Best veterinary probiotic supplement out there
I think just about everyone should speak to their vets about probiotic supplements for their pets. It's fairly well-accepted that probiotics are beneficial for those animals with digestive issues, but there's even speculation as to whether they can provide benefits to healthy animals. I know I've seen a few cat foods that include probiotic strains in the food itself, but most don't (and even for those that do, I'm pretty skeptical of how well the bacteria hold up to all the processing cat foods go through), so if your vet recommends probiotic therapy, you'll need to find a supplement like this one. I entered the probiotic world when my cat was diagnosed with some sort of nebulous autoimmune thing that targets, among other things, his digestive tract. Diarrhea...constipation...vomiting...regurgitating...stomatitis...allergy symptoms...anorexia...he's had them all. Treating it has been a nightmare, but probiotics were one of the vet's first suggestions, filed under the heading "unlikely to hurt even if they don't help." Believe me, it's a straw I was happy to grasp. A lot of probiotics designed for pets come with flavorings and proteins designed to make them more palatable. I'd started my cat on those Purina packets, and I have to say, the flavorings work; he loved them. Problem is, if you're undergoing an elimination diet or if you're limiting antigenic proteins -- which many of the people searching out pet probiotics are -- the supplements aren't in compliance with the diet. Seems to me those Purina ones have beef protein in them, for instance. It took some doing, but by aggravating vets far and wide, I was finally able to find a supplement that's completely free of protein: this one. (And I called the company to verify.) So right there, that's an enormous benefit. Another one is that this contains seven bacterial strains, when most veterinary probiotic supplements only have one. It looks expensive at first, but compared to the others on the market, it's not bad. In short, Proviable is a great choice for a probiotic supplement. (I hate to harp, but I'm going to do it anyway: don't take my word for it...or anyone else's on the internet, for that matter. Never give your pet any kind of supplement without running it by a vet first. One thing I've discovered over a lifetime of pet ownership is that a lot of the common knowledge out there is wrong.) The capsules are easy to open and the powder inside has no flavor -- I tasted some to be sure -- so even those pets who won't let you add meds to their food should be able to ignore this. I'm sure most people add it to canned food so as to dissolve the powder, but my cat's intake of canned food is hit or miss -- as much as I wish it were otherwise, since canned food is nearly always superior to dry -- so I sprinkle it on his kibbles. He gets one capsule daily. A couple notes: 1. High temperatures kill probiotics. At minimum, think long and hard about whether you want to order a supplement like this from the web in the summer months; the truck that brings them will not be refrigerated. You might run the risk of expiration issues, but my strategy is to get a few boxes in April. A local source might be another option (though keep in mind that you can't guarantee that the shipping/storage prior to your buying the stuff won't do the bacteria in). 2. The supplement is protein-free, as I said. The capsules, however, are not. If you're limiting proteins, you'll definitely want to open the capsules and administer only the powder. (Since the capsule's contents are tasteless, I'd recommend doing that regardless; it's way less traumatic than giving them a pill.) This got long, but the TL;DR version is that probiotics are a great thing, and of the veterinary probiotics on the market, these are a superior choice.

Dramatically helped firm stools after Giardia medication did a number on my puppy's intestines
I have a 6 month old Sheepadoodle (1/2 sheep dog 1/2 standard poodle). We got her around 3 months. After a month she had loose stools (right around xmas). When we got her to the vet it was determined to be the evil GIARDIA! We had her on meds for a week (Flagyl 7 days, and panacur for 5 days) After we were finished her bowels were still super loose. The vet didn't recommend probiotics but I am on a "doodle"group online. Everyone told me what I knew "in my gut"-after antibiotics always use a probiotic. They said this one was one of the best. I got it in 2 days. Started her right away. Within less than a week her bowels were formed- perfect! I couldn't believe it! Prior to getting it the vet had given us a pill with clay in it to solidify her poop-nothing worked. They were practically water! She had been on the chicken-rice-pumpkin-yogurt diet for weeks. No change. Finally I ordered this despite my vet telling me to wait it out. I was stunned -I saw changes within a few days- but it was mostly in the am after I gave her the capsule. But now things are looking good! We are rechecking for Giardia in a few months (NOTE I am NOT saying it cured giardia, that was what the meds were for. But her intestines were very angry after having loose stools for 3 weeks total and the 2 medications. This made a huge difference). The doodle site sent me an email that the company has come out with a stronger product-Proviable Forte. I couldn't find it on amazon, but it is on the Proviable web site. It is a stronger vs of the capsules and comes with a tube of meds for 2 days to firm up stools asap. I am going to try it with my cats bc they tend to puke (one has IBS and with the stress of the puppy he vomits every few days). If it helps with my kitties (as other's here have written)I'll let everyone know.

