I bought the stand holder first to see if the brace was necessary ....it was , the brace really makes everything rigid very strong . I suggest buying both at the same time you won't regret it

I use 2 of these as extra support for my laptop mount in my Ranger pickup for storm chasing. Because of where I have the laptop positioned over the center console these allow you to remove all sway from the setup and give a strong, solid, vibration free mount.
