" Easy to clean - a quick wash with soapy water ...
Everything I'd hope for in a candy/deep fry thermometer. Appears to be accurate, though I've not yet used with candy making. I have used for deep frying. This candy thermometer holds to your pot with a clip that can slide up or down the length of the thermometer to adjust depending on the depth of your pan. The bottom also features a metal "guard" that prevents the glass of the thermometer itself from making contact with the hot pan. The thermometer appears to move quickly with the rising temperature of the liquid in which it's submerged, so I haven't noticed any "lag time." Easy to clean - a quick wash with soapy water and a dish sponge does the trick! I believe this is not intended to go in the dishwasher, and I have not attempted. Note - this thermometer is large - at least 12" long - so it may be too large if intended to only ever be used in tiny pots or 1 c. batches of caramel.

Totally Badass!
Throw away your old round plastic thermometer; you know, the one that keeps rolling off the edge of the pan into your syrup or hot oil, and you have to fish it out with tongs and throw away because it melted ? Yeah, that one. Throw it away right this minute and buy this Polder thermometer. It clips to the damn side of the pan!! And, it's stainless steel, so if you are seriously clumsy and it does fall in the fat, you can fish it out a lot easier with that large handle to aim for. I bought two. Seriously, a no brainer.

Accurate, safe, and easy to use
Finally, an accurate, immersible thermometer I can't break that is large enough to read, works with an inch of liquid, and stays put. In the real world buying something that does what is expected should be average. Having wasted time, money, and messed up cooking with others, I now realize that merely doing what is expected deserves five stars. I should also mention that some similar models have pretty sharp edges.

So much more stable!!
Wow! At first I thought MAN that's a big thermometer! But I I'm using it for the first time to make hard candy for Christmas! I am loving how stable it sits in the pan! I don't have to worry about it falling in like the older version. I also appreciate the larger thermometer numbers very easy to read! First time using it so far so good! Plan on ordering a second and throwing out my old school thermometer.

A excellent and durable product! Love it!
This is AWESOME!! it is adjustable so the end doesn't touch the bottom of the pan..making reading the temp way more accurate. It's very big..and definitely durable! A great product!

Just right
I got a 2 gallon stainless steel pot from walmart for 8 bucks, and with this thermometer I have a stove top deep fryer that meets my needs. yes the numbers will wear off eventually. I use my fryer a couple times a week, and I get about 3 months of readable numbers, which is fine because I can keep using it. You get used to seeing where the mercury level is, which for deep frying just needs to be less than 400 and more than 350. I prefer closer to 400 unless I'm doing coconut shrimp or chicken, the oil cools down too far when I put the food in if I start at 350. It's no fuss and cheap enough that I just replace it when I want, and since I'm not doing candy, accuracy is not critical.

This thermometer is working well for me. I recommend it.
I have 2 deep fat fryers. One has a preset temperature, just the one temperature, but it's nice to know that this temperature is in fact appropriate for most applicaitons. The other fryer has multiple settings and it's important to know the temperature achieved at a given setting. This thermometer is just the right size to stand in either of my fryers, so it convenient to use. Plus, it's got the right scale (90°F to 400°F - 30°C to 200°C) for deep fat frying. This thermometer is working well for me. I recommend it.

Has a Handy Clip!
Got this one for canning, but I've expanded to using it for pasteurizing egg whites for buttercream as well. The thermometer has a sliding clip on the back so you just stick it on the pot, slide it to the height you want and you're good to go. The thermometer bulb is suspended a couple mm from the bottom of the metal plate, so you can push it against the bottom of the pan and not worry about blowing the bulb with direct heat. It also has handy markings which tick off the various candy states if that's what you want it for. Cleaning is a breeze since I just toss it in the dishwasher.

Bought the same version when me old one went out, dependable and consistent on temps
I actually just threw out my old thermometer that was the same version that i had for YEARS because it was giving me problems, but it lasted so long and i got so many uses out of it that i just re bought it again. It works great, the only thing id say is dont throw the whole thermometer fully submerged in water or the dishwasher, I think thats where i went wrong. if you have stuck on candy/caramel on it just clip it to the side of a pot and boil with some vinegar and water, itll get most of it off and wipe the rest down.

Well Built, Accurate and Durable
This is my third candy/fry thermometer, and the first non-digital I have purchased. This thing is built like a tank, is incredibly accurate, and easy to clean and is my go to thermometer for candymaking and frying.