Effective Probiotic (but beware Amazon's shipping practices during warmer months)
This is a very effective probiotic that has really helped rid my dog of occasional bowel upsets. She hasn't experienced upset bowels since the vet put her on a once daily regimen. The capsules are easy to pull apart so that the powder can be sprinkled on food. Amazon's price is great--my vet charges twice as much for the same box of capsules. That said, I would suggest not purchasing this from Amazon during the spring and summer months. According to the Proviable packaging, the capsules are not to be exposed to temperatures higher than 77 degrees. Amazon treats all shipments equally and does not insulate or mark packages containing perishable items. The USPS delivered my first shipment to an unshaded metal package locker, where it sat for several hours, cooking and killing the live bacteria. After I contacted Amazon and explained what had happened, they apologized and promptly sent a replacement. However, for reasons unknown, the replacement was shipped the exact same way the original had been shipped: in an uninsulated, unmarked box, via USPS, who once again delivered it to the same unshaded metal package locker, where it sat for several hours. I thought it pointless to ask Amazon for a second replacement, expecting a repeat of the two prior shipping mistakes. Bottom line: Great supplement, convenient and easy to handle, but unless you live where temperatures normally don't register above the mid 70s during the warmer months, buy it locally, or stock up for the year from Amazon during the cooler months.

Improved the health of my cats
There are so many products out in the market to choose from. My vet broke it down as to what I needed for a probiotic to be effective for my cat who has renal failure. Well, this was it. So, many don't even come close. I have five cats and three are on this supplement. Blood work showed significant improvements with the cats that were on it. My cat who is in renal failure has astounded my vet. There was also an article I read where it talked about a study and the effects of probiotics with cats who have renal failure. My other cat is off most of their medicine except for one and the probiotic. My cats blood work results have not just stayed the same, but have improved since using it. So, this has worked for my cats and their conditions. But, I did this under the advisement and approval of my vet. I wouldn't give my cats anything without talking to my vet. My cats have been on these probiotics for almost 4 years. UPDATE: My vet just did a senior profile on two of my cats...one who has irritable bowl syndrome, pancreatitis, etc. and has been on this supplement for over 4 years now, my vet said, "the bloodwork is fantastic". My second cat who is in renal failure, is 20 years old and is on Azyodl and Probiotics, his bloodwork came back and my vet said, "I was expecting so much much worse as with the age of the cat and being in renal failure, but his bloodwork is really good, not bad at all, I am shocked." For both my cats my vet told me to keep doing what I am doing as it is working.

Happy kitties and very happy litter box scooping human
These pills are life changing for my old cats. My male cat hit 12 years old and started having loose stools and explosive diarrhea (sorry to be graphic). I figured he had a flu, but after a few days I started wondering what was going on. I took him to the vet and did a full blood work. The vet said there was nothing majorly wrong, slightly off on thyroid readings and slightly off on kidney levels, but nothing significant, he was just getting older. I was seriously getting overwhelmed with cleaning a disgusting litter box multiple times a day and then chasing my cat around to wipe the diarrhea off his butt. We even had to shave off his long hair on his rump to try and keep him clean. Poor guy. The vet recommended this probiotic, just sprinkle on top of his wet food once in the AM and within 2 days no more diarrhea. I also have another cat that deals with constipation, so I decided to sprinkle some on his food too and that has improved a lot also. I have a younger cat that I just sprinkle a few drops on hers just for good measure. It can't hurt. 1 capsule goes a long way. I was debating on trying a generic probiotic from the drug store for humans, but I read that this has been tested for animals to make sure the right probiotics survived to make it to the intestines. I don't know, but this one has worked so wonderfully I didn't even want to take a chance on another one not working.

