so it covers my boots a little. With the 34 waist it was tight as well with just a thin shirt on. I returned and ended up getting a 36x32 which is 2 sizes bigger on the waist I normally get in jeans and they fit just perfect and if my belly gets a little happier in the future I can just leave the side buttons undone and it will be fine. These are very warm I bought them because I am a cable/satellite & fiber optic installer for a telco company and work outside allot and these will also be easy to take off if I'm in a customers house for an extended amount of time. :)

Big, but not THAT big!
I had done a lot of reviewing of reports on these bibs. Most suggested 2 sizes larger. So when it came time to purchase a set for my son who is now off loading UPS jets at 2 in the morning, I did just that. He normally wears 32X32 so I ordered 36X32 and they were HUGE. Returned them easily and quickly and ordered 34X32 and they fit perfectly over his work jeans and sweatshirt. Excellent product and great price. My recommendation is if you can go somewhere that stocks them, try them on first then order them thru Amazon!