Works great! Much less expensive than the Vets office for the same product!
I read the reviews on this Proviable DC probiotic capsules for dogs and cats. I purchased it as my dog who had cancer was having diarrhea for some reason. Not much helped. Usually a tablespoon of pumpkin works to firm up the stools for a dog with diarrhea, but it wasn't working now. I talked to a vet tech who suggested this and I bought some. Gave it to my dog and within a couple of days I noticed the diarrhea was slowing down and the stools were firming up again. My poor dog didn't survive much more than the month that I was giving this, but I am glad I got it for him. It is dosed one capsule daily. I pulled the capsules apart and sprinkled on his food and he didn't even notices the taste at all. It worked. That was the most important thing. And it was considerably less pricey than buying the same thing in the veterinarian office! If you wonder if this is a good product - YES IT IS! I can say with absolute confidence. I am a nutritionist and I deal predominantly with humans but work some with animals and this is a good product and I would recommend to anyone wanting to keep their fur babies healthy and happy. If m review of this product helped you I would appreciate the feedback by noting on the 'Yes' button to the right below. If you have questions post them as I am always prompt to reply and help any way I can.

SMELLY CAT...SMELL-E-CAT...What have they been feeding you....
***UPDATE 2/3/2017*** So, we've been using this product for several months now. I am on my third order. The good news is this product keeps my smelly cat's stool from smelling so bad. The downside is that it is not a one-time fix :-( Unfortunately, discontinuing the use of the product causes the cat's foul stool odor to return. We will continue to use it but we're probably going to have to investigate alternative diets and food in the hopes of helping this cat smell better. I do realize that poop is supposed to smell bad. But this cats poop is out of the ordinary foul smelling. Our vet doesn't want to try antibiotics at this point because they believe it will likely do more harm than good. So we'll have to see if we can find a suitable diet that helps. *********************** We are less than a week into using this product so I will have to come back with a long-term update at a later time. But I'll explain why we purchased this product and what we are seeing now. Over the last year, our two old house cats that have been with us for the past 18 years have finally died. They lived long and happy lives. My wife and I decided to get a new kitty and we wanted a pure breed. Locally in AZ there aren't a whole lot of options for pure breeds and we were not about to pay hundreds of dollars to ship an animal from another location, but we did find one intriguing breed here - the Bengal cat. So we decided that, even those these cats are very high energy and aggressive, that we would get a kitten and see how it goes. The cat is great if not little psychotic (she bites you when she wants you to play with her and wiggling toes & feet under bed-covers sends her into a primal tiger rage!). The one downside - this cat had the SMELLIEST GAS AND STOOLING EVER!!! OMG, this cat would reek-out the entire house (and I have a big home) anytime she used the litter box to the point where I would have to put the box outside after I would catch her using it. I have never had a cat with smelly flatulence before, but any time this cat let out some gas....HOLY COW, go get some clothes pins on your nose!!! There are college fraternity bathrooms that smelled more clean and fresh than this cat!! It was truly gross. My wife and I were quit perplexed and tried many different combinations of cat food (we use only wet food) from different vendors. Nothing changed the odor. So we asked our veterinarian about it and she suggested that probiotics might work if the cat has inadvertently gotten some bad gut flora. Apparently, the probiotics provide the appropriate balance of "good" gut flora that can wipe out some of the other, smellier types of bacteria. She did not have any suggested brands and only anecdotal evidence from other patients but she told us to go take a look. So I did some research and the Proviable-DC brand got good reviews all around the internet as far as I could tell from reputable sites (sorry, Reddit, you don't count!). Well, I ordered the product and started using it as directed this past week. As of writing this comment (so about 7 days in), the cat no longer smells. Her flatulence is undetectable at this point and the liter box has been inside all day since and only has the typical cat box smell (I change out the pan liners every 4-6 days). Hopefully the long term results will be good.

Miracle product!
I read the reviews and so many commented about the success of this product for their animals with digestive problems, specifically IBD which my cat had just been diagnosed with, so I wanted to give it a try. My 15-year old cat was just put on tons of medication and it was exhausting trying to get her to eat. She was constantly vomiting and she looked like she was going downhill fast. I purchased this product and she is now a completely different cat. Her fur looks better. Her personality is better. She's gained weight. I believe that I owe it all to this product! AND she is very picky. I'd been crushing her medication and putting it into food and she'd turn her nose up at it if not sufficiently disguised. She actually seems to like this in her food. I highly recommend this for any pet with digestive problems! Update: Two months later I'm now on the second box. Prior to taking this medication, my cat was vomiting 1-5 times a day. In the last few months, I think she has only vomited twice...in total! She's a different cat and taking no other medication. I just open the capsule over her wet food. I found out that my younger cat thinks that the empty gel caps are treats so I give them to her. :) If I could increase the stars, I would.

Cat IBD solved
Don't hestitate to buy this if your cat is throwing up and/or diarrhea or constipation. It's works amazing! Rupert my 15 1/2 year old cat has been battling IBD for months on end, Many trips to the vet, changing his food always to some Hills special diet That the Vets recommend. He was regurgitating his food with massive amounts of liquid 3 to 4 times a week. Diarrhea or constipation never seem to have a normal stool. We had blood tests done and x Rays all normal. When we tried the Hills DD diet (duck) he started itching the vet said fleas even though Rupert is an in door cat. I suggested Probiotics but they turned their noses up saying he won't like the taste, their is no taste with Proviable. After many vet vists and dry pilling for diarrhea which did not work and diet changes I researched extensively and read all the reviews for Proviable it took me 4 days to read every review. I changed his food to Natures Variety Instinct Rabbit Formula, he is very finicky but he loves this food can only no dry food from my research dry is no good even the best dry food. I purchased Proviable and the miracle I had been praying for Happen :) NO THROWING up now for 34 days stool is normal his weight is going up he had lost 2 lbs needless to say I'm looking for new Vet. Please note Rupert's IBD is not cured but I solved a lot of the symptoms assicated with IBD with Proviable. I open up the capsule and mix into his food sometimes I let him play with the empty capsule it dissolves. It took about a week to work but I saw improvement by day 3 he threw up a whole lot less. ETA: update: June 2018 Rupert is still going strong on Proviable he is 17.5 years old now, he does not throw up at all. Bowel movements are perfect. I stock up before the summer heat then reorder in October when it's cooler.

Immediate Relief!
I have a Senior kitty who has had problems, throwing up her food and with regularity. Most recently she became listless and un social, wanting to sleep all day, she is also very skinny, but that has been happening over the past two years. I suspect her age to be about 18, but because she was adopted, who really knows, she was not a kitten when I got her. Anyhow, my first bit of advice is no matter what, get your pet checked out by your Vet, let them run blood tests, etc. My kitties red cell count was very low, at 11%, she was anemic and needed a blood transfusion. I know all of this sounds extreme, it was. Had I not acted, she may not have made it. It has also been very expensive, but she responded very well. Now my goal is to keep her in the best health that I can, this is where this product comes in. It is very simple to split a capsule and sprinkle it in her food everyday, she doesn't even know it's there, and eats it right up with her food. The theory behind the probiotic is to correct the bacteria in her gut that is preventing her from nutrient absorbsion. Will it bring her back to a normal weight? Probably not, again there is probably a deeper reason for the weight loss. However, she is already not throwing up her food and is regular. This is only after a week. Her appetite is really good she is perky and her old self again. This is very comforting. I plan to continue her on this along with vitamin supplements in her food. I want her golden years to be as comfortable and healthy as possible. There is nothing about this that can hurt your pet, so if you want to order it to prevent problems down the road, it is probably a good plan for your pet. Thank You for this excellent product!
